so far this is the nicest mpc tutorial video on the net
This true old school for these young guys who does not know how to sample there drums.. Great video.
Exactly Barry, great comment. I've heard people make incredible beats with software and on the flipside, I've heard some really crappy beats pumped out on an MPC. It's the individual's talent that matters, not what he uses.
you can change your sample from stereo to mono in your daw it doesnt combine the two sounds it just simply picks a left or right chanel and deletes the other... the same technique applies to noth machines and program users... from vinyl to mixer to mpc or program... i find choping on the mpc to be much faster than clicking my mouse a bunch of times tbh
doesnt matter about hardware or program they both have their pros and cons... theres something about hardware that you cant deny and thats the sound that it produces.. in the end it all comes down to a persons workflow...
is using hardware more expensive then just buying a program?
thanks homie appreciate that
finally. the man behind the beats
I keep coming back to this video with a notebook each time I wanna refresh on how to sample drums on the 2000xl (or any sampler).
I really appreciate you putting this out there!
You can also take multiple copies of the same kick instead of diff ones and filter them to get this effect.. Just boost the resonance in the bottom one with a low pass filter, opposite for the high one..
Dope video. I like this kind of videos, entering into detail and sharing tips to other producers. It would be great a long series including bass line, chopping samples, arranging... even something about mixing and mastering in a DAW.
Props from Spain!
PS: The classic videos are dope too, don't stop doing them.
Dubs dropping knowledge!!! Peace!
Wow, you truly know your craft. This is some old school kung fu. I love it. I'm downloading two of your packs right now.
Perfect tutorial. keep em coming
great teaching, simple and straight to the point. much respect
this helped so much man, id just been using drum samples without any layering and everything was sounding really flat
HE SPEAKS. Love your channel bro. Keep it strictly hip hop. Never heard you say a word until now though lol
Thanks for dropping those gems I appreciate the work you put in and share with other producers it's priceless thanks homie
Dope video brother, as usual. Would love to see some more how to video like this because it really helps us who haven't mastered the craft yet like you have :)
beautiful stuff, got inspired to get on going the mpc work!
Yeeeessssssss!!!! I was waiting for this! For a long time I was hoping you gonna record something like that! Awesome!
I really enjoyed but it would be perfect if you could do everything a tiny bit slower and a bit more information.
Apart from that I'm delighted! :D
Cheers and hope to see some tutorial videos in the near future! :D
P.S: don't stop doing old videos!
The magic behind of the beats. ♪
Great video man, enjoy everything on your channel... Good stuff
great video. thanks for making it. nice samples.
Good info. Keep making the dope bangers.
Thanks man that's exactly what I was looking for
yo my guy.. You rock homie.. keep up the good work...
im only learning how to use the akai mpc touch and your videos really inspire me to make sampled beats💯 amazing skill👌👏👏
Thanks man, just got my MPC and needed help on building drums.
The King reveals the secret rec drums .... ahahhah Dope brotha nice help
Thanks for the drum tips bro this is def on point
Dope, thanks for the knowledge!
fam you got me about ready to cop an MP and get off my digital ish.
+HomageBeats i hear you g. it's not the equipment you use just the knowledge behind it... the same with my mpc you can do with your program just apply the same techniques that i use... assign each single kick to your mixer board and from there you can bring out the high lows and mid ranges and layer them on top of each other... you can also record drum breaks into your program... lemme know if any of that helped you out homie
Dubs Banger Yeah fam! I appreciate the lengthy response. I've done a ton of research and basically built an effect rack in Ableton that will process my vinyl imports and samples to give me that 16 bit sound (or 12 bit if I wanna mimic the SP). I also rigged an effect rack to mimic the "running it hot" with the gain to get that extra sparkle from the MP. There's just times I get tired of looking at a computer screen haha. Respect to you homie, been following you for awhile. Always inspiring.
I like software but I had to break down an get a standalone piece of gear , I'll still use both together sometimes looking at the computer is a little to much for me
+HomageBeats yeah i cant do that computer screen shit anymore i started off with fl studio for years when i was 16 (im 30 now)... i just want the basic necessities where i can sample what i want and assign it to the pad... i sometimes get tired of the moc 2000 xl where i have to keep chopping the drums up or loading them from other saved projects... if i could have somehting like the renaissance but 100% standalone where i could riffle through saved drum sounds id be a happy man...
I understand , I also use the Roland mv 8800 little slow loading but the sound is great , keep in touch I'll be releasing beats soon nothing loaded to my page yet thank for the response , checked out a few of your instrumentals , tight work!!!!!
He is talking!!! Sweet bro! Tight beats!
Man got mad skillz
Keep on brother
very helpful. but the one thing i dont get is after I sample the drum do i have to duplicate to four and filter them to get one high range , middle and then the 2 bass range or i should find different kits plus the one i sample to form the full range
Sounds beautiful man.
I like your videos I learn a whole lot
bring that I'm an ASR head don't stop doing it
thanks for the knowledge fam....much apreciateed...
thanks for this fam. a fan of your vids
dope man..well thought out technique
Master class fella ;)
Really helpful video, and the beat is dope! I've noticed that 9th wonder used the same sample), anyway keep making this type of video, really helpful men) Thanks.
This is real dope. I use the Maschine 2, and I have been using this same technique since I been watching your videos. I been watching for a long time haha. I'm just glad I can apply this knowledge with the Maschine. I love this video because I now understand how samples, drums especially, are programmed into the MPC 2000. (Been trying to get my hands on one of those for a while) All your videos are very helpful, and I love the techniques that I can learn from your channel. People are usually pretty hard kept with this kind of knowledge. I could almost say you're crazy dude lol Keep up the good work! :)
+4music2power0 appreciate that homie glad you can further your knowledge about creating music... if youre using the maschine i would stick with using that and just apply the same knowledge and techniques that i do with the mpc...
