I just did a search on UA-cam for the tuning on this song because my band is going to be playing it. I recognized you immediately from The Edge. I grew up in Marin and still live here. Going to see The Edge was always a blast!! Such great memories!! I probably saw you guys 20 times. The 80's were so fun being in Bay. -Dan
The way you noodle while you talk and teach remindes me dearly of my father. It's a hallmark of a great entertainer. Also, I've never heard this tuning. It may be easier to work into sets in this arrangement. Cheers
I love punk, disco, classic, new wave you name it, but I was always more of a hard rock and metal at heart person. That said this song kind of wells me up a little it's so beautiful and soulful. I love this explanation of the song. Great video.
Thank you, I really like this arrangement for the acoustic. It sounds wonderful! 😊It is a stretch for my fingers however, so I tuned the 'G' string up to an 'A' so now I can get a clean grip on the high 'e' note and 'a' note you do in the beginning. The 'A' chord is a little easier too (I don't have to press down on the g string since it already is an A) But the interesting G chord you do does change its sound a little because of not having an open G string anymore. So I press the 3rd string on the 5th fret to have another 'D'(since it is now a D) instead of having to reach down with my pinky to make a 'D' on the second string. Then I can mute the 'B' string if necessary with my pinky but I think it sounds ok with the open 'B'
The Police were signed to A&M not IRS but were managed and booked by Stewart’s 2 brothers, Miles who started IRS records and Ian with the FBI booking agency; the Copeland brother’s father was an OSS agent and then an early member of the CIA (I’m pretty sure the boys had a company at one point named CCCP… get it? Look up that reference kids). The record company IRS was a prolific signer of great bands.
This way is better live. It still sounds good. Im sure the guy has done fine, like many of us, without your attitude lol. You cant stop to return your whole guitar during the set dude
It IS in D. Try learning it. The tuning technically is DADAAD. Get a clue. This particular tuning here helps to not have to bring one more extra guitar for 1 song. Sheesh. It helps to learn it this way so ya can still play it in the set without stopping and the extra the bs.

It was tuned in D A D A A D.
Thanks for this. Great lesson. Btw, loads of bands were on IRS -- R.E.M., The GoGos, The Bangles, The Alarm, Wall of Voodoo, etc.
This guy has jammed with Bob Weir, who cares.

We may be playing more in the Bay Area after this year. Come on down when we do.

Tuning is DADAAD on acoustic I tune a whole step down and use capo at the second fret.
The 3 chords used are easier than the way you are playing it
Well it sounds correct and that's all that matters. I'm not gonna buy a cappo to play this song. I would rather learn it the hard way anyway.
@@SuperGregrrIt doesn’t sound correct.

Sounds like an Edge song! 🎸
Groovy!
Absolutely wrong. Not even tuned correctly.
It's not in Drop D. If you want to make money at this sort out your horrific sound and play things properly.
