Do you know if the three year rule for citizenship is absolute? My wife just got her green card this month. But we had to wait 30 months to get it from when we applied for it. She came here through the K1. Or is the time we had to wait credited to us? In other words, can we wait less than three years to apply for citizenship?

Love the advice. I am in the middle of my N400 application. I have been here in the US for 3 years and married to an American. My question is...They are asking for 5 years of travel outside of the US. I lived in Canada before. Do I need to add the 2 years of Travel from Canada to France, even though I was not living in the US and did not travel out of the US during the 3 years I have been here. I have not left the US in 3 years. Thank you, Michael

Question please?: I did not apply for my wife's permanent resident card before the first 7 months upon arrival into JFK. Can we use the date of endorsement of her temporary permanent resident visa, or do we have to wait until the date of the permanent resident card. And what about my step children? Would they be able to apply early with my wife, or would they have to wait the 5 years?

Hello, I just want to ask about my situation, I am a greencard holder right now but I am outside the USA for almost 2 years now because of my studies and I plan to stay in the US again for a year and apply for another re-entry permit for 2 years so that I can finish my studies, Question: does being a permanent resident still counts? Because after I graduated I plan to stay in the US and apply for a citizenship, the requirements I saw would be, I must be a permanent resident (greencard holder) for 5 years and I have to be physically living for 2.5 years in the USA, right now my greencard would be almost 3 years, but I need to go back to my home country to finish my studies after applying for a 2nd re entry permit what I want to know if being a permanent resident or green card holder I have to be physically present in the US for 5 years also? Or the counting for 5 years of my greencard is still valid even though im outside US.

I think you'd need to apply for the actual permanent residency 90 days prior your conditional gc expires because you need to be at least a gc holder (conditional or permanent) for at least 3 years before you're qualified for citizenship.
