- The new Forester and the smaller XV Crossover will have mild-hybrid technology - as part of the company's move to electric.
Both e-Boxer models, with their horizontally opposed powertrains, have a 2-litre (150) petrol engine and are boosted by the motor-assist technology.
Mild-hybrid technology boosts the engine when needed and can deputise for it over short spells.
Both cars have all-wheel-drive (AWD) as standard.
The Forester e-Boxer is new, the XV is not - apart from becoming a mild hybrid model. The Forester has a new platform and better driving dynamics. The level of technology is high: facial recognition, new X-Mode and reverse automatic braking.
Both are due for sale in November. The Forester kicks off from €44,495 for SE models. Prices for the XV e-Boxer start from €38,945.
The system uses a Lineartronic transmission that integrates an electric motor, powered by lithium ion battery, DC/DC converter and electric motor inverter.
The Forester felt comfortable and spacious if a little slow to respond (but the stepped CVT transmission didn't generate much 'boom') on my brief drive.
There are three driving modes: Engine, EV and Motor Assist. And there is also SI-Drive which lets you choose between 'Intelligent' and 'Sport' modes.
The 2-litre 150bhp horizontally opposed 4cyl has 80pc new components and is up to 11pc more efficient. From starting off, or at low speeds, the electric motor alone can power the car for around 1.6km. Above that, engine and motor combine and at high speed the engine takes over completely while charging the battery as well.
Safety technologies (standard) include EyeSight Driver Assist and Driver Monitoring System. The latter alerts you of fatigue or distraction. It also automatically adjusts driver settings for seat position, door mirror angles, and air-con preferences. Smart.
An important element too is the Reverse Automatic Braking function which helps avoid collisions.
Overall Forester width is up 20mm, the wheelbase is stretched 30mm, and there is 220mm of ground clearance for off-tarmac driving. It has a towing capacity of 1,870kgs.
There is also an SE Premium version (€48,195, 18ins alloys, sunroof, leather seats, sat nav, electric tailgate, heated rear seats).
The XV e-Boxer has the same 2-litre petrol engine and 'hybrid' set-up and many of the safety/comfort elements outlined.
The €38,495 SE model has 17ins alloys, electric/heated driver's seat, dual zone air-con, etc.
For €41,495, SE Premium adds sunroof, sat nav, etc.

The vehicle is driving on 3 wheels up and down vertical slopes and hood deep in water and occasionally sideways and some people are like " tHiS iSnT OfFrOaD!". Yes it is, Karen, you don't experience that driving to Walmart.

Сергей Кузьмин вы тоже здесь живете? Это не так! SUV превалирует, да, здесь есть Trucks, но учитывайте что в каждой семье по 2-3 машины минимум. А Субару видно везде, это самая популярная машина в нашем штате.

no this is not off road and anything more it wouldn't be rock crawling. i love Subaru, i experienced how capable x-mode is but anything in this video is not issue for any 4x2 1.2L atmospheric gasoline sedan even.

I had a forester 2001 stick shift and I loved her strength and hard boby. Now I have a 2012 which I thought would be better and improved...but it's more of plastic, the bonnet very light. Friends keep in mind that most African roads are bad they need a hard body car than your plastic...or we shall resort to defender 110

Couldn’t agree more. The vehicle in this demo is simply making mud pies under the backyard swing set. If they’re serious - and they should be about taking over-landing to a new level (because their reputation for quality and durability tells them they could) - they need to produce this form factor in a Land Cruiser reliability/longevity envelope: hybrid (or not), go anywhere bad road goes (in any country), climb and descend things that would be difficult for people (even goats) to walk on, do it in reasonable comfort for 300K miles (with only routine maintenance) and where any required mechanical work could be done by a reasonably adept Afghan mechanic. Then they’d really own the next world. I’d buy one tomorrow. And folks like me (more than you could imagine) are willing to pay up for quality and proven reliability. Well, what the @#%&! are you waiting for?! (Oh, yeah, don’t forget the MaDuce pintel.)

Poor ground clearance ! Don't even say its any better off road just another urban toy for the highway
Bisaso Hussein it has 8.8” of ground clearance, similar to a Jeep Cherokee. Granted it doesn’t have high and low range and a true 4WD system like the Jeep but ground clearance isn’t an issue. I think most people buying a Subaru are more concerned with its ability to handle poor weather conditions, fuel mileage, and safety features, than “off roading”...
The closeup shots near the end were nice. I am pleasantly surprised there is an eboxer version of Forester, because I was thinking about Prius e-awd and Rav4 Hybrid. But this eboxer sounds excellent, since the awd will be fulltime, and because it’s Subaru. Thanks for the video. Would’ve been nice if there were some facts available, like mileage, price, release date, etc. Thank you for the video!

Very good AWD. The rest of the vehicle....subarBOO needs to focus less on going "electric" and more on quality. Had a 2015 2.5 forester and worst vehicle ever had. Oil burning, other quality issues - and the dealer could not figure out (ever) why it was literally bucking and lurching while running (a "second-hand" shop eventually figured it was an O2 sensor - you guessed it - coated in burnt oil). I tell people I like not to ever buy subaru. I tell people I don't like to buy subaru.....
For Heavens sake subaru, stop serving this nonsense crap, if you intent to manufacture something to it right or don’t bother. waste of time money energy and most important subaru do us a favour and save earth resources if you trying to be “GREEN” this will be more eco friendly then bringing such crap to a public

This is not an "off-road", it is everyday driving on smooth gravel roads.

actually almost any car to do that, not a good test. My old Honda civic can do all that off roading no probs and its FF.
I like seeing that it's doing it but I would have like some vocal feedback on how the driver felt if he or she thought that it was to much for it how rough the ride what the general kind of info people want to know
i have no experience driving a subaru. how about its reliability compare to other japanese brands such as toyota and honda?
You can easily do this on Suzuki Alto or some other simple car... Show us the Subaru in deep snow or mud...
Looks great, the additional torque, eyesight, X-mode etc. But I think it will be a lot of money to trade in my 2017 diesel Forester. Oh well, we can only dream!
Don't forget the unreliable CVT transmission. (Yes, that is a double term for transmission since the "T" in CVT means transmission).

@@helok9 The CVT is probably the second worst thing to happen in the automotive world. That combined with skirtless pistons makes for a drivetrain that just won't last.
