Treating Koi issues... Potential Parasites

Hi love the pond I would do the same thing cover my pond up over the winter looks like aquarium with the water dripping off the roof i see you have stones in the pond does that help in any way? Im in the process of building my pond and i would like to pick your brains in the future for information p*** UV light heater food if thats ok
@@richardfrost1026 hi Richard, yes feel free to pick my brains. If you have telegram my username is KoiBoyuk. The stones in my system aren’t needed as such but they do help with filtration with how they are implemented. In the upcoming pond rebuild videos I will be going over this system in depth
That cat was like, "One day I'll be in here without you..... One day."
mate i cant wait to see the build process over at your dads! 💪🏼 also what drone you used for your shots? Im looking st the dji mini 4k atm 😂 blagging the mrs to treat me 👀
@@NorthernKoi24 that’s the one I have 🙂
@@KoiBoyUKah nice one matey! Whats your thoughts on it then?
I cover the pond and let nature do what it does. They're fine.
What’s up with the koi at the end of the video? Don’t look to good hope all goes well mate
@@JamesTHEKOIwhisperer123 thanks bud, I can’t remember the Japanese name but it’s a type of cancer, it’s had it for a fair few years now. Seems to still be happy though
Just found your videos just subscribed Yorkie Koi great video 📷📷 me old boots 🥾🥾
@@stuartyork9615 thanks! I’ll have a look at your build when I have the chance!
Doesnt this defeat the purpose of having a nice looking pond? No offence but it looks horrible in the garden with the cover. In the wild fish wouldnt have this treatment and survive fine.
No offence taken at all! in terms of looks, the tunnel is only staying on over winter and me and my girlfriend aren't really fussed about how the garden looks over winter. Also, having the polytunnel allows me to spend more time chilling by the pond as it shelters me from the wind and rain. Yes the fish would survive fine but so would we without central heating in our homes! We would however be more unhappy and run a lot higher risk of illness, and in extreme cases, perhaps even death! Thanks for watching :)
Not a very nice comment the guy is trying to keep his fish safe and well we have covers our water down to 5 degrees you spend time and money growing them why wouldn’t you try and keep them safe
I have a 1000W aquarium heater in my 2600 gallon pond heated to 18c and it seems to do a good job. My pond is insulated and covers on top. But I don’t think the outdoor temps here in the States have been as cold as yours. I guess as winter temps gets colder here I’ll see if it can still keep up.
@@susanschonauer8487 that will be interesting to see! Keep me updated!
Great vid pal
You could float a big sheet of polycarbonate on some pool noodles / pipe insulation to reduce the surface area.
@@colindyson8788 thats a good idea! I will keep an eye out to see if I can get any sheets for cheap!
Are you feeding them that 360 food over winter? I’m glad the 500w has been working out. I recently acquired a 1400w aquarium heater from a friend I tried using. The only problem is 64 degrees is the lowest setting it can go down to. It was on constantly so I ended up having to unplug it. Electricity cost is just too high.
Hi Ty, I bought a seperate thermostat with plug sockets in so i can overide the thermostat down to whatever temperature i choose. I am still feeding the 360 but I am feeding them the 'sensitiv' variety which has higher concentration of health promoting oils and lower protein content which are both ideal for over winter :)
@ that makes sense! I have a plug in thermostat made for a space heater I was using before. Maybe I’ll give that a try! Thanks, dude!
Cracking update buddy 🧁👍👍👍
Happy for you mate this work Could you please explain in a video how you do to the heater turn on in the temperature you want and turn off when you don’t want on 😎👌🎏🎏🎏
Hi mate, It is just an external thermostat so you can set it to whatever temperature you like to turn on and off at. Ill do a talk-through in one of my future videos!
@ thank you mate much appreciated 😁🙏
Good work. Looks like all the hard work has paid off
Good video. You can see a heron video on my channel, he didn't get any. Are you sure that PondXpert pump controller on your fence can be kept outdoors? I didn't think they were weather proof and I've never seen one mounted outside before.
Thanks, ill take a look! Now that you mention it, im not too sure 😅 Its currently under a polytunnel throughout winter but I will have to check the manual, thanks for mentioning it!
stunning pond mate
I am happy I do not have to worry about that here. Looks like a lot of work.😀👍
0:12 That KUROGOSHIKI is remarkable for its stunning colouring!
@@atsuminaoki9910 thanks I’m in love with how dark it is!
@@KoiBoyUK Perhaps it is a good match for the hardness of the water there. It is rare to get this level of finish in Japan.
@ a few people have suggested this, even in the uk I have rarely seen a dark Goshiki, so maybe just luck, or maybe it’s my local water company 🤷♂️
Looks good buddy
Nice video like always mate Way I didn’t get the discount code before I done my purchase today 😂😂
Great job on the pond insulation, very interesting talk about the new food sounds like a worthy try when it's more available 👍. Gwen 🧓
Excellent video. Do you have a link for the heater?
Hi, there are plenty of heaters that are very similar in terms of spec and price but this is the one i bought - amzn.to/3AD4U1u This is the sperate thermostat that i connect it too so i can set the temperature to lower than 18c and also see the data on my phone - www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CHRHLRYX?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
Great video again. I am not a big koi guy. I have a few "normal" carp in my pond, but my parents had them when i still lived at home. And they just stopped feeding them when winter started. And now i do the same. Whats your opinion on that method? Again, great videos!
Thanks! There are a lot of different rule of thumbs out there, some say to stop feeding once its below 10c, some say 5c but they are only that, rule of thumbs. A lot of people will let the fish tell them if they are hungry with special emphasise of staying well clear of overfeeding. This is personally my favourite approach.
Great video👏👏👏
Hi there, Another great update on the pond and fish mate the fish food that you use mate. Steve
@@stephenlaming3288 Thanks Steve!
Awesome! That’s going to make a big difference having that air pocket with the second layer. If it’s anything like mine though, it unfortunately won’t reduce the condensation. How many watts is your aquarium heater?
Hi bud its 500W and its in the bio section. Yea since uploading there has been some condensation appear on the 2nd layer but it isn't as much as the single layered part (for now...)
@ well that’s good at least. I’m really curious to see how that heater works out for you. Do you have telegram?
@ yes I have just made a username, @KoiBoyUk

