  • I sit down with Fully Raw Kristina and Cash to discuss the social phenomenon and rise of cancel culture. Sometimes more accurately described as “call out culture,” it collectively attempts to harm the reputation, social presence, and sometimes even livelihood for violating a particular ideological standard.
At this point in her career, Fully Raw Kristina has been “called-out” more times than one can count. In this episode she shares her personal stories, how she handles the mob rule, where she came from, and where she is today. Cash, her boyfriend, brings insight into many of the specific events Kristina has gone through and his support for her. Together we unpack, dissect and reflect on what cancel culture means for our society, it’s consequences, and how we can move forward.
    This episode covers
    - Kristina and Cash’s relationship story
    - Their life in Hawaii, garden goals and plans
    - Dissecting cancel culture and what encourages social media mob rule
    - Self censorship and the current political environment online
    - The times Kristina has been “called out” throughout her online career
    - The Veg News fiasco
    - social media during the George Floyd protests
    - Self acceptance: It isn’t your job to make everyone like you
    - How you’ll never be criticized by someone who is doing more than you
    - Hate videos/comments vs constructive criticism
    - The watering down of important labels
    - living in an echo chamber: the consequences of labeling everyone who disagrees with you as morally repugnant
    - If ill intent versus being well intentioned changes anything
    - And moreeee.

@@SuiGenerisAbbie I think it’s important to know that each individual person is entitled to their privacy and you can see Kristina visibly standing her ground to cash once when he was talking like she wasn’t there. You can see it’s not perfect. No relationship is. She shares so much of her life publicly and she is aloud to have privacy. Who are you or anyone myself included to demand to know something so delicate? If it was something she wanted to share she would. And maybe she will in time. I have been following Kristina for about five years now and I have to admit her content lately has not felt all that authentic to me. However after having listened to this, it makes sense that a person would become more publicly guarded and self protective as they age and get "canceled" by people who know nothing about them. This podcast format, to me as a long time watcher, felt so pure and honest and reminded me why I do appreciate that she shares any part of herself online at all. I'm going to adjust my expectations going forward and remember to appreciate rather than expect. Much love for this fantastic conversation!

I really enjoyed listening/watching this Podcast. At 65 years old I can confirm it is not a new thing to be cancel cultured it was definitely going on in my youth however where my heart goes out for you all is that it is made so public now I honestly don't know how such tender hearts and minds can cope with the vindictiveness. My Mother always told me to never judge anyone's actions or words until I had walked a mile in their shoes it took me many years to understand what she meant but she was right and I that's how I try and live my life now. The one I taught my own children was 'Bitterness is a poison you drink yourself and wait for the other person to die' I have found this one so true in my life as well. Ellen, Kristina & Cash thank you for the Podcast I wish you all much love, light, joy and happiness in your lives. 😘X

Such a beautiful podcast. Thank you Helen. I have been following Kristina for many years and I remember that she shared about the co-op closing and she going through tough times with people around her. I wanted to reach to her to tell her that her global community is so much bigger than a small group of negative people. Her global community consists of many different kinds of people, vegan and non vegan. I am not vegan but I love her messages and her recipes. Often critics come from people from small tight knits groups close to home, and sometimes understanding and compassion come from unexpected groups of people. So Kristina, best is to reflect and take what happened as part of your journey. You are here today on this podcast with a deep message because of all this. Your loving community is bigger than you imagined. Big love from the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. Xoxo

It pretty much shows how people really feel. In public they always comply but when they know they cannot be caught due to anonymity they can finally release their rage. In some sense it's better though they do this online than in real life. However, it is deeply disturbing that people have so much frustration inside of them. That tells a lot about the fragile state of society that only works because people are scared of doing such things in public. Fear is the easiest tool to govern after all ...

