Rust-Oleum red oxide primer was actually what GM used on its production Chevrolets in the fifties, the underside of these cars were never painted the body color at the factory, they were red oxide primer. Rust-oleum, paint it once and forget it...great product.
Nice to see someone changing the fan pattern orientation to spray vertical for once! Usually see people leaving it alone and leaning the gun sideways trying to spray vertical surfaces. Kuddos to you sir!
The music you use for background makes your vids very relaxing 😎 to watch. Kudos to you for not using foul language too.
This is enjoyable to watch and listen to 😎

Amazing! I am not sure if you intended for your videos to be motivational tools. When I watch videos like the one you just did with that outstanding paint job, I can't help but feel motivated to get out there and do something, Anything. This video is like a great cup of coffee in the morning. Some people (like me) can't get going without it. Great job.
Let's get motivated! ☕😉👍
Those are powerful word @Ruby Flores! 👍
Great work! I agree, gets me motivated! Keep it up man!
I went to price some automotive black paint he said $ 80.00 buck's for a pint of paint. Heck I bought some RUST OLUM black for $8.00 to paint my dash and the paint still looks good ten year's ago.
Turned out nice GT. Primer is uniform now that it began to cure. Ill be there tomorrow just in case u want to continue working on your project.
Yea, it turned out really nice. Should be easier to spray the black
On the drip rails use really good seam sealer or water or moister will get in there. Washed my 79 chevy that I started working on it slowly last yr. the body work is not so good but its held up it was called the holey truck way 2 many holes( I brushed on my primer but its help up ) still need to get it started its been a few yrs. since its run. Bueno sir looking forward to the next video thanks RF.
Great tip, seam sealer is very import!
Glad to see him using a quality respirator so some clear coat over it and you have yourself a nice rat rod
I used that primer on some old farm equipment after I took it down to bare metal. The only downside is, your not going to be able to weld through it when you get around to repairing the metal. You'll need to use a wire wheel or something to get it off.
Cant weld through the primer?
A good tip for pouring anything is have the opening on top it will let the air in without glugging. Looking so nice. A lot of metal work on the bottom side. Are you going to unbolt the cab and lay it back on the frame? Much easier than laying on your back and will be able to get to the top of the frame
Hey trick1. Yea, I'm hoping I can unbolt the cab and move it with a bit of team effort. Everything is coming along great. Just need to clean the frame and add some por 15, then start building back up.
Some panels will be fixed later on, but the closest thing to do right now is check the engine so I can just rip everything out.
@qqtrick1qq how do you do this trick with a metal can? I've been trying to figure it out, I ended up turning the can on it's side. I left the lid off my Acetone once to come back a week later and almost half of it had evaporated😲

Love yr painting vids very talented and inspirational. Gonna shoot my 68 camaro rusty metal primer
Nice work! Good job and it's all even coat! I've used Rust-Oleum like this for years, no problems! Great work! Keep it up!!!
Thanks for sharing your videos. Looks good laid out smooth. Music was cool too! Keep em coming man!!!
Wow that turned out great
Hey man, when u pour from the square gallon jugs try pouring with the hole on the high end when its tilted.
ahh C-10 one of my favorites keep on keeping on going to look sweet
Always enjoy your videos.
Thank you brother 😎👍
Is the Rustoleum Rusty Metal primer considered a red oxide paint? How much did you thin it and what pressure are you using?
Nice job my friend!!!
Looking good so far brother cant wait till she's on the road good job
I'm curious about body work that hasn't been completed yet are you planning on doing that or are you going to leave it kind of like a Resto Rod type look just curious because you're putting an awful lot of work into it and I'm wondering what you're trying to accomplish
Looks better already just primerd out! Going to be sick.
Yes, it really does. Sun looks to be coming out early this morning, so hopefully it gives me a chance to spray the black
So is it fine to not use paint over the primer? Can the rust oleum primer be the top coat also? Thanks for your time.
Seam sealer all body joints and spray another coat. Last for years after that. Save that body metal at all cost!
Yes bro let’s spray
Yea man good. Nice techniques
Nice paint, what ratio did you use with acetone for primer and base coat?
What should I use as a clear coat if I want to keep this primer as my color?
Nice look this is my favorite work
Great video
Nice!
Patina is cute and all but i appreciate a slick paint job. Good work as always. Hope all is well
What colour are you going to paint this truck please comment back thank you for this video
Hey man, nice of you to vid this. Wondering for the effort of time and money. Send the cab to your local blaster (glass) or Acid dip. Glass bead blasting is pretty affordable now a days. Then pick up some Pic LIC 20 industrial rust inhibitor from Alabama. You can cut, weld etc.. on that stuff and it'll last for atleast a year plus. You can next move to cutting out the rust, clean hidden rust, then weld patch panels in. I mean great work but think about your process and budget. If you need to save, then save a little to move to the next step. You're on your way. Thanks for sharing I also specialize in building 1st Gen C10's 😊
What grit would you sand that primer down before paint?
Grade A work homie! Love how you put this video together and how the truck is turning out! Did you find some replacement rocker panels?
Thanks bro! I found the panels online, just haven't got around to buying them yet. Instead I got a few more cans of primer and black paint for the cab and bed.
I sanded the primer down, but its cloudy, windy and cold.. so no painting today. Maybe I'll just disassemble the engine 🤷♂️
@@GTsPerformance You better be getting that nursery ready 😂... Sound sgood man, I'll be watching for more content!👍
Ok so you sprayed it ???
How does it hold up to real primer ??
I just don't think it will work under good paints....
did you spray automotive paint over the RO primer? how did it hold?
