Thank you for your sharing @GerdLeonhard. I moslty agree with your vision except the so called "climate change". Climate is also very related to cosmos cycles; we could no longer be here as species and climate will still change on Earth. In other words, we will not "control" or eradicate climate change no matter what. Besides, the so called "fossil" fuel, we depend and will keep depending of it for many years to come. (to create materials that entirely come out from them)

Never the less there's simply no drought, that the human produced climate change exists and creates a temperature spike in a speed we just can't adapt to fast enough.
About fossile fuel Dependance I agree. But very few understand how fast this base is eroding. The energy return on investment allready has plunged from 100:1 to 20:1 global for oil. Because of the low hanging fruits.
The only production growth in the last 15 years came from USA oil racking which now is expected to peak in the next 5 years.
And after this energy will become a bumpy downhill rude, because it's the master Ressource for everything

    • @cujo1050

So your take is that humanities carbon foot print has zero effect on the natural process of climate change inherent to the earth itself. Therefore, there is no need to pursue alternative forms of energy to supply the world's energy needs. Put any and all R&D funds into finding and extracting more fossil fuels to supply the world's energy needs.

There are some things I categorically disagree with in regard to ai and reason, as well as ethics and morals. Everything a human does is based upon the knowledge systems, frameworks and environments in which the absorb data frame it based upon experience and then produce output. The only distinctipn at this point is humans can do all this in a more nuanced and multi faceted way. We werent talking about AI en masse 3 years ago and look where it is now. Imagine the exponential growth curve and then say it isnt really intelligent in an equivelant format to a human.

@@GerdLeonhardthat's not the point. Organisms are data analysing structures as well. They operate on a different hardware, are still more advanced, but have a comparable purpose, which is surviving. And this means their world models have to be correct to the point their survival is guaranteed.
That's not the case for ai at the moment. But they allready get selected out, while in this case not directly but indirect from humans. There's no reason that at a point they could be as wise as humans. No counciousness needed.
The danger rather is that you get an intraspecific selection for unuseful aims.
The evolution for them, selection from humans could lead to ideotic ais as well, and not to increasing world understanding

    Well.
A guy, talking extremely confident about many subjects, he only studied very superficial, in a way, people may beleave it.
I love scientists, because they have to be precise and their ideas have to be peer reviewed. This all is just predicting from the color of your coffee..
His distinction about human and machine intelligence exactly is where experts are devided.
Studies have shown, that the advanced ai, s for some tasks, go beyond simple statistics and have to integrate, still very simple, but world models, that can only be described as unconscious understanding.
So in the long run his destination simply could be wrong.
Furtheremore his blind beleave in technology to solve our unsustainibility problems. Is rather a religion.
Did he ever hear from rebound effects?
Ai is the one tool that is the first, that not extends our bodey for the purpose of short term aims, but extends our ability to invent in the term of short term aims, ignoring never the less long term consequences we eve don't know, and in the service of company interests, multipolar political aims and with no wisdom at all what we should not do.
Its an armed race, and it's not solving the big issues, but accelerating our race to wealth and power while ignoring all longterm known and unknown consequences.
The world is based on öcological and physical restrictions.
I could argue hours, how this gets ignored or confused by his talk, but no chance in youtube to explain it so one could realy understand it.
The whole socioeconomic system with Al it's power and complex behavior remains a fully dependent subsystem of the ecospere and growth and only can grow by displacing the ecospere it is dependent on.
So as long as it remains smal, it's no problem. But it allready starts to debilitate it's host system, which ai only is accelerating

@jasonmurphy1499 I am not of your opinion. He might be a generalist, regarding technical trends. But like so many he seems to oversee the whole biophysical baseman these technologies are dependent on.
We are telling us stories of progress and technical achievements, our genius has given us acces to.
But this realy is only half of what has enabled us to come so far.
The whole industrialization should rather be caled the Fossile full revolution, because that's realy what it is for 50000 years we where as genius as we are now. So what has changed.?
Of course Fossile fuels, that pushed away all natural negative feedbacks, that held us in check, so our species, the first time could show its full potential in exponential growth. (which by the way every species has when circumstances alow for it).
Each one of us has in average 100fold more energy available as 200 years ago. When beforehand 80% of population was needed to harvest energy.. Eg. Food, now Fossile energy allows us to feed our self with 2% of the population.
Each calorie you eat, has been made possible by investing 10 calories of fossil energy.
Which on it self will get devasting when fossil energy peaks and no replacement is there.
Moreover all our technical gimmicks an robots and ai wonders are the tip of a complexity pyramid, depending totaly on vast steady inputs of materials and energy even to maintain their structure. And only in such times of enormous energy input, gigantic economies of scale are possible.
Energy input is what makes selfkrganisig complex structures possible, as well true for biological complexity as for economies.
Take out the energy, and the system reorganize, often by collapse to reorganise on a simpler an less energy dependend structure.
This is what a real generalist would understand.
But I am not sure he has any clue of the underpinning system, his thechnophantasies are a subsystem of ond totaly dependent

Decent talk and well done for covering so much, but lot's of questionable statements presented as facts.
    - If you ask an AI what to vote or who to marry you will not get a concrete answer. At least not from any of the ones you should take half seriously.
    - It is not at all clear that the human brain operates very different from a computer. We do not have many thoughts at once, we process them one at a time. Multitasking is a mirage. I personally do think there are quantum phenomena involved, and perhaps more, but still.
    - Who are the superintelligent people who started all the wars? As far as I know higher inteligence is linked to more peaceful views and actions, not the opposite (there will always be exceptions, of course).

