If a key characteristic of a psychopath is their lack of responsibility and empathy, why would they even bother to intervene in this situation in the first place?
Come on, guys. Psychopathy means no empathy, not no self-interest. Psychopaths are opportunistic too. Saving those 5 people will probably lead to rewards (gifts, social status, etc). I would imagine that's reason enough for any psychopath.
Just because a psychopath does what others may perceive as the correct answer doesn’t mean they have empathy. Think of it as a reflex. I am a nurse. Even when I am not at work I am still a nurse. If there is someone who needs my skills then I will help. I do this because that is my training. It has nothing to do with what is the right or caring. It’s just a reflex.
Plus, how do u know they will even land on the tracks. If the fall is high enough to kill the fat dude, he could easily not hit the target. If u snapped their neck first then u cud maybe aim better but there’s too many unpredictable elements here.
The risk of failing is high, this could end up giving the person legal backlash. There’s way too many risk for a logical person, even a psychopath, to get involved
If someone is fat enough to stop a train, they're too fat for me to push off a bridge and is probably too heavy to be on a typical bridge to begin with.

This is entirely wrong and completely stupid. EDIT: I wrote this comment as an arrogant kid and left no explanation. Here's my reasoning, 3 years later: If a non-psychopath chooses to push the man they will feel awful afterwards. However, that doesn't mean you cannot push the man without being a psychopath. Some people may believe it to be the objectively right thing to do, an may still choose to act in this way, regardless of how sad and guilty they'd feel after committing the act. In my opinion, once you are a part of the situation, it is your responsibility to act for the greater good. You cannot expect to be able to suddenly opt out of the situation and take no blame for the outcome. It is up to you to make the right choice as YOU have the power to do so. Hiding from responsibility when you think you should be acting for the greater good doesn't make you definitely NOT a psychopath, it makes you indecisive. Acting doesn't automatically make you a psychopath (although a psychopath is still probably still more likely to act), it means you are doing what you believe to be the right choice. What IS the right choice is another debate, and if you make what you truly think is the right choice then that's all you can do. In my opinion, of course. You can push the man without being a psychopath, and to say otherwise is extreme tunnel vision.
Well it's not completely wrong, because psychopaths lack empathy, but the test just doesn't really factor that some poeple would rather 1 dude to die rather than 5.
well the first scenario is you're FORCED to choose, but the second scenario isnt. on the first one, YOU chose how many lives you'd save, while on the second one, you didn't save the 5 heroically, but instead you "heroically" murdered the big guy. even with the most justice spirit, one would not just willingly push the big guy to save the other 5, since the sense of justice actually came from the heart rather than brain-- though uses logic to get the justice through-- and obviously someone with a heart, won't sacrafice anyone when they're not being forced to. what this video meant is literally just that. it's just about psycopath got less to no empathy. not that everyone who got less empathy is a psycopath-- they even said 'maybe'. so no, it's not entirely wrong and stupid.
Based on multiple studies; it's not entirely true, but its at least 80% percent accurate. In the scenario one, there's no choice if you want to kill 5 people or one, but in the scenario two, it changes. *Why?* Good question. The big guy does not technically have to be in your family to be personal, if that's what you think, by the way. In the first scenario, you are involved and you will kill either one or two; you don't decide if you kill or not, you just decide how many. But in the second scenario, you can save the people by killing a human, or not doing it knowing that you were not involved and it was not your fault. If you think it is not your fault, that will give you the confidence it is; you were *not* involved. But in the case you throw them against the train, you murdered a guy! In scenario one you did two, but you didn't have the choice to not murder them without it being your fault. You just had to murder. However in scenario two, you can be sad that they died and you could've murdered to help it (which you'd get over quickly), or murder a guy in order to be involved and feel "good" about yourself, but you won't, really. I hope I made myself clear and not difficult to undestand. I wrote it in multiple lines so you could understand it with different words.
It's not about pleasure, It's about solving a problem without emotion. None of the outcomes would make a psychopath "happy" It's just that without emotion you would be willing to do things others wouldn't.