Be carefull with acetone where gloves it causes cancer. Just wantes to ler you know ps nice truck
U goin hrd
GOOD 👍❤
Every video I've seen using this primer is painted over with black. Does anyone know if I should do a white or grey primer on top of this primer if my base color is ford blue? Will the brown show through or change the blue?
I think I missed something. Why did you spray paint over all that rust. How will you ever find it again to sandblast it all off?
he’ll find it once it bubbles to the surface. lol.
✌ 👍 😎
Excelente trabajo y proyecto. Y buen vídeo saludos.😃✌️
Muchisimas gracias! Saludos✌
Muito bom,tenho uma C10 69. Brasil.
Obrigado
Nice job
Why wasn't the rust holes fixed
My only question would be Upoll primer surfacer costs 60 bucks a gallon with activator. Is this product more cost effective.Or is it just used on ur personal truck.
This is actually my first time trying the rustoleum primer. And since my plans were just a "simple paintjob", because plans were.. leave the rust body, worry about engine, trans and suspension. I decided to go this route.
Ive played around with automotive primers, base coat paints, and candy.. but I've had good results with rustoleum. And yes, mostly all the work I do is on my own cars.
2:23...homie brought out the all mighty “Esoba”!
You know you want to flock that dash, right? 😋
😅 was thinking more like a very glossy, black smoke candy on the dash and headlight grille,..
@@GTsPerformance That would look awesome!
@@GTsPerformance The only downfall will be sun reflection, that's why they are a flat or mat finish.
@QQTrick1QQ The dash on my 01 is gloss black and there's hardly any reflection. Must be the angle. Hope it all works out, if not.. at least it'll look good 😋😄
@@QQTrick1QQ Dashmat may help?
What size of compressor do you have?
What gun are you using?
Let's paint over rust and rot with a rust color so you can't tell when the rust shows thru a day later perfect idea...🤣
Looks amazing bruh. Saludos from 3 Rivers Tx. 🙋♂️
Yea, its definitely coming along! 👌
@@GTsPerformance Can you paint a car for me ?? Blonby1970@yahoo.com
Can I use thinner instead of asiton
Buen video. Que pistola estas usando?
Es la de Lowes www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-8-in-Air-Paint-Sprayer/1000804184
What ratio do you mix rust oleum with on paint cup
reduce rustoleum on a 2:1 ratio..
12oz rustoleum, plus 6oz acetone!
I need a new roof skin for my 60 c20
Hey I need my truck painted!
Have you tried adding a hardner to the primer?
Why? The primer has to then be sanded down for the next phase in spray painting and that is the color he's going to paint the truck with.
Lost me at rattle can and then seeing him paint over rust
Why go through all this before finishing the body work ????????????
I wasn't doing bodywork! I was spraying primer/ paint to store it till I was ready for it.
Not being a hater, but why go through all that work and leave the rockers rotted out?
No worries. I understand this might be the first video you've seen, but I'll fill you in.
My original plans for this truck were,.. Do an ls swap, have good breaks and air suspension, and leave the rust bucket over. Like a sleeper.
Sure, I'll come back and repair some panels later on. But I just wanted to get some of the painting done before my baby got here.
@@GTsPerformance ah. That makes a lot of sense. I do love a good rat rod! In that case you picked a great color for the primer! I subbed to your channel so I can check out some other videos.
Thanks brother! Ive got lots of videos in my channel,. Lots of projects ive been working on.
We'll be back in a few days. My baby girl was just born this morning, so taking a bit of family time.
@@GTsPerformance I have a 62 to build. I have a 86 front crossmember...disc brake and power steering and a little more weight to keep it on the ground with a Jag IRS 3.00 ratio rear. Have you given that any thought with up grading the front end?
Has Rust-Oleum sponsored you yet?
I don't think they do that 😅
What ratio did you use?
reduce rustoleum on a 2:1 ratio..
12oz rustoleum, plus 6oz acetone!
Priming and not repaired rust? Don't get it.
I wasn't financially ready to begin a project from start to finish, so instead I sprayed a few layers of paint to stop the rust till I am ready to continue.
Rustoleum primer will not work under good paint
I heard you can dalut it with Windex or window wash I don't know how true that is?
Sheesh alot of water ,🤔🤔
También lo deben de poner en español
What was the mix ratio
I reduce rustoleum on a 2:1 ratio..
12oz rustoleum, plus 6oz acetone!
@@GTsPerformance is mineral spirits any good cause it’s say mix with it and if so do u think the same ratio
Dude you start with the roof and come down ...
Painting over a rusty ass truck, wow....
Why not use real automotive primer what's up with all these UA-camrs using this system smfh
Look at the cost savings. It is good paint, but needs clear to last long.
I paint cars for a living and cringe Everytime I see this, yes u save a few bucks not much there is good cheap products out there but on a. Truck like this I would do it right
Sorry, I don't want to sound like a jerk.. but every time I hear someone say they've been painting for 30+ years, blah blah blah. I just ignore the comments. If you can't step out of your comfort zone, then you're no professional to be giving anyone advice! Best thing to do is to just let them experience it for themselves.
As for me, I like the rustoleum paint! And if someone is interested in trying it for themselves, of course I'll share my experiences and tips. Not try bring them down for not going with "real paint".
@@GTsPerformance guess you never had to deal with shit paint when trying to re paint a car that's where our comments come from because we have had to deal with bullshit like this because someone wants to paint a with paint that isnt meant for a vehicle
@@GTsPerformance You noting wrong he is just another UA-cam jerk!
Gts poor performance.
looks good how much air pressure did you use in the gun? thanx