@@tristanbaldauf3770 I’m from the UK 😊
Very good but why 🤔
@@deanmiles8421 to help keep the pond a few c warmer over winter. They’ve been fine every winter so far without a cover but if there’s a cheap way to help the fish avoid the really cold temperatures, I’m all for it 😊
@KoiBoyUK fish are fine, they are cold blooded. My pond freezes over without issue and I've had my fish for 30 years, never a sick fish in all that time. It's natural for fish to shut down and the only way they can do that is for the water temp to drop.
@@deanmiles8421 I agree that I’m sure they will be fine, and I will be letting the temp drop low like they would naturally as I feel it’s important. But this will just keep the very bitter colds away. Plus it means I can enjoy the pond a bit more 😊
That is a stunning setup you have, excellent work mate 🤩🙂
Wow, again it looks fantastic.
Is doing a great job mate 👏👏👏🎏🎏🎏
Seems to be doing the job for you bud 💪 looks good
Just come across this looks great for winter The aquarium heater is a good idea I used one on my sleeper pond with a pollycarb roof last year and didn’t go below 18 so definitely works
Thanks, its working well so far. wow thats good to hear that an aquarium heater worked that well!
To fix the problem You have keeping the heat overnight, is to use a double plastic covering to keep the heat covering at least a 1cm to 2cm in apart. That will insulate, and keep the heat And the cold separate . tahts what i did and it works perfect
Where can you the nutramare 360 from enjoyed the blog

Congratulations to the winner 🥇 I think you done a great job and I hope 🤞 it does what you speciations 😁 I managed last year to keep the water 💦 4 degrees at the coldest days And I hope this year I do it better 😁🤞🤞
500w will not work I try it on my grow on set to 18c never off and is in my filter house ,now on 3kw air sorce far better and cheaper to run ,
@@nippinkoi8924 I’ve had a chat with a few people who claim that 500w works if you’re just trying to keep the water anywhere from 6 to 9°, but we shall see. But you’re right, I will probably end up having to get something more powerful. 😅
There are many people who do that, but you are the only one I have seen who does it clearly
Goodjob