Yeah exactly but it seems like you'd be saving more people. Wish there was another way in this situation. I think if I knew the people personally it would make it so much harder
Notice that the test also shows that the psychopath would have saved four people. This fact should not be lightly dismissed. The psychopath would have served a socially useful purpose in survival terms, though most of us find it repugnant and would not bring ourselves to push the guy off the bridge. The psychopath would have been a useful guy in an evolutionary context, and there is a reason why they are born as a predictable ratio. Also there are seemingly plenty of psychopaths working in universities and as surgeons etc who reportedly do a great job. They are potentially dangerous but then aren’t we all? Stupidity is extremely widespread and dangerous in the hands of criminally minded political system and media.
You can state it simply as you cannot push someone innocent,it's not his fault that he's here at wrong place on wrong time so you can't really that's murder....
Psychopaths have a different view on the situation. They are still people that are trying to do good for the world they just don’t understand that what they are doing is wrong. They care about the 5 people because the human brain is obligated to do so unless given a reason otherwise.

If you say Yes to push the man over the bridge then it might be true you're a psychopath, simplest way of thinking is that: you won't ever want to comit a murder in a real life even to safe another 5 people because your brain just keep saying don't push the guy. A normal person won't ever push anyone down to the bridge because they're to scared to do such thing, if you push that guy in that situation, you may not have "scare" of "death / blood" which leads in psychopath behaviour
If there big enough to stop a train 1. There ain't no way in HELL your moving them an inch 2. If there fat enough to stop a train, they ain't gonna live much longer
i know, i even wouldn't get in my mind to push him as how would I think that he could stop a train, this "simple test" could be better described as "stupid test"
It's illogical No mass of a person can make the difference to stop the train in the second example. You're just condemning another person to certain death because some announcer said that it would help. If you have the power to do something in your life to save someone, then go for it. If you can't find a solution to deal with a problem, leave it be as it is. There is no reason for you to take the blame for changing track or condemning a person to death. It is what it is, deal with it, don't bother with consequences. The only mischievous person is the announcer voice... Don't kill people, put the blame on them.
He might be a psychopath if he did it emotionlessly and without any hesitation. But doing it while knowing that you are saving 5 lives and that they would ALL DIE if you didn’t while feeling it difficult to do emotionally, then you are probably not a psychopath.
I said no to both scenarios. I would leave things as they are, because even if more people die, I can't actively choose to kill one person. Maybe that makes me extra psychopath
Many people wh9 believe this test isn’t true either truly do or are trying to convince there self that if they pushed the guy over they would actually feel bad.
well, shit. edit: just kidding i would never do that, but i wouldnt like to see 5 people getting killed right in front of me either. i would probably find another solution.
I’m not a Psychopath I just feel little to no emotions plus it’s hard for me to have sympathy for things I don’t care about as long as I benefit from it that’s all that matters to me
Well I think I can push that heavier guy over without being a psychopath, because even if the problem is personal or whatever, it doesn't have to affect the decision. It may be hard to do so, but I'm saving 5 people nevertheless. Maybe more accurate way to do this test would have been repeating the first question, but changing the 1 person you have to run over with a loved one or a family member. That would have been personal I think.
Pushing him would technically be less people dead but i wouldn't do it since his death would be on me and if go to other that simply watching 5 people die. So yeah, I would rather watch 5 people die than to commit murder myself.

My wife pass this test as a psychopath and it is obviously not one, she is working to save other people lives, it is kind and good with people, is is sensitive and always care for others. Anyway, I made the same test, at first I was thinking I would not push the fat man over the bridge, so I am not a psychopath. After some strange things that happen with my mind in the past few months I decided to make more tests similar with this one, tests that show who you are or if you are a psychopath. I suspected one of my collaborator to be psychopath so I found more things about this condition. Many of those things about psychopathy sound familiar with my behavior and, surprise, I am passing those tests with over 30 points now which qualify me as a psychopath. I always felt that something is wrong with me, I had problems since my childhood, I've been involved in many fights, I was punished, I killed animals, I stole, I lied, I took drugs and I don't have regrets for what I've done ... etc. Some of those problems continued in my adult life, like fights, drugs, many relationships with girs ... etc. I have a normal life now but in my mind is always a war between good and bad, even if I know that something is bad, if I feel to do that I go with the wind, I am fearless and I take risks but in the same time I analyse everything and I try to stay out of troubles, if troubles happen I am trying to find a way to get out clean. Sometimes I fill I want to destroy the entire World and sometimes I am a peaceful and a very nice person, that is how everybody know me. I have success in my career, I am independent, I have a beautiful wife and a quiet life. I still have moments of depression, hate, love, jealousy, passion, anger, Wrrraaaaaaaaaahhhh! I don't know what it is. What I know is that when that anger explodes in me I am capable of anything and I can put the ones near me in danger. Let's get back at the train test. If there would be a chance to save five people and kill one instead I would definitely save the 5 people. But you know what, this problem has no logic, I could not save 5 people pushing a fat man in the front of a high speed train, it would smash all of them and I would be judged for murder, if the police catch me :)). Anyway, it would be a hard decision to take and if I would be there I would definitely evaluate all of the possible circumstances with the speed of light. That is what I wanted to share. If there are more people like me out there please share your experience with me, I am curious to find more about this. Thank you!
