Lovely, you have done a fantastic job and I will be watching the other vids prior. We all have a list of what we could have done better and the first thing we all do once the pond is done is to set about changing it 😅. Love the shingle bed and such a great idea on the slotted pipe, if you had done this years ago and I had found it I might have a very different pond now instead of a tank with a bottom drain but I may move one day so.... Enjoy what you have created
I really enjoyed the "mistakes I made" bit and "what I'd change". As I'm planning on building something very similar....now the wife has agreed😂 this video has helped me make some decisions. Great video and beautiful pond
The pond is amazing looks incredible. Really looking forward to seeing how it works over time. I'm a novice, I inherited a pond going on 5 years now and I'm trying to learn what's best and what works and really appreciate people like yourself sharing their journey 👍
@@JacksMotolife thanks for the kind words! I will be breaking down various aspects of the pond and explaining them very soon to help out as much as possible.
Hey mate, this was interesting and informative, TY for the link. Also, I wouldn't say these were mistakes, more like learning curves. 😊 Subbed, looking forward to your future projects 🤩🙂
Thanks! I guess techincally only the filter pit was a mistake as all the rest I knew i was going to be doing anyway :') I guess they are more 'things not done by the book'! Thanks for the sub!
i would say large rocks at the bottom but to be honest you could have used a bio falls filter instead no need for all that equipment maybe enlarge wetland filter a little but not by much. I guess its a drum filter I really think people spend too much on filters when nature can do much of this for you... Your underground filter idea may work based on the snorkel aquascape technique but i think the slits in the pipe may be a little narrow. Saying that Im one for giving advice with my surge and box filter system with clear pipe. Theirs no wrong way to do a pond. I love the way youve made your pond stand out. Well done on the subs in such a short time. As for your decking you could create a steal hinge system that will hold the decking up. also a much safer way too. its not too late to build this into your design.
Thanks! Exactly that, fortunately most of these ‘mistakes’ I knew I’d be making before hand so I could put in measures to make the risk as low as possible :)
Am looking at building pond I was going to use a pressurised unit that feeds a bog made from a 300lL preformed just because I've got it but also have huge drum barrel that could use instead...not sure which one to go with the barrel holds more I think but the preformed could have more plants in
@@bobbyknox9258 thanks for watching! In my experience, having done my first suction grid 10 years ago and the bottom still being clean, the waste does make its way through. I do fully get your logic though and if I hadn’t of done so many myself, I would 100% agree with you!
@@KoiBoyUK but is it a case of the crud having to break down in the water column in order for it to get pulled through the slits in the pipe. Anyway the pond looks great 👌
@@bobbyknox9258 yes that’s the only downfall. But at the same time it’s not that different from when a filter catches waste and it’s sitting there for a weeks/months before you clean it. Pros and cons to everything I guess. Thanks for sharing your views on this, it will make for a good video in the future :)
I think the recommended size of bog for that pump is 2 m3 minimum. The slower the better. Absolutely top job. You'll need to train a child to do the maintenance. Lol.
@@dyljackson9839 thanks! I need to add it up properly but I’ll be doing a breakdown on this in the near future, there are many features that could be a lot cheaper and obtain very similar results.
Thanks for sharing. Your pond looks fantastic . I’m interested to learn how the pebbles work long term. 👍

Hi there,
A great video on the mistakes that you made to your pond build i found it interesting keep the video coming mate.

As much as I love a modern koi pond with a window and the like I absolutely love this! Making me re evaluate my next pond build mate. Cracking job

I'm really enjoying your wonderful presentations.
What were you're wood choices for the deck?
Thanks George!
I used yellow balau and lightly painted it it with clear osmo oil

Looks really good. But those slits in the pipework won't take large koi crap. And that's if it gets through the gravel. Ticking time bomb imo

@@KoiBoyUK you really should do a video on pricing! Would love to build something like this. Keep up the video.
My biggest mistakes:
Didn't make sure pond was level.
Should have made shelves to hide liner and use marginal plants.
We all make them, what's important is understanding them and knowing for next time!