Hi Kristina and Cash. This is a avid follower who cares deeply about your beautiful cause in making food medicine and have a genuine love for people and appreciate just how important you both are in making life worth living by continuing to encourage this epic life style that could change life as we know it. My name is Warnell but my friends call me Nelly. I remember my best friend Barbara who introduced me to one of your youtube videos for the first time about 3 or even 4 years ago. I was going through a tough time trying loose weight and other health issues that made me feel very discouraged about my future. When I saw one of your videos I immediately became obsessed with your lifestyle. So I remember watching video after video for about at least a good 4 hours that day. And I haven't stopped watching since. I have had your app for over 2 years that I follow as many times in a day as possible. I have never felt better about following anyone on social media as I do with you. Sometimes I can loose myself and watch your app or youtube videos for a very lengthy amount of time regularly. lol. I say these things because when I look at you both with the energy and the genuine love you have for this lifestyle and each other I am at peace because I remind myself that not all people are evil and that what you have is what the whole world is poorly lacking in.... Innocence and true love and happiness. Each time I watch any video from you I close my eyes and imagine a better place a world that is brought back to perfection beauty vitality and love. It is truly paradisaic. I image a perfect world with perfect people eating wholesome food that God intended for us to eat in the first place and where no one will harm you. sometimes that's what keeps me going everyday no matter how hard life gets. It gives me peace of mind and always puts me in a better mood. I already know that you are overwhelmed with all the comments and can't possibly read them all or ones you don't want to read. But if you are reading this please know that I consider both of you as close friends I just haven't met yet and you have given me a better outlook on my life and circumstances. Not everyone is out to get you. Some of us rely on you everyday and your encouragement and motivation to better our lives and to give us a natural high through food. You need to know you are loved and appreciated . Thank you for giving me and all of us really something wholesome and wonderful to watch everyday. your follower , warnell.mobley@gmail.com

I've listened to the podcast 2 times. In terms of ppls intentions behind posts not being malicious I can totally get that, at the same I'd ask them to be more realistic about their post the whole world is watching and not everyone is gonna slow down to research your intention, and the fact that some issues go straight over their heads are on first glance very offensive thats just the reality of it. It's a business first and foremost.

Kristina asking him three times to date her and he refuses giving her conditions, situations they have to deal with before dating while being always in contact just not dating? Would not be better to deal with everything with a support of the SO? And Ellen being amazed by this?

Something really resonated with me that Kristina said. Shem said something along the lines of every possible thing that could have been perceived as wrong were used against her and it made me think how common that hat occurs but we fairly seem to collect all of the good or positivity that someone has done/shares. I think a lot of growth could happen and a good impact could be achieved if we all strives to collect the good of people. Of course there are circumstances when the bad of someone’s actions will truly out weight anyway good and they will be deserving of just consequences but as a general rule let’s not collect the 10% bad of 100% of someone’s overall life…There’s still that 90% good! Let’s try to focus on that. Besides like you said just having a different opinion doesn’t even make someone wrong it’s just makes them different.

Listening to this I had a lightbulb moment... Bruno from the new Encanto movie is totally a perfect example of cancel culture! I have a disdain for cancel culture because it removes respecting others from the equation and usually never takes intent into consideration. It’s like the gossip circle gone crazy and affecting others livelihoods. Bruno went into hiding from it and so do many people, sometimes for emotional protection other times for their physical safety. It’s horrible to push people to that point. Instead we should have open dialogue on both sides to help people learn and grow past these things and get the accurate info out there more.

I love this episode!! I’m so glad you had Kristina and Cash on. Kristina is who brought me into this world. And she brought me to you! Way back when you were Mango Island Mama. I was working at a coffee shop where I was alone most of the time and I would put on your videos and dream of better days. I’m still working on manifesting my dreams, I got very off track and stopped caring about things like veganism, kindness, humanity, etc. I became addicted to drugs and the last thing I was worried about was being plant based. Now that I’m sober and getting my life back, hearing you and Kristina converse reminds me of who I was and who I wanted to be. I can’t wait to hear more from you Ellen. And I’m definitely rekindling my love for Kristina now 💕💕💕 The world is a better place with you in it.

