Congratulations on retirement, Mark! It is the best "job" I've ever had. I have a 49' ultrawide monitor and the sense of immersion is wonderful. I'm one of those that don't enjoy VR because of eyestrain and the hot headset. I feel like with the ultrawide, I am not missing that much, especially with the Tobii.

I also use the 48" OLED monitor. I would move it closer to the back of your controls. It feels strange at first , but you will adapt quickly and not go back to the distance you currently have. That close up will double your sense of immersion.

Although I mainly fly VR too, it's always an eye opener to go back to a big monitor with TrackIR and enjoy the insane framerates a 4090 can give, along with the incredible sharpness. Flying low and slow over places like Rome with everything on Ultra in a chopper you can see every brick in the buildings. Up until 2009, I was stuck with 25", or 32" CRT monitors. Once the 46" ones came down in price, I got one, and have been using it for flight sims, and other games, ever since. I recently got the Quest 2, about a year ago, and that's become the prime display for flight simulation. My 46" is now the prime backup for flight simulation. Wish the large monitors were around, and affordable decades ago. LOL I know what you're on about, when you talked about burn in. I had a 3 gun, CRT tube type projector, which put out a 100" image, but was a beast to calibrate the convergence on. I watch tons of NASA TV, and back in the day, (in the 90s), I watched so much NASA TV on it, the meatball logo did burn in. So, no matter what I watched, it was like every program had a watermark logo of the NASA meatball logo on it. LOL I miss that projector. I did run some simulations on it, but that was back when the best sim in town was flight sim 95, and 98, on a Pentium II, and III. LOL Thanks for the video.

I may be wrong, not yet having reached the VR stage, but I believe that people with limited vision in one eye, may struggle to gain the benefit of VR. The point being, a large decent physical screen (or screens) is probably the best option in that case. I mention this because my better half has limited vision in one eye, but enjoys watching the Flight Sim on screen, and occasionality flying too. That's one reason why I have not yet gone to VR, and have worked on using screens instead. Obviously, if I win the lottery, all bets are off, and it's off to the VR Shop I will go!

A note to the producer. Try cutting the bass on your microphone. All I hear on my tv is a rumble of lower frequencies in your voice. They tend to take over as you speak so softly and the microphone probably is set to some general setting, picking up and amplifying too low frequencies. It sounds ok on a phone, but you need to remix your content for tv, cutting out the exaggerated low frequencies in the voice.

Hi Mark! I have a quick question for you:
    1. Are you overclocked to 138Hz? If so, do you get the constant screen turn off, especially when switching windows? I read, I believe on Reddit, where it was suggested to bring it back to 120Hz for now until probably a new firmware fixes this issue. Looks like a lot of people are having this issue.
    2. Have you tried MSFS in HDR? What has your experience been like, if you have used it? Also, how is it with watching HDR content including UA-cam HDR videos? For me, for night flights, it's extremely awesome but for sunrise/sunset, especially just at the very beginning when the sun is at or slightly above eye level, the clouds look a bit weird. What is your experience?
For me, I've tried playing with ultra settings at 110-123 FPS on 4K HDR, but recording at ultra settings on OBS Studio brings it down to around 80 FPS with all ultra settings, TAA, Frame Generation ON, and terrain LOD at 300. With the new NVENC AV1 codec, the file size is pretty small and the image is very good and almost no dropped frames. Usually with NVENC H264, the file size for an hour & a half SDR video for me @60 FPS was usually around 70GB+ using CQP 14, but with the new NVENC AV1, I tried CBR and 70,000 kbps and HDR @60 FPS (actual sim was running at 80-90 because of FlightControlReplay + OBS), and the file size was just 36.4GB.
Please could you share your experiences and maybe any tips you might have?

Hey Mark, great video, as always. I hope you don't mind me asking your opinion, I've been looking closely at buying this monitor but there are just two things I am concerned with. Firstly I have seen another review of the monitor and the guy was saying that he gets regularly a pop up message which alerts the viewer about burn in. I would find that really irritating, do you have this issue? Also, I am looking for a monitor that doesn't display the 'feature' of auto dimming, when the screen will adjust the brightness according to the scene, I find this extremely annoying on our TV at home. I read somewhere that this Asus monitor has the ability to turn it off. Have you seen this? Thanks.

Hi Mark, after seeing this video I went and got myself a 45 inch LG Ultra Gear curved 29:1 (3440 x 1440) monitor of which I’m basically very happy with. I do have one question however, and I wonder if you have come across this before, and that is although the curvature looks very nice, I do find that the cockpit instrument panel is slightly curving and I’m wondering if this is a trick of my eye or there is some kind of vertical alignment I need to do? Would you have any idea on this please? As I say it’s a bold curvature so it is quite curved. Thank you for your time in advance.

My Monitor is not curved so not sure. You will get some minor distortion towards the edges on a curved monitor, the degree will very much depend on your resolution. The higher the resolution the less distortion will be evident.

I really don't want troubles and fatigue for my eyes, but having already tried the 2 alternatives no doubt that the monitor choice is really inmersive

Mark, I really like your Old Guys Rule T-Shirt collection. I do have a question for you. I also have the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 and a Pimax Crystal headset. However I do not have access to the Pimax Beta Software. What I am concerned about is does the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 conflict with the Tobii Eye Tracker within the Pimax Crystal? Do you have to disconnect one to run the other successfully? I am hoping that is all that would be required, but I thought I would ask you since you have the experience. I am anxiously awaiting the release of the Pimax software to enable Eye Tracking and DFV. Supposedly that will not be released until September. Thanks in advance and Cheers!

Also do you think you’d be able to connect a Honeycomb A & B plus a Warthog joystick and warthog throttle at the same time? If it’s possible my plan is to make an empty profile for each within MSFS and essentially only ever having 2 live profiles working at once so one throttle doesn’t interfere with the other and the same for the joystick and yoke.
