Ben + Marcel + Ouen = Match made in Heaven! Ben had a good reason to play Dupré exactly here because the composer grew up in Rouen and witnessed the birth of this amazing organ, possibly the most beautiful one built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, who cherished the young Marcel like a second godfather
So grand organ...and playing these pieces. It is amazing that this organ is so old and genuine ... and sounds superb. Must be the loudest Bombarde 32' .
I ididn' know that Ben Van Oosten had recorded Dupré ! What a pleasure listening my favourite P & F from Van Oosten, this one in A flat Major, and on the Saint-Ouen organ ! What a masterpiece, sadly unrecognized, and so few played ! I didn't know the Lamento, I go and learn it. Finally, the Final from Évocation is awesome from the hands of Van Oosten ! And it is unplayable for me !
This Prelude and Fugue is a jewel in the organ repertoire, incredibly structured, technically terrifying and a magnificent concluding piece for a recital. I can only keep practising! 😢
Sadly some minors, this instrument is in need of a very good clean up. It is covered with a lot of dust, which is not good for the sound. The reeds no longer work due to huge pollution and dust. If this is a so called "momument historique"', it is time for action. It is a bloody shame that this very important instrument is thoroughly neglected. it needs a long awaited restoration and cleanup.

Van Oosten and St. Ouen ist just a genius symbiosis. So great!
Masterful playing. Very compelling.
Magnifique ! Cet orgue est une splendeur !!

fantastico luogo, fantastico strumento
This is storytelling which opens the window to the metaphysical atmosphere.

Van Oosten subsequently recorded the entire Dupre organ works on the MDG label. 12 CDs. Definitive set!
