That is a beautiful car. My Mom had one just like this one and she had a heavy foot.I remember going with my Dad and Mom to try out new cars. We looked at everything that the major dealers had and she kept declining all of the salesmen that tried to sell her a car. No Ford, Chevy, Olds, Pontiac, or anything had brought her back to any of the dealers. We made it to a larger town that had a bunch of larger dealerships. There were o Mopar dealers there where we lived and they also had short stocks. When we were pulling into the Mopar dealership in the big town she spotted a New Yorker almost exactly like yours. She kept telling these dumb ass salesmen she wanted something that she would have no problem when it came to passing or going around slower traffic but they kept ignoring her and would show my Dad stuff and they were told that it was her car and they were going to have to sell to her, not him. Finally there was a salesman that listened. When we went to test drive the New Yorker and she put her foot into it she came away with a really big grin. My Dad knew she was going to buy the car when he saw that. Her car was a darker blue but pretty much the same interior. She loved that car and I did too when I turned 16 and it was a couple of years old I could use it for dates sometime. Talk about something that would roll, it would run buddy. The closest thing that came close was a Oldsmobile with a 455 HO in it. But she thought it was too big and bulky looking. But it sure did run a close race.
I didn't think the New Yorker was the fastest car around, given it's sheer size. Ha, given it's reputation for guzzling gas, I bet she might have been caught stranded on empty at least once or twice, stepping on it like she wants to go fast, but stuck going nowhere?
I drove my elderly neighbor's '71 base model 2-door navy blue New Yorker when I was seventeen, and wasn't used to power brakes and man, I almost went thru the windshield. Sensitive and powerful brakes! It was 9 yrs. old and mint, like this one and driving it was like steering a cargo ship. Real light steering.
Brotha, now that is one super sexy full-sized, 2 door coupe! Stunning color, stunning specs with the trim and rallye wheels, stunning coordination with the top and interior and she's all in stunning condition. Gotta love Mopar! Thanks for sharing this beauty! -Chris
What?! A '71 New Yorker with buckets, console and a floor shift? I grew up with these cars, had a '70 Newport Custom 2-door in the same color paint, and I would have bet good money that these options weren't even available on a New Yorker. I'm thinkin' we're looking at "one of one" here. The most gorgeous fuselage-body Mopar I've ever seen.
A center console with a shifter on a C body New Yorker? Holy Crap!!!! That's gotta be super super rare. I've never seen one with that option in my 50 years on this earth. WOW.
Wish I could of seen inside that massive trunk and a bit more interior, But I really love the buckets and floor shift that is really cool on a boat like this! Well done indeed 👍
My parents bought a brand new 1972 New Yorker Brougham, 2 door, B5 blue with with a white vinyl top and white leather interior, high back bucket seats, obviously fully loaded. Absolutely GORGEOUS luxury coupe. I was only 8 years old but I can still remember how total strangers would "always" approach my dad while at the gas pumps to compliment his car. Chrysler changed to front and back end in '73. Personally, I think the '72 is so much better looking.
What a beauty! In high school a friend had a pretty rough Satellite of the same year, very similar inside with that white vinyl interior, those seats, the dash and steering wheel. It flew us everywhere we wanted to go. There's a tan New Yorker, not nearly as mint as this example that I see in the next town over from time to time, it's quite a cruiser for sure!
Chrysler Plymouth Dodge in this era was producing amazing cars. This is no exception. Dad had a 1967 then a 1973 Plymouth Fury 3 sedan and wow just wow to both cars. Nothing like them before or since.
Chrysler New Yorker was the only car in its class that offered leather bucket seats and console with floor shifter. This set up was unavailable in the Buick Electras and Olds 98s during this time period.
Man that is a sweet ride I love the color with white interior and love the console shift. I have never ever seen a C body with console shift especially on a New Yorker. That is one sexy ass car I must say.
I had a 1971 Imperial LaBaron 2 door H.T. 440TNT & 727Torqueflite. It too like this one was so very nice. Big,fast, comfortable, and it handled plus 20 m.p.g. on the interstates. Just love these things. Crying shame they're not made anymore. This one's a real beauty.
225/75 on the front and 235/75 ...on the rear. I added one leaf to the springs both sides. I also placed heavy duty shock absorbers on the back called cargo springs..coil- over shocks..all said and done gained an inch and 3/4 in rear height and the ride comfort was not affected.. handled fantastic..loads of torque..quick for its size..stops on a dime..you feel like a man when you drive it. Tall gears 2.76 unlimited top end speed. If you had enough road you you would hit 140mph ..and feel like your only going 75-80..this is the car for long trips across a country. Other drivers are intimidated when they see you in their mirror..the car has it's own presence...you feel like somebody when you drive cars like this
I grew up with the identical (parent's) car except with stunning light green metallic. It was a blast to drive in my teens. I took my driver's test with it, no problem. I must admit it wouldn't win many drag races, but was a great high speed, late night cruiser. I was lucky to survive, no joking.
I've seen my share of these cars in my day and they are pretty awesome love those old Mopars but I don't think I've ever seen one with a console. Great color combo sweet car!
Robert, looks like your video has been up for some time but it was worth watching and appreciating your piece of history that is in awesome shape. Auto on the floor option even. Not sure if you are the original owner, but it would be cool to see the build sheet. Ideally which you may already know they slipped them under the rear passenger seat. Believe thats where I found mine in my 68 Catalina. From Pflugerville, Texas! Cheers!
Damn what a wonderful example. How damn rare is a bucket seat floor shift console New Yorker. Looks like power seats on both sides. Rear defroster, what is the second rocker switch at center dash. I know one is for the rear defrost. I know it had tilt and telescope. Power windows. I messed up in 1982, I had a 85K mile 70 Plymouth Fury Gran Coupe nicely optioned. I had zero clue how rare it was (about 675). In 1984 I had a 1973 Imperial, had the posi, lock alarm, sure brake, rear air, basically most options.
Hi Robert, I love it. She's a beauty. I love the big ol land barges. We never saw them down here in Australia. The closest thing I had was a 1977 CL Chrysler SE 318 727 4dr. It used the same power window switches as your Chrysler. It's A Mopar or No Car! Cheers Bob 🍻
Nice car. 1971 was the last year before the senior Chrysler products just became "too big" (with the styling cues that made them look bigger and bulkier than they actually were).
Fantastic Car. Chrysler called their locker "Sure-Grip" that's right. "Posi-Traction" is a General Motors Trademarked brand name for their locking or "anti-spin" type differential. FoMoCo called theirs "Traction Lok"...
somebody walked into the Chrysler dealership in Swift Current and ticked off every option on the option list! Even the 8 track which was probably about 12 watts a side lol. (no sun roof, not sure if you could get one on this car, they had them on the Chargers in 1969).
Yes the sunroof was available in 71 but the original owner didn't check that box..very rare model with the console and Gun Metal Gray combo. 49000 miles.
My uncle had a ‘71 NY 4 door sedan. It had all these options plus the floor mounted cassette player. Wish I had it today. The leather interior smelled wonderful.
@Star Wars 2018 As i said styling preferences are subjective you have the maturity of a five year old if you can't understand that, you disagree fine but don't liken me to a blind person because i like a car that you don't. The reason i like the stying is the sleek parallel lines of the roof with the window and the bottem of the car and without the b piller it makes it look far more sleek the back tail light looks cool because its sunken and you cant see it.
@@Aman-fv5if -The wheels are a set of Chryslers own custom factory mags....THEY LOOK GREAT !!!! OBVIOUSLY THERE ARE SOME PPL. COMMENTING THAT WEREN'T CRAZY ABOUT THE 70's ERA DESIGN; AND THATS FINE, HOWEVER UNDERSTAND THERE ARE THOSE OF US WHO APPRECIATED AND ENJOYED THE DESIGNS FROM 'YESTERYEAR'.
Beautiful...but it is missing its fender skirts. That lower trim line was not meant to be broken but was carried all the way across the car on fender skirts which should be there.
If you look closer the trim continues unbroken so the removal of the skirts(which I have) does not break up the smooth flow of the car, and I am in favor of seeing more rim and tire which the skirts hid ,I like fender skirts but not on post 70's cars, 50's and early 60s they were great.
Buckets seats in New Yorker!!! Very very RARE !!! LOVE IT 💕😳
This design and bodystyle is one of the nicest cars ever built / made
got that right
Great color scheme. It really works on that car.