Really great conversation. You three are empathic thinkers. I want to state something that I think is very important that you may consider changing your mind about - blocking. Blocking someone is actually showing you don't agree with free speech. It's easy online to just scroll by but we must never stymie someone's free speech even if they are jerks. We can scroll by or "have a go at them". I think it's a good thing that we can say anything we want online as opposed to "real life" because we can truly express ourselves online without fear of being punched in the face or something. Especially for women, online is a huge asset for speaking our mind. We must not throw this amazing agency away and hold it dear. We need to learn how to keep our emotions composed and remember - it is just words on a screen, often by people you don't know or will meet. If we could just take other's opinions as their own and not take them onboard ourselves, it will contribute to our growth immensely. Thanks for this convo.

I loved this and getting to hear Kristinas experience being a raw vegan leader in the media, yet being demonized by other people in the movement. Her videos have always been kind and warm, and full of positive ideas like recipes and other helpful information. Many channels survive on videos that focus on tearing non vegan people or other vegans down. That doesn’t help anybody. The fact that Kristina has always focused on sharing positive messages and has never used the name of another person, even if they used hers, in a negative light, really shows her character and the level of professionalism of her business. I’m sorry that she has dealt with so much negativity when she is spreading such a positive message. Thanks for this episode 💕🌼🌸

I’m still wondering when Kristina will acknowledge when she said to my face, at the Woodstock Fruit Festival 2013, “it doesn’t matter” - when she’d not pitched up to the dance class she was scheduled to give - where 30 people were waiting for the class to start.
I left the class after a half hour of waiting and saw Kristina come out of one of the more expensive chalets.
I told her there are all these people waiting for word of class cancellation or for her to show up as scheduled.
To which she said to me “it doesn’t matter”, as she walked away.
    I felt horrified and disgusted.
None of this is me having a hard day.
I was having a great time at the festival.
I was just so disgusted in her response because I care about people genuinely and my need for honor, integrity, authenticity wasn’t met when she did that.
I have plenty of things going on in my life - this is nothing to do with “not having something to do” or “being vindictive” or “envy or jealousy”.
This has to do with asking Kristina to be real and tell the truth - that she said that and didn’t care about those people waiting.
Nor me that has to hear that.
Ugh. The Festival just wasn’t the same and I don’t think I’ll return because of it.
To understand that action’s consequence is that I no longer believe her “good intentions” and “altruism”.
    Not trying to “cancel” her.
Just hoping she can see her pattern and understand why some people don’t trust her.
Honestly, I watch her because I’m always looking for wholesome vegan content.
But, since that interaction with her, there’s a cringiness underlying now.
I’ve reached out to her a few times about it. She continues to ignore my requests. It’s difficult to believe her. There’s no hate from me. She continues, for the rest of her life’s patterns, to Avoid this. I did come to the source and tried to talk to her about it. I will continue to doubt her integrity until she addresses what happened.
I understand she doesn’t like that part of herself nor wants to face that part of her that “doesn’t care about people” in a way she wants to be seen to.
She wants a public apology from veg news for doing something that doesn’t meet her need for integrity.
I’d like NOT a public apology from her, on behalf of those 30 people at the Woodstock Fruit Festival, that didn’t meet our needs for integrity… I’d like public explanation and admittance that she truly doesn’t always care.
Kristina, how about you just start with this?
Win me over again by being brave and doing this. Not for me - for you.
Cos this pattern of yours is THE THING people can pick up on and why you dig your hole to self pity.
Ellen, Andrew, Cash, don’t “cancel” me for speaking up and making my request.
Kristina, a real friend tells you the truth.
I have done this here, again.
You might not “be in a place you can hear me out”. I’m not waiting around. Just saying - this is in the background of my experience of you wherever I notice you via your content.
And I’m not the only one.
    Can you understand this?
    Can you create unity here?
Can you shift your perspective and see where I’m coming from?
It’s not from any trauma, nor lashing out, that I ask for this simple thing - for your growth and contribution to the moment you said “it doesn’t matter” about those 30 people who were waiting, confused, disappointed and then I’m the one who has to continue to support a vegan sister who did that (said “it doesn’t matter” - which doesn’t meet my need for integrity), because I’m the one who was exposed to it. Well, thanks alot🤷🏽‍♀️.
So I’m the one who keeps asking:
Can you face this, acknowledge this, say that sometimes you just don’t really give a 💩 about people and that’s the truth. We can see through it and you’re trying to convince us we’re not seeing what we’re seeing. Come on. I ask you to use this opportunity to be real.
This is a first hand account of my experience with you in person, Kristina. Can you not react from emotion, and actually hear the problem?
Can you then face this issue in yourself and then let me see your growth towards integrity?
Can you overcome your fear of embarrassment and step up? Not see this as an attack but as your responsibility to face in a kind way?
    We’ll see.

