You're only 25?!?! My goodness! I can only imagine how many more thousands of books you will experience throughout your already well-read lifetime! Keep going strong!
Well, I'm sure she was an early reader, so imagine 15 years of constant reading. I would love to check back in in 15 more years of maturity as I am sure her reading will broaden and include more intellectually and stylistically challenging works. This is what I love about reading. No matter how much you read, you can never even scratch the surface of what is out there.
my TBR list just got so much longer! as an east asian girlie i trust your recs so much. i felt the exact same way about Disorientation (didn’t expect to like it so much but it’s prob one of my favorite reads this year)! i also love Pachinko, SOA, and I’m Glad My Mom Died 🫶🏻 time to pick up Babel and Kaikeyi next! also I really appreciate how you give so much spotlight to POC women authors, so glad to have found your channel ❤
I just have to to say that I really appreciate the timestamps in your videos, even if I watch it all the way through it makes it so easy to come back to!
One of the most amazing things about Sabaa Tahir's 'All My Rage' is how openly and unabashedly it celebrates Pakistani culture and identity which is so rare in contemporary English fiction. It's a breath of fresh air to see a more nuanced understanding of a highly misunderstood place. Someone said that this book is a love letter to Pakistan and I completely agree.
I have it on my shelf, but I also have a lot of the books she mentioned so it’d be hard to choose what to read first 😄. I received Babel yesterday.. it’s intimidating. Currently on Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires and I agree with her.. it’s so good!
I absolutely loved Know my Name as well. I definitely agree that everyone should read it. Chanel miller did such a beautiful job with such a heartbreaking book.😢❤
I really love that there's a lot of books in there that I haven't heard of. Perks of being a wallflower was also one of my favourite as a teen and I'm really looking forward to reading Song of Achilles.
Just finished Mexican Gothic and it reminded me of The Hunting of Hill House which I had just read before that. Song of Achilles, Blue Skinned Gods, Know My Name and The Sationary Shop have been recent faves and I can't wait to read I'm Glad My Mom Died.
An Absolutely Remarkable Thing is actually part of a duology! I enjoyed the second one more than the first one actually so I would absolutely go read the sequel :)
Omg haha I've actually read the sequel! I completely forgot about it for this video, partly because I feel like the first one works as a standalone too? That might just be me tho 😂😅
@@thisstoryaintover no it totally does!! The second felt more like a "I'll continue the story for those who care" book and not a true "end of the story" to me, like the first didn't end on a cliffhanger or anything!
I read Jennette’s book & loved it (I also loved Viola David’s memoir/book), I love Yolk so much, I also love The Stationery Shop. Babel is at the top of my list of favorite books that I read this year (the ones I mentioned before I wouldn’t say they’re my favorite but I did enjoyed them).
Ah! Am I missing something?! Is A Very Large Expanse of Sea no longer one of your favorites? I read it because you raved about it and I fell in love with it. I recommend it to everyone who will listen. I get reading taste change lol but I guess just a little surprised it’s not even in the list. I’d love to hear your thoughts, maybe in a video, about books that used to be your faves but aren’t anymore. OH! Or maybe a video of you going back and looking at old videos where you listed your favorites and seeing if they still hold up! And as always, thanks for posting this, I always get the best recs from you!
omg I didn't even process that I didn't include it here! I still really love it and think it's amazing and would definitely still recommend it, but I do think I've slightly grown out of it? I based this list off of books that stuck out on the top of my mind at this moment in time. But that's a GREAT idea for a video that I might just do!
I read 8 of the books. living in Kentucky I knew who the boy in The Blue Skinned Gods was from. loved Pachinko. Her eldest son's story was so sad. I love how everyone sleeps together. The Vanishing Half shows how passing can be heart breaking. my family is what keeps me going. your life might be better but losing your identity and family; is it worth it.
yessssss I think everyone should read Know My Name. it was so eye-opening as to the realities of pursuing a criminal r*pe case. like... I thought I already knew a lot of that, but hearing it firsthand from Chanel Miller was a gut punch. I listened to the audiobook read by Chanel herself and I cannot recommend it more highly. I usually don't call books "required reading" but... I think this one should be "required reading," at least if you want to express an opinion of the criminal justice system, particularly as it pertains to r*pe cases. Jane Eyre and Babel are both on my tbr for November, and I'm so excited to read them. Also I was hoping to read Southern Book Club's Guide this month for my October horror reads but not sure I'm going to get to it. maybe this weekend!
Babel and Kaikeyi are my two favorite books of this year too (just in alternate order) so I'm about to read all of the other books on this list I haven't yet read!
I just read Three Kisses One Midnight by Roshani Chokshi, Evelyn Skye, and Sandhya Menon. It was definitely a cozy fall book and I listened to the whole audiobook in one day!:) Looking forward to reading many of the books in this video too!
Thank you so much for this video, you have amazing recs & energy!! ❤️ also could you make a recommendation video for “cry worthy books”? 😭 I feel like it’s perfect for this time of year!
that yeonmi park one though… after watching some of her interviews, i don’t know what actually happened to her since she has so many different versions of the same stories
ohhhh i didn't know 'the beautiful ones' was a regency fantasy romance! i just finished 'half a soul' by olivia atwater and i've been craving more. also silvia moreno garcia has dipped her toes in every genre and is thriving! love to see that for women of color.
I really want to read DISORIENTATION because I’m a PhD candidate and I feel like it would resonate with me. Have also been meaning to read a bunch of Silvia Moreno Garcia books, especially MEXICAN GOTHIC! I absolutely loved THE HACIENDA, which is comped to MG. Also want to read BABEL. So many fantastic book recs here! Thank you! 💜
I'd say almost 90% of these are five star reads for me personally, but I do think star ratings can get a little confusing depending on whether someone rates based on personal preference or certain "objective" factors!

FINALLY someone talks about All My Rage, I absolutely loved that book and feel like it doesn't get the recognition it deserves

Read it!(SBGTSV) it’s really good 😊. I’m currently like on page 200 and it’s a good time.
Babel and Kaikeyi are my two favorite books of this year too (just in alternate order) so I'm about to read all of the other books on this list I haven't yet read!

Pachinko might be on my top list, too! Definitely one of the best I've read this year.
that yeonmi park one though… after watching some of her interviews, i don’t know what actually happened to her since she has so many different versions of the same stories
Loved seeing your favorites, but these transitions are 😵💫