did hers have an antenna switch?
@@sticksbass No I don't belive it had a switch but when you turned the radio on the power antennae would come out by itself.

Tiny little roof makes the huge body look even BIGGER. Amazing vinyl roof design below the rear window. Magnificent land yacht!
MY GOD!!! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL CAR, REALLY VERY BEAUTIFUL, EXCELLENT VIDEO YOUR CHANNEL DESERVED MY REGISTRATION.
"Excuse me, but I asked for the LARGE coupe..." I love this HUGE car!
Now that is a beautiful car. Somebody placed that car on order. Sport package. With a standard issue 440 wax wedge, with a four barrel. Love it.
What i love about this car is the integrated bumper, grill, and headlamps....beautiful

I love that floor shifter..I have not seen like 2 NY ers with that feature...that just a beautiful car.

Always thought the 1971 had a very sharp design. Love the bucket seats. Very very nice car.

a piece of art
Nicely optioned !
I own a very similar car, 71 new yorker coupe same paint color except with fabric interior and black vinyl top.
I've always preferred fabric upholstery rather than leather or vinyl, more comfortable and more FORMAL.

So Cool ! Thanks for this post .

Back when a dealer emblem was as attractive as the Mopar emblems. Instead of a cheap piece of sticky paper that rots after a few months.

In terms of styling, 1971 was a good year for all three US car companies.
very clean car, lots of desirable options! I remember when they were new, but nowadays that rear deck seems a mile long!
Memorable Mopar!
Magnificent Beauty

Beautiful automobile!

I'm surprised it wasn't made into a pickup...I can see it...What a Trunk
What a car should be
A bucket seat console shifter a rare car.