I would not sweat it. I also scored high on the Hares checklist and several doctors gave me the ASPD stamp after being my honest self. Still having depression. You see. Having A bad day is sometimes enough to get a stamp.
I would push the guy but also look around before i did if anyone could catch me and also I don’t like grotesque fat people so really its a win overall.
I think I thought more logically in not pushing the big man because if I push him I would save those 5 but still legally I'll not be a life saver but a murderer and I don't want to be a murderer. Now during letting those 5 people die, I would never feel a pinch of emotions that's for sure. So what this really makes me??
Well, the guys heavy so you have to let him lean in the bridge first, you know approach a "friendly" conversation before the train appears, so he'll lean when you lean, then lie about going to the bathroom or getting something and let him stay there. Then sneak on his back and with full force push him while his leaning easy as pie. I wouldn't say that I'm a psychopath, let's just say it's like a puzzle/problem.
Me who wanted to to not push the guy so I can watch him suffer while looking at the 5 people dying and waiting for another train to come by so I can push him off this time. I don't think I'm a psychopath but I'm definitely a murderous person.

“I’m not a psychopath. I’m a sociopath. There’s a difference. You see a psychopath is insane, he can’t distinguish between wrong and right. A sociopath knows the difference, he just doesn’t have a conscience. Ya know? So he doesn’t care” - Pretender 2001
A psychopath would evaluate the rewards and consequences of their options; but the reality is that the average psychopath wouldnt help anyone unless they were directly in danger as well
When I first seen this dilema, I honestly thought that psycho would let the train kill 5 people and then redirect next train to that one on other trail. So basically, psychopats save more lifes than fake moralists
What’s if, I think killing one person makes me look like a hero, and now I have 5 people who owe me their lives? It seems like a vital tool to get things…
I disagree with the logic behind this test, even though I think the statistics might show a strong correlation between the answers and the diagnosis. Here’s my simple take on it. In the first case, no matter what you chose, it will be your direct responsibility since you’re controlling the train. So you choose less victims. In the second case, on the other hands, you have a chance to escape the responsibility by being a bystander, and by not taking the action. Nothing emotional about ‘that guy’ as the video says, even though you can be emotional about ‘yourself’, the guilt - or in my terms, the fear of punishment by majority. I strongly believe that empathy doesn’t play a big factor in this test, no matter who you are. It’s always about yourself not getting punished and left over by others. The basic instinct of all primates. I believe the psychopaths tend to fail to deeply understand the link between their action and the causes in social situations, even though they know how to act on surface through their unharmed logic. (No comprehension, no fear, detached. So they have less pressure executing superficial social behaviors.) When it is combined with temper, tendency to chase the adrenaline, I think it mainly causes those purposeless violent crimes. I believe all kinds of people have a capacity to be cruel. Most people chose not to be cruel because they are lazy in their mind, not challenging their fears against majority, not thinking through the true color of implicit social rules.