In Norway most people take voluntary web tests/quizes before elections to check which parties and political leaders align the most with your views. You can take the result as a good advice or ignore it.

AI matchmaking offers access to another partnership that several communities have identified as twin flame mates. I'm not trying to be Anti Gerd. I like him and his video. BUT
    Gerd says:
How does a machine think: ones and zeros.
Humans think multilateral like maybe today... Maybe next week .....it might be too hard etcetera... multilateral.
    Technology is Exploding exponentially.
Gerd says we can't ask AI philosophical questions .
I beg to differ: AI responded thus:
To summarize, a key philosophical question to ask oneself when seeking a healthy relationship with a female partne is: "How can I foster understanding, empathy, and open communication while respecting individual differences and needs?" This question highlights the importance of a strong foundation based on mutual respect, understanding, and clear communication in building a successful partnership.
So i asked: Fostering understanding, empathy, and open communication while respecting individual differences and needs in a relationship can be achieved through the following practices:
    1. **Active listening**: Pay attention to your partner's thoughts, feelings, and perspectives, and respond with empathy and understanding.
    2. **Open-mindedness**: Be receptive to your partner's ideas and viewpoints, even if they differ from your own. Avoid being dismissive or judgmental.
    3. **Emotional intelligence**: Develop the ability to recognize, understand, and manage your own emotions and those of your partner. This helps build a strong emotional connection.
    4. **Effective communication**: Practice clear and respectful communication, expressing your thoughts and feelings while also considering your partner's perspective. Avoid blaming, criticism, or defensiveness.
    5. **Acceptance**: Embrace the unique qualities, needs, and differences of your partner, demonstrating respect and appreciation for who they are as an individual.
    6. **Conflict resolution**: Address disagreements and challenges in a constructive manner, focusing on finding solutions that meet both partners' needs.
By prioritizing these practices, you can create an environment of understanding, empathy, and open communication that nurtures a healthy and strong relationship.
Looks like AI is there already. Bedside manner and lateral thinking I'm not seeing 1's & 0's in the answer, even though they are the building blocks.

He says things that sound like they might be true, and feel true to a lot of people, but upon examination, are based on false categories, false distinctions. He is actually a bit of a Luddite in that regard. Technology is, of course, a tool. It is literally *how* humans do things. Ways and means. It goes back to our prehuman ancestors who kept making the same stone knives in the same way for thousands of years. Throughout much of our history technology changed very little. Over the past couple of centuries, however, humans have realized something: the technology we have is nowhere near what we could have, what the laws of physics allow, and what we can find a path toward developing. Further, as many people in Silicon Valley realize, all *material* problems are essentially technological problems. We don't know what kind of world is possible, how much better all of our lives could be, and what we're missing for lack of technologies that haven't yet been conceived. Some of us reasonably suspect that we should push forward, that there may be something of great value just over the horizon if we continue to reach for it.
Of course, we need the humanities because they help us find better solutions when it comes to issues of human *behavior* (e.g., morality and ethics, incentive structures, ways of relating to each other, etc.). We need the humanities as a complement to technological solutions, because they enable us to utilize technology in ways that are less destructive and more sustainable.
As to artificial intelligence -- it *is* intelligence. As to what it does, it *thinks*, or at least some forms of it do what can arguably be described as thinking and reasoning. No, it's not the same kind of intelligence that humans have. No, it doesn't think in exactly the same ways that humans do. It may not even be conscious in the sense that humans are. But look at the outputs it generates, the solutions it comes up with. We can't say these are less creative or less real merely because its process of arriving at these outputs is different from ours -- that *we* do real thinking, but it doesn't. Some talk about honoring the dignity of people on the autistic spectrum, respecting the differences in how they think -- honoring neurodiversity. We should also respect the dignity of the different kinds of intelligence that are instantiated in our machines -- large language models, diffusion models, etc... These other kinds of intelligence, though different from what we find in the human brain, are still worthy of respect, and still have value.
We need to get away from fear and hatred of Silicon Valley tech bros. They have something good to teach us about how to approach problems, how to approach the quest for knowledge, and how to approach technology, if we are willing and able to pick up on what that is. No, they aren't necessarily heroes or saviors, but they aren't necessarily villains either. They offer something of value, and not just in a monetary sense.

I believe we'll get there some day.
And thank you for your reply.

Didn’t watch further than 12 min. Mostly don’t agree with anything he said up to that point. I think he is not as up to date on current and upcoming technology as he himself thinks he is and is greatly underestimating AI capabilities towards the future. Please tell me if I’m wrong or missed the point.

Yeah, if we join EU, I'll leave my country which has bright sunshine and live in cloudy, foggy, rainy, cold England(!)... So nonsense arguments. I think the opposite will be true... Even some retired English people live in Turkiye now... I don't understand how these so well educated English people buy this... And Turkish people are not monsters, they are just people... Turkish people will come to learn more science, for no other reasons.
