Awesome this makes the years of hard work on the catamaran worth it! Loved the fishing seeing your smiles! Also you guys look like a seasoned crew now.
Clearly Colban knows what he is talking about - the proof is in the number and variety of fish you caught on your crossing. A very useful and informative video for any sailors who are struggling to catch anything. Will be interesting to learn what you change when you get into different waters. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks Paul, yes he has many years of fishing behind him and is very knowledgeable- we are all dying to get out in the ocean again to do some more fishing. Will let you know how it goes.
Hi Jaco -hope you and the family are all well. Glad you enjoyed the video. The fishing was great along our trip, we really enjoyed it and had as much fish as we could eat which was awesome. Thanks for always watching and commenting, and to Wendy for sharing it too.🐟
My ocean fishing advice for you guys: Get a container you can seal, fill it up with fresh engine or mechanic oil and put all your hooks, swivles, hard plastic baits with metal parts submerged into it, when you are not fishing. All corrosion will be paused, as long it is in the oil. When you are hardcore ocean fishing like you guys, you need to take care of your gear like no one else.
Im glad someone asked about the use of wire because i forgot to mention it... When it comes to wire its a bit of a double edged sword. Sometimes even wire deters fish! However it would be good practice to add a short bite trace to all Xraps and other lipped lures! Especially if your doing a few thousand miles of trolling because as much i wish there was there are no mid atlantic fishing stores to stop by at and replace lost lures rather be safe then sorry.
Really enjoyed this educational video, thanks Colban. I want to learn to fish, would love to see a cooking video on how you prepped and cooked the fish after catching. Well done Karen, what a catch! Can you not clean the hooks and spray with WD40 to prevent rusting to reuse? I'm curious. Also would love the recommendations you made in the video for equipment to be posted in description. X
Thank you so much 😃 we were discussing a catch and cook video for the future 🥘 We also thought that WD40 would help with the rust but Colben told us that there are lots of mixed reports about using anything like that on lures because the fish can either smell or taste it in the water and it can be a deterrent for the fish. We will update our description with a few more details on our set up 🙏🏼🎣
@@SailingSaoirse22 that's a big yes please from me, a catch and cook video would be great 👍 Thats interesting, I did wonder if the smell would deter! Might be worth an experiment! Hope you're all well. X
I tend to stay away from spraying lubricants on hooks, i feel that it deters fish i dont even use wd40 on my reels unless i have too....for permanent offshore use i pack all my reels with marine grease and service and inspect often. Another thing is never spray lubricants on your braid or mono...again it deters the fish.
@@paulapurser In hindsight WD40 is still a must have on a boat and can be used just about everywhere I also use it on the guides of our fishing rods to keep corrosion away. A small squirt on each guide every so often does the trick for me!
Shame Dave dont be so hard on yourself! Anyone can fish, but in order to catch fish you must have a line in the water... best you can do is watch a few offshore fishing tutorials on YT and stay tuned there will definitly be more videos like this including a few catch and cook tutorials🤟
It was not Tuna chasing that Wahoo Karen was reeling in..........it was the Wahoo babies trying to save their mother !!!!! My heart is shattered for those little lost Wahoo souls.
Hi John, it is a 38’ Island Spirit Catamaran. We rebuilt her over the past 3 years and it’s all documented on our channel if you’d be interested to see the journey. Otherwise this is the link to the finished product 😀 ua-cam.com/video/8ZdWObXvZ2E/v-deo.html
@@johngarbarzyk5549 thanks - good luck on your refit! It’s a real labour of love but the hard work is so worth it in the end! Will you be videoing your progress, it’s so nice having a ‘journey’ at the end of it.

Wow that's some good fish you caught ,even though the sail drive helped lol
Thanks Louis 😂😃
Nicely done! Pays to be well stocked up and prepared to lose some gear I guess. Thanks.
Thank you 😁🐟 we are well stocked with lures but definitely need to find some extra fishing line incase we are spooled in the future 🎣
