This felt purposely or accidentally, slanted for an overall view, like msm is doing with the uvalde tragedy.
It’s all a sad shame, it’s easy for an outsider to gain poor perspective, I just hope everyone does their diligence and independent research before emotions drive legislation.

Uvalde police active shooter training documents from a week prior explicitly state something along the lines of “you may have to enter alone without back up in the face of grave peril.” The badge is shaped like a shield because it is symbolic of the core of what any police should be for their community. I’m not wishing death on police, nor am I advocating for reckless activity that endangers life. But you hear gunshots in a school and you don’t go in - honestly I have no words.

TBF, this was always the case with police officers. I guess you would be surprised to hear that this is a common occurrence with mass shootings, everything from the sandy hook shooting, to the Vegas shooting. Our police are trained internally to not put themselves in harm and to protect each other, not civilians (since they are trained to think every civilian is a combatant). It's only PR that puts out things like "protect and serve", and "Police officers know that each time they put on their uniform, they are taking on risks to protect others". Those quotes are the furthest thing from the truth. They have been taken to supreme court 4 times over the past decade over those quotes and the courts found that police are not responsible for the safety and protection of citizens. Police exist to protect property and high value individuals only.

The people there are holding a fashion show showcasing clothing that can make it easier for people, especially women, to carry and protect themselves and loved ones with firearms. Just because there was a "tragedy" does not mean that people aren't allowed to have fun. People still went out for ice cream the day after 9/11, but you don't complain about them.
Your willingness to criticise people for enjoying themselves is not rational as you are targeting them just because of the context around their actions, which do not directly influence their own lives. You stated this, "highlights the disconnect you can have from a situation when you're not directly involved or effected by it", but there is no connection in the first place! Your own desire to connect two unrelated events in one that fits your preconceptions is not the way to find the solution. Many people of the NRA, such as myself (I do not live in the USA, but pay to protect others' rights), believe that you are taking the wrong approach to the issue.
If one of the teachers involved was utilizing the articles of clothing showcased at the convention, he/she may have been more prepared to protect him/herself.
I am not stating that it is imperative for a teacher to fight back, but having a firearm gives more options to the individuals if an emergency occurs. The assaulter had an easier time at injuring innocent people because there was little or no resistance from victims and law enforcement.
      TL;DR:
      1. You are criticising people unfairly due to your bias.
      2. There is no direct connection between the convention and criminal attack in Texas.
      3. The fashion show showcases ways that the attack, and future attacks, could be prevented or stopped.