Very helpful! Thanks man!
Really useful vid man! Thanks
Beatbro… Thanx. Always. Mike
Enjoyed this.
Hi DUBS, would you consider selling boombap drumloop sample packs? Your patterns are dope!
nice video and dat beat was bangin keep makin it do wat it do peace!!!!#
Legendary process....
yes i been lookin for the old school way for sampling
Yo you should do a video on how u chop your samples next
+Jason Godinez i have a video coming out soon how i go over what and how i sample from demonstration. keep a look out for it
Thanks for this tutorial. It deals with issues that I've been thinking about myself. I'm definitely gonna try this out. One thing I would like to learn more about is how to improve the workflow on the MP 2k xl. After four years of MPC beatmaking I do make nice beats, but it takes me a long time to make a goodsounding beat. Peace.
keep practicing and practicing... youll get use to the workflow...
Sick Vid brah, Liking this shiot
nice vid much props showing your way of work ! keep up if it possible to show how you record in DAW the finish beat using limiter things like that.
That's Dope!!
-For people who don't sample their drums "Even If you don't use recorded drum breaks..." ...Let's try to start recording them!! eheheh
Good tips for the people man! Big Up!
Good video man. IMO you should make a complete guide how to make beats in old school way.
DUBBBSSSS!!!
Ok man. Good looking out. I'm used to doing the drums first. But I see I need to switch it up. Thanks a lot. I'll let yanno how it goes.
You're the man!! Keep doing videos like these! I have a question...when you picked the various snares and kicks in the different frequency ranges, where were those sounds from? all from that same break? or just ones that you have liked throughout past projects? thanks brother!
+Phil Iacono i show you that i extracted the two snares and the two kicks and the single hi hat from one drum break... the other kicks, snares, hi hats, ive gathered from records over the years but they were just basically single shots... ive mostly recorded them from disco records
+Dubs Banger thanks man, I'm gonna keep working! Look forward to all your videos
@@dubsbanger My question is if it isn’t better to try different drum sounds to layer with, to avoid that the drums on the beats sound too much the same? Anyway great video! Big up.
Also can you do a video on the recording process ? Do you just let it fly and add varience while the beat plays ? Or do you chop it up with variences and put them together in sections ?
Thank you !
good stuff man... peace
you seem like the kinda guy that would be super fun to go on a rank bender with
This video is the truth 🙌
buenísimo!
you real good at this yes I would love to work with you and collab on some thing with you I use Fl Studio 11 & 12 but your beats is on point 🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👌💯💯💯💯
Nice, man
you the best
Great Video
Spectacular
That outro beat is sick
nice.tutorial, thanks
Hey, I have a question, because I'm trying to learn and these videos teach a lot, but I'm unsure of something here... When you layer the kick/snare, are you layering it the new sample with samples you already had (as favourites or whatever) ? Or are you layering the same new sample two or three times at different levels?
Hope that makes sense, anyone feel free to answer as it's old and Dubs is likely pretty busy.... Thanks
Yes, it looks like he has a collection of drums set to autoload that he uses as go to layer samples.
Thank god i own maschine studio. This is a hideous process. haha. Great tips on laying though! Keep pushing G
Always dope. Man I haven't turned on my xl in over 3 months just used to the mpd and get frustrated with the xl trying to learn it
+idriysdagod09 the xl isnt hard at all to learn... what are you having troubles with?
Dubs Banger so your using a filter for the kicks do u have to use a compressor
Hi thanks for the vid, how would you do a cowbell ?
so you need a dj mixer? i do it with an interface, but i don´t have that mono option, i see you got signal from both channels
Really good! Thank you!). But can you explain me please: so we need 3 or 4 kicks in differ. Ranges and we layer them with differ velocity. Do we need to transpose them? And the same with snares, am i rigjt?
Do you run into a lot of phasing issues when you layer the drums like this?
no i dont
Like the black cursor on your xl.
awesome mate. you remember where you got these drum sounds from ? they sound very old school
interesting, what is your compressor , also have you got got other rack effect ?
Let me get this clearly - you are layering the same samples on top of each and then isolating frequencies? Or are you layering the main, sec, ghost etc. on top of each other?
It'd be dope if you added a link to a zip fldr of a bunch of sounds you use
🔥🔥🔥🤯🤯🤯
Manuevering with The Numerics ! ,nice
awesome
Thanks a milli
🔥
this is really complicated ... i really like the gears u use.
Yo dubs dope video! Whats the name of that mixer you use? I like that the mixer has a mono switch. 👌🏼
It's a Numark model. Not sure the exact model but I'm sure google can help further.
Interesting!
are you layering by hitting one pad for all of the snares, kicks and hi hats etc? Or are you keeping them individual pads
theyre on individual pads but are triggered with the touch of one single pad
Bro how did you not get any parts of the sample when you chopped your drums .. was it the dj mixer ? And you always use those same drums from that sample ?
Obrigado por deixar legenda em português (BR) 🙏
Or you independent ? What artists you working with now if any wondering?
Hi Dubs, could you take a quick look and tell me... Will I be able to do the same thing with Numark m101? As I can see, there's no mono-stereo switch on it.
You working with the mpc 2kxl? If you do, in the sample screen just switch from stereo to mono & there you go! Peace fam
dope dope very dope!!!!! what mixer are you using??
+africanrevolution numark m6 usb
Good lookin' fam! More videos like this!
Dope
dubbs, is that the numark m6 usb mixer?
yes
Dubs, I program the drums on the MPC 2000XL 1/16(3) and I double time the BPM like you.
My drums Swing nothing like yours. What am I doing wrong?
Turn the quantize off
i keep timing off. it comes with practice to get good timing