Ive been diagnosed with anti social disorder or what so you call it psychopathy. I dont really care about how people view psychopaths. But heres one thing. We are good people, sure we dont have regions that we cant cover or feel. But know this, we are just as normal as you people. God created us all equal. For my life, I feel constantly lazy. Yes, i worry to, like for example. I stole a chocolate bar at the store. I get a bit worried that i might get caught for a moment. Another one is i habitually lie and I lied all my life, I have an innocent face so people mostly think im a saint and im not good at academics so I usually talk people into it to do what I dont wanna do. I use my charisma do to get what I want. As for my hidden desires and skills. Im mostly sexually driven and I use it as a motivation, I can quickly see an individuals weakpoints and trauma just by staring at them for a few seconds. I sometiems do abuse when I was a child. But just animals. Theres this one cat Which I find so cute that I wanna drown it so bad or stomp on it. The other one was I painted it with paint. Because i hated its color. I dont feel remourse but rather dissapointment because it did not meet my expectations. I sometimes get so bored that I feel like the world is not good enough for me and I wish to have powers where I could create my own world. Time skip. After a few years I discovered I am a psychopath. No wonder why my avoid me all the time when we were younger. So now i tried to cage myself as much as possible and commit to the sins i did before and become a better person. I attend to religious church to wash away my sins every week, but if I have free time, I go there on my own to confess all the things I did wrong and ask guidance. See? We are not all that bad. We just need a good starting point. Because this video does not justify us psychopaths to be cold hearted and evil. So I would like to choose to save all of them. Because at first glance why would there be people tied down at the railroads? I would rather untie all of them with a pocket knife I always bring before they get run over.
If a key characteristic of a psychopath is their lack of responsibility and empathy, why would they even bother to intervene in this situation in the first place?

I wouldn’t do anything. If I did, I would be late. Those people shouldn’t have been on the train tracks.
It's not the person who pushed the large human a psycho, it's the person who tied the 5 people on the tracks
It's illogical
No mass of a person can make the difference to stop the train in the second example.
Both average person and phychopath knows what is good or bad. Phychopath just don't have emotion
I was worried I am actually a psychopath
Same
You think a person can be that stupid and push a person from a bridge without thinking about consequences? I think this thing won't work.
I said no to both scenarios. I would leave things as they are, because even if more people die, I can't actively choose to kill one person.
Maybe that makes me extra psychopath
I agree with you, maybe we are psychopaths or maybe we just value life in general in that we can’t actively be a part of ending someone else’s.
Many people wh9 believe this test isn’t true either truly do or are trying to convince there self that if they pushed the guy over they would actually feel bad.
I'm officially a psychopath
@fbi
But those 5 people are there willingly so I wouldn't interfere....let them do what they want
The issue with this test is that you have to think about social consequences. I think “which one will make me look better”
I don't care about how i'd look.
Saving people's lives is better, than image.
People are free to think whatever they want.
@@Jonas_Albertoh so tough guy go to jail physo murder
Personally I would not get involved in either scenario as I don’t wanna get involved
well, shit.
edit: just kidding i would never do that, but i wouldnt like to see 5 people getting killed right in front of me either. i would probably find another solution.
Same
A flaw in that theory is that ....Nah I'd rather not go to jail for killing a guy with 5 witnesses 😂
I’m not a Psychopath I just feel little to no emotions plus it’s hard for me to have sympathy for things I don’t care about as long as I benefit from it that’s all that matters to me
sociopath momen 💀
Same.
I tried to push the big guy, he retaliate, now 6 peoples dead.
When your friend feels something do you feel it? When you hurt someone, do you feel sorry? Those are the only questions you need
Exactly
“I feel badly Only if the consequences are bad for me.” -psychopath
me, i'd just run away and avoid the choices.
My brain said, let the train run over them. Then push the guy. So they all die.
Wanting Saving more people more people doesn’t make you a psychopath but it does
Wow 😎
No good deed goes unpunished. If you do nothing, you' ll make no mistakes. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
Thank god I'm not a psychopath, I would choose to solve the overpopulation.
I thought you were Justin Y. 😂 rip
Pushing him would technically be less people dead but i wouldn't do it since his death would be on me and if go to other that simply watching 5 people die. So yeah, I would rather watch 5 people die than to commit murder myself.
Vsauce really did this exercise and it was pretty messed up
Having to be in any of these situations would be personal and a dilemma.
12 edgy year olds would comment "I guess i am..hehe :3"
i chose not to push the fat just because it will be killed by me
but the 5 will be accidentally killed
not by me
now explain my psychology
Why did it have to be a black guy???
