This demo has had so many singers, it started life a very long time ago with the fantastic Rory Dodd it was also a demo for Steinman’s girl group Pandaroras Box but didn’t make it to the album, then it made its way to the Everly Brothers. ( my guess would be before Bat 2 came out as the tune is Frying pan )
Finally the song lyric is used by Steinman when he writes Whistle down the wind, ALW then writes the music, in an attempt to make musicals more accessible “pop” acts are brought in to make an album Pop/Hybrid of the musicals songs, where the Everly Brothers appear singing “Cold” - Mr Loaf then sings the musical version this title track.
A Kiss is a Terrible Thing to waste, and in the Steinman universe so is a good song lyric :) RIP The Great Man.

Very different from the Whistle Down The Wind and Meat Loaf versions:
"The two songs with this title share only a few words and no music in common, with the Everly Brothers version containing musical motifs recycled from the Steinman song "Out of the Frying Pan (And Into the Fire)"."

Sung in 1987, released in 2005, not actually the "Whistle Down The Wind" version (note the image in the video credits Meat Loaf).
    According to mljs.evilnickname.org/jimsteinman/songs/everlybrothers-akissisaterriblethingtowaste.html :
"After eighteen years, 2005 saw the first ever release of the Everly Brother’s version of “A Kiss Is a Terrible Thing to Waste” on the compilation On The Wings Of A Nightingale: The Mercury Studio Recordings (HIP-O-Select / Island Def Jam / Mercury Records). The song was recorded in 1987 during the sessions for “Some Hearts”, their final album, which was released in 1989.
Although the liner notes of the compilation ... state that this version of “A Kiss…” is co-written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, I feel that it’s safe to assume that they made an error on that account. No further information is available at the moment.
The album session also produced an unreleased performance of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Jim Steinman composition “A Kiss…” The song would subsequently be featured in the Webber/Steinman stage musical Whistle Down The Wind; the Everly’s version finally sees the light of day on this collection."

This song is NOT the song co-written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and it's NOT from "Whistle down the wind. It's another song with the same title.

The Everly Brothers recorded 3 albums in the 1980s: “EB’84”, “Born Yesterday”, and “Some Hearts”. “EB’84” contains a song that Paul McCartney wrote for them: “On The Wings of a Nightingale”. They’re all wonderful albums.

@Anjelica Snorcket Yes, the one that Meat Loaf (may he rest in peace) sang is his cover of the Whistle Down the Wind song. The WDTW version is much longer because parts of the story are woven into it but the substance is identical... including the Tire Tracks and Broken Hearts section.
I'm one of the few people on the planet who saw the musical in its West End run and absolutely loved it.
