    Excellent demonstration. No more complaining of tatamis being too hard. Any tatami is a good tatami.

    As for the wood floors..remember it's not as hard as a regular wooden floor..there a little give which makes it a little softer..but you still gotta use excellent ukemi..but judo like randori maybe not

    Anybody knows the differences between Aikikai, Aikido, Aiki-jitsu, Daito-ryu and Iaido 🤔?

    • @Diego-hm1wd
      @Diego-hm1wd 3 роки тому +5

      Aikikai is the main school/federation of aïkido, and carries with the founder's aîkido's legacy (there are other schools that have been created by Ueshiba's students as tomiki aïkido or yoshinkan aïkido per example, with some technical diferencies). Daito-ryu (its complete name is daito-tyu aiki-jujutsu) is a school of japanese jujustu (there were many different schools or koryu of jujutsu) and is considered as the ancestor of modern aïkido (the founder of aïkido, Morihei Ueshiba, studied daito-ryu and used it to create aïkido). Iaido is the katana art of drawing your sword and cutting in one movement. The other katana arts are kendo (people in armor who fight with shinais) and kenjustsu (art of using a katana). Those 3 are complementary and all come from kenjutsu (there were many different schools or koryu of kenjutsu). Aïki justu is like a different form of aïkido, more brutal and closer to jujutsu, but I am not sure for this one so you should make some research aha.
      I hope this helped you, and sorry for my english I haven't practiced it in a while

      @@Diego-hm1wd .. Thanks, it helped a bit. It's like a jungle to figure out 😅
      I have a past in Jiu jitsu, which is somewhat like Aikido.
      I knew about Kendo and kenjutsu, i happen to have a shinai myself (haven't used it though).

      @@graciescottsdale the founder of hapkido claims that he studied daito-ryu aikijujutsu under takeda sokaku, but there isn't any mention of him in takeda's registers (and he was known to write his student's names there meticulously as it was kind of a contract because he didn't teach without being paid aha).
      So, we are not sure that he studied under him but his name may be absent because he is corean, or for other reasons, so we can't really be sure of anything.
      Either way, i'm not very familiar with hapkido but it is very clear that it has borrowed some techniques from daito-ryu aikijujutsu / aikido

      Aikido is actually made up mostly from the first 118 Jujutsu techniques of the Hiden Mokuroku scroll. Ironically despite the name, very little if any actuall "aiki" made it into Aikido.

    Any videos where these techniques are pressure tested against fully resistant partners??

    • @2012cxland
      @2012cxland Рік тому

      In aikido there is no training with someone who resists because in this way learning is lost, each "technique" must be worked on as a concept, not as something directly applicable. Being clear about the concept, its application has infinite variants. What you see in the videos are demonstrations.
      But This type of training exists, It is not about resisting but rather producing sincere attacks, I don't remember its name in Japanese, but they are taught from 3rd dan onwards, because it requires that the uke be able to absorb the technique without hurting himself (good ukemi), and the tori can execute the defense with all his strength power. Cheers.

      Look boy, let me help you. Long time ago there was martial art called jujutsu. They taught how win by throws, choking, twists and hits in vulnerable points. But there were a lot of different schools of this martial art. Daito Ryu Jujustu was opened for public by Sokaku Takeda - and after some time he changed name on Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu. Aiki before jujutsu mean using the strategic principle of Aiki what could make techniques faster, stronger, deadlier and could win in much stronger opponent. To better understanding aikijujutsu you must know way of learning Aiki - it start from jujutsu (techniques use a lot of atemi, throws, twist etc), next is aiki no jutsu, or mastery of using energy (they use for techiques only enemies power), in the end it could be mixed in aikijujutsu, where are working principles from jujutsu and aiki no jutsu. Yeap, it`s difficult to understand. Also there are many stules of aikijujustu but i think that they are pretty similar. There are no daitos except Daito Ryu. Aiki is aiki - saving the enemy power and using it against him.

    If you believe this tiny girl is "throwing" - &/or neutralizing a bigger, realistically resistant male attacker as anything approximate to real life - what is your favorite flavor of kool aid? Choreographed demonstration drills have their use in training to learn technique basics but ridiculous when an art stops PRIMARILY at choreography for public demonstration and training. The majority of modern aikido and aiki-justsu have done themselves a defense art disservice by MOSTLY taking out realistic resistant sparring - unlike far more realistic jujitsu, non sport judo, or even sport bjj and Olympic judo. Martial atrophy and mis-messaging arts lack integrity as "martial arts". Static "Martial-istic Arts" dance is more accurate.

    • @guillaumeerard
      @guillaumeerard  3 роки тому +1

      In all fairness, mainstream aikido is pretty upfront about its lack of interest for practicality. Granted, many Daito-ryu organizations are less honest about it.

    • @eirecbleire
      @eirecbleire 3 роки тому +1

      @@guillaumeerard You appear to me as an honest, informed and seasoned sensei. Though over decades to present times - I've encountered too many aikidokas like former aikidoka, Rokas, of Martial Arts Journey of UA-cam fame, who communicated and mistakenly believed aikido taught to them was an "effective defense" in a real life situation against resistant attackers and even seasoned skilled fighters.
      Their sensei and too many of their fellow "culture think" aikidokas did them a great disservice without tested evidence based reality. Of course more aikidokas of today, than the early 90's, may be clued-in modern aikido is not a reality based defense art which requires honing defensively by at least actual REAL sparring etc.
      But this doesn't excuse, in my experience, the detachment of defense/combat reality too much aiki culture STILL communicates even today. The false messaging is still there. I speak as a former Tenshin, Ki Society and Aikikai aikidoka. Because I had former sparring experience - I knew I wasn't being taught realistically enough to think I could depend on aikido as I was trained. Not without a lot of atemi waza etc. informed by my prior sparring from highly resistant grappling and boxing experience.
      Aikido culture, in America at least, needed a better honest critical eye what it was communicating to students and to the public, though now a bit less naive today than prior years. Sure, MMA was a big wake up call for most. I love aiki principles and use them in daily life bio-mechanically, ki wise, aiki shin etc., but I'm saddened a more defense practical form of the art largely hasn't survived that I'm aware despite some attempting to address this.
      If one already is seasoned by heavy sparring and/or real physical conflict - aiki arts have their place in workable defense applications against skilled, strong &/or very aggressive opponents. But that's been a big "if" with far too many aikidokas I've encountered - who mistakenly thought they were "prepared" for a real spar or even a full-on aggressor, semi competent or better.

    • @guillaumeerard
      @guillaumeerard  3 роки тому +1

      @MoronMuckups It can be, but there are many other benefits beyond practicality. However, it's up to people to find out what they are. The study of any budo requires time, dedication, and depth. It just cannot be summarized on social media, or into marketing blurb that would fit on a bumper sticker. Granted those are probably not popular notions nowadays, which might explain why budo are on the decline, but that does not change what they are. I would in fact argue that budo are especially valuable nowadays because their slow burn nature goes against the zeitgeist.

    • @guillaumeerard
      @guillaumeerard  3 роки тому

      @MoronMuckups Indeed, which is why unlike many other people, I'm not worried at all about the current decline of budo. It's a cyclic thing and there will probably be a time when people have a different relationship with time, effort, and hopefully violence. Budo will become popular again, but whether or not they do, I don't let that affect my personal practice. Thanks!