Jay Coleman honestly
Jay Coleman What’s wrong with that? Nobody would care if it was a white guy. It literally doesn’t matter stop acting like it does.
*WARNING.* This comment section contains:
*People claiming they are psychopaths.
*People talking about why the black guy in the vid is the psychopath.
*People comaplaning about the edge and the complaints about the black guy.
Bring a bag of popcorn if you wish to proceed.
Music to my ears when somebody is screaming to death
I would just pretend to blackout 😂 i cant deal with such complex choices
That person isn’t fat enough to stop a train. They have to be a size a feminist to stop it though.
The argument is critically flawed. Non involvement bears no threat of prison.
Yes, if I throw the guy I'll get involved so I could later be sued by his family so, I won't do anything
@@shinchannohara5621 you could be charged with murder. better off doing nothing. grab some Faux King pop corn
Honestly I wouldn’t care it’s not my problem. And for the second one it’s easy just throw the man there’s no remorse in doing it
In what world is a far person stopping a train 😂
I stand there and watch with my new friend Tony. We bonded over the trauma.
Im not going to prison so toodles to the people on the track
Oh thank goodness, im not a physcopath
best option : stop the train
So basically just do nothing and your fine
so what if i just walk away from the situation because i dont care?
That doesnt make you cool for saying that and i bet you'd be scared in that situatuon
its their fault for not getting out of the way lolololo
Why push the guy if you can just let the 5 people die?
You aren't a psycho then, you're just a mentally ill narcissist. A test also doesn't diagnose you with ASPD, a psychologist does.
I would push the guy but also look around before i did if anyone could catch me and also I don’t like grotesque fat people so really its a win overall.
"I would definitely evaluate all of the possible circumstances with the speed of light." calm down speedy gonzalez
I'm just going to ignore everything n do nothing
No I wouldn't push him that would make me a killer and destroy my life let the people die I guess
I must be a phycopath cuz I'm saving 5 ppl and getting ride of a fat lazy person so to me it's a win win
I think I thought more logically in not pushing the big man because if I push him I would save those 5 but still legally I'll not be a life saver but a murderer and I don't want to be a murderer. Now during letting those 5 people die, I would never feel a pinch of emotions that's for sure. So what this really makes me??
I just let whatever happen.. I light my cigarettes and see how things roll.. Make cofee and enjoy the Lil things
The correct answer is obviously don’t interfere
Well at least i saved 5 people...
Abe yaar to ye movies webseries interview itne dekhliye khud ko psychopath smjhne lag gya 😂
Ek chiz ke liye help lena chahunga iam 18 now and jb bhi koi ladki dekhta hu to adhiktar ladkiyo ka face figure dekhta is it uncommon thing ? Pls tell me
If the train has that switch then it also has an off switch
I said no to both because what was happening isn't your fault. Interfering with a scenario like that would only be dragging yourself into it.
I just took another UA-cam quiz of psychopath and they didn't even tell what my score meant and now I am considered a psychopath from this video
“I’m not a psychopath. I’m a sociopath. There’s a difference. You see a psychopath is insane, he can’t distinguish between wrong and right. A sociopath knows the difference, he just doesn’t have a conscience. Ya know? So he doesn’t care” - Pretender 2001
That's like the opposite of a phychopath they know good and bad jut they don't have emotions
A psychopath would evaluate the rewards and consequences of their options; but the reality is that the average psychopath wouldnt help anyone unless they were directly in danger as well
It's the Trolley Problem. It makes more sense when we learn about dual process theory in moral psychology.
Tokyo drift and get all 6 people.
Defected psychopaths
What if I just don't care?
When I first seen this dilema, I honestly thought that psycho would let the train kill 5 people and then redirect next train to that one on other trail.
So basically, psychopats save more lifes than fake moralists
what if i just stopped the train with my magical telekinesis
Even the person is huge or skinny, pushing that person will not save those 5 people.
That’s unreasonable
I was looking for this comment. Well said.
First things I thought about where:
Is it safe that the train will stop if I do it?
And has it no consequences for me, like conviction for murder?
I would rather untie all of them with a pocket knife I always bring before they get run over.
being a psychopath doesn't mean you're a criminal, it is fine to be a psychopath
