    Gerd, I grew up in an electronic factory in farmland Norway. It was about 1966 to 1978 with a 4-5 employees -- my father and my mother the first -- and ME haha (The company is still going now with 1000+ employees). The transistor (with significant contribution from Japan) was the latest kid in town and we embraced it. Even if innovation is an Americas force, it does not mean that many countries in Europe also are catching up...
    Also check out how that no modern computer chips (anno 2024) could not be produced without Zeiss/Germany and ASML a Dutch company!...
    European companies are still relevant -- until the time that they are not creative any more...

    Funny, Germans never refer to themself as Germans, but as Europeans. Norwegians are also European, but we never refer to ourselves as Europeans. What's going on here? Does the Germans somehow feel inferior to their fellow European nationals? Like the French or the Swedes? The French are proud to call themselves French, and you will never find a Swede calling him- or herself other than a Swede. I live in Norway and I have never heard a Norwegian or a Swede ever refer to themselves as European. That would be like very weird...