Honestly, who cares? Why are you pressed about something that happened so long ago? @@janliz7967 @Mama2agn yes, integrity, transparency and honor is that important to me… Feeling at ease is that important to me… that I will continue to ask her to talk about it publicly.
It’s not “saying anything about anybody”.
It’s a simple request at best, for her to stop faking /feigning care of others in every video (mostly just adverts these days, for her product affiliates and, in future, whatever she produces on her land - just to make money)… and at the least, it’s a first hand account of my experience with her that I am sharing with you, so you all know what happened and what she didn’t do about it - she didn’t care about the people at all.
The truth is, to her, We “don’t matter”.
She didn’t even pop in to say “ah, sorry, not sorry - I was busy doing other things and didn’t feel like giving the class”. But then she complains about her reputation as fake.
It happened in 2013, but I watched this podcast last week. It’s still relevant and annoying if she continues to point the finger at others, without looking at herself and what she’s done.
Saying “it doesn’t matter” is not ok.
We held space for her instead of going to the lake or taking a different class, or sleeping in, or going for a run. It does matter. We do matter.
I care. Who knows what those 30 people that day were going through?
Show up for people you committed to show up for. If you can’t, or just don’t care, say so and let them go with dignity to them.
      Thank you.

I have to say this is really eye-opening. I’m not a troll and I don’t usually comment on people‘s pages or anything for that matter, unless it’s positive. However there have been times in the past where I have jumped on the bandwagon, and made comments about the situation thinking it is true because other people might be saying it is. What I realize from this is, we really don’t know anything about anyone. And who gave anyone the right to be so self righteous that we think we have a right to comment about someone’s personal business because they made a video about something unrelated. I think people need to take a deep dark look at them selves and realize the root of trying to bring someone down, stems from self misery and feeling the need to bring everyone down to their level because they cannot elevate themselves. I hope everyone learns some thing from this, it really it’s something to think about.

BLM is part of the problem. It’s a money-making scam with the added baggage of pushing Marxism (it’s openly admitted as such in their stated objectives) and pushing racial division. Proportionally, there are far more incidents of black on black violence than white on black in the US. Police are more likely to use lethal force against white citizens than black. But that doesn’t go along with BLM’s narrative, so the data is buried and people who point it out are marginalised as racists. It’s lunacy. And where are all the millions of dollars that BLM accumulated? Are they helping fund better education or local infrastructure in impoverished communities? Nope, it’s been used to grow the property portfolios of the organisation’s leaders. It’s a pyramid scheme.

I didn't renew my subscription to VegNews because in my opinion they advocate for animal welfare rather than actual veganism. And now I find out that they are trying to bad mouth people who are vegan and advocate for veganism. Well, that just solidifies my opinion! So who is actually behind their company. It doesn't sound like descent people who want to advocate for veganism. People need to start waking up. I would say that 99 percent of these so called organizations and magazines that say they are trying to help animals and promote veganism are actually NOT vegan and really are in it to destroy the vegan movement.
