While a boat of this kind is only for the high end, it is cool to see the electric concept being realized. Having a boat where the only limiting factor to range is the amount of food and booze on board is amazing.
My fantasy is to homestead one of these, where one hull is the 'farm'. Hydroponics, freeze dryers, dehydrators, and freezers. Fish, spear, trap for meat. Brew/ferment some booze. Really stretch time between ports.
@@TeachMeTheGuitar I have a 40’ sailing cat for sale, 21’ beam, 3kw solar, 2160ah lithium batteries, watermaker, in North Carolina for $220k. The dream is easily attainable.
Having Silent yacht's pay each owner $10,000-20,000 per couple so they could have customers live on one for a weekend. So not really chartering but commission sharing. put 2 sets of couples per weekend and doing this would allow others to truly experience the boat and all of it's greatness. During that weekend you would have a 3 crew also to drive, clean and cook. Something like that.
Thank you for addressing lithium batteries catching fire and these lithium ion batteries being next gen from those and properly installed and monitored.
@@OwenfromKC, also worth mentioning that both chemistries are quite a bit less a fire risk than diesel and especially gasoline. So, while lithium iron is even safer than lithium ion, neither is a real concern relative to existing fossil fuel systems that we are all used to.
@@OwenfromKC LFP batteries are also lithium ion. You are thinking of NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) lithium ion batteries. They are the same general idea but with materials used. They both contain lithium.
I suggest if they are adding 180kw of battery for electric motors it would only show 140kw. leaving 5% on bottom and 15% on top end not used unless emergency. Those areas are where most battery damage happens. Same for house banks. Also have a anchor setting for batteries/dock setting that only charges to 80% unless there are really hot days. Also a storage mode where the boat only charges to 60% as it is not being used. These setting will extend the life of batteries big time.
Lithium is much more robust than that, I run my home batteries hard and they have lost little to no battery health. Also in five years there will be many ch better options so keeping everything modular is smart for retrofitting newer technology.
@@casperyourfriendlyghost7552 See you want 20 plus years from your batteries. Look at how fast EV batteries drop to 60%. Its the charging to 100%. Great vessel and great video. Only one thing that is not good is music. I t getting so loud some times that I can barely understand the talking... Please make it quiter next time.
From the point of view of the high tech I am missing new kinds of solar panels like perovskite, where is wind turbine as additional way to harvest energy, where are the new batteries like solid state with much more capacity, ...
Before covid, the first 55ft model was around 2.5 million usd. In 2024 with inflation and redesigning to 60ft, now, asking price is around 4 million. Now there's a 62ft model that's going to be the base model.
I ordered one 3 deck 62 late 2021 fully kitted for 3.2m but then they went bankrupt and the new company will not honor my payments despite them having my hull and components. Now they are suggesting I buy a new one from them for somewhere in the region of 4-4.8m for the same boat. Crooks!
Something like this... ua-cam.com/video/lq4HHreKicI/v-deo.html It's an automated system that flies a kite to help propel the boat over long passages. It basically makes it into a sort of sail boat hybrid.
Nice Yacht but I don't like the glass shower. You can see the toilet thru the shower. I don't want to see my wife or lady friend on the toilet, nor do I want to be seen on the toilet.

It would be cool if they can do some sort of mechanical bifold system to double the rooftop solar when anchored.

what are you doing to make it happen?
@@JoshHockman Stack rental houses until i have equity to risk on boat, then probably rent the boat as well. May realize a sliver of the fantasy.

They are lithium iron.
Extremely safe & charges happily to 100%
Lithium Ion and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo) are 2 different chemistrys. The Ion is the one that explodes.

For a boat that size and only have a 6 hour range , is a hard pill to swallow especially for the cost. Buuuutt extremely cool boat.
It's only a 6 hour range on electric, with the generator usage you can go much longer and farther (though you have to take in to count fuel then)
Wonder if they checked into a dagger board type setup for the kite? And if the structuring auditions they do for the kite will handle a larger kite
probably far more than 6 hours if you don't go flat out full speed...
on the roof, we should have 4x more solar panel (foldable)... we could get a big shade for a BBQ when snorkling for example.

Probably iron based chemistry.
They don’t mind charging to 100% every day.

Other than the wind turbine which is has trade offs that make it minimally effective the others aren’t commercially viable yet.
If you compare SY with Sunreef Eco line up, you find out that SY is overhyped.
Does it have stabilization?
It does not have Stabilizers, as that is typically not needed or used in a Catamaran. If you need more details, please reach out. Cheers.
I’m hoping to get one someday. Add a kite sail for longer passages and away I’d go!
