when you were putting the new alternator from underneath you shorted the alternator against the connecting wire since you did not also disconnect the positive terminal from battery.
Electrical power requires a positive AND negative path to flow electricity. There is no short because with the negative of the battery disconnected, there is no electrical path even if he touched the positive lead directly to ground.
Had the same alternator issue on a Lancia Fulvia (1975). Changed the alternator but it still wont charge. I don’t get like 14V, I get like 12.6V at max?! Any advice?

Allen key bolt in the alternater is standard suzuki swift.
Ive got 3 suzy swifts and all have the allen key bolt.

Did you find that the alternator was okay and the ECU was at fault, not sending a signal to the alternator?
No it was the Alternator. Fitted another one and it was ok
