    Alternatively, Type = in a box, go to the functions box and select T-Test. Input array 1, array 2 (have array 2 as the hypothetical mean eg 20 and 20 as in this case), select EITHER one or 2 tailed depending on what you want, then select type 3 (unequal variance). I've validated this against Graphpad's free online 1-sample t-test calculator. It works.

    Hello please i happen to have my tstat < t critical and p < a
    Do i happen to chose p < a to reject the data or i have be uncertain 🎉

    • @joshemman
      @joshemman  11 місяців тому +1

      You must reject Ho if p-value is less than alpha.

    • @gerheart33
      @gerheart33 11 місяців тому

      Thank you soo much
      Now i know my focus should be on alpha and p more than t stats and t critical

  • @80122
    @80122 5 років тому

    Attention: 1) if you set an individual hypothesized mean difference you define the H0 not the HA: In short you want to reach p=0.5 onetailed & p=1 twotailed here (like common in the Levene or Kolmogorov-Smirnoff Test) and not 0.000something . 2) The range for the first variable must always contain the variable with the higher mean value, the range for the second variable must always contain the variable with the lower mean value. (This is because it cannot be smaller than ≤0, also known as undirected (blind) tests, thus not negative ) 3) the p value will be nearly near 0 in every case if you fail to suggest a very precise hypothesized difference. Thus as a stand alone this (p value) proves absolutely nothing. 4) The greater or smaller tendency results out of the sign for the t-statistic. For instance in the example of this video: if you type in 20 the t-statistic is positive, therefore your suggested difference was too low, if you type in 40 the t-statistic is negative and your suggested difference too high. 5) That is all you need to watch out for, also valid for 2 group comparisons. which could theoretically be the basis of saying it its significantly higher about xx.xx. But much fun in finding the correct value if ever prominent.

    Hi Joshua, can you explain a bit why you need the input two 0 value as dummy? What's the purpose of it?

    • @joshemman
      @joshemman  6 місяців тому

      We are using a 2-variable package to solve a 1-variable problem. Since the second variable doesn’t really exist, we must create it in a way that it does not affect our one-variable results. If you enter only one zero, Excel will return error because it cannot compute the variance of a single value. This is why you need at least 2 zeros. You can use as many zeros as you want in the second variable.

    Hello Joshua, thank you very much for your videos. It is helpful.
    I have one question here.
    On you videos how to conduct z test on excel, you mentioned we need to put at least 1 zero. But here, you said we need at least 2 dummy 0.
    My question is, does it really matter whether we put 1/ 2 dummy?
    Or it needs to be 1 dummy zero for T-test with 1 sample
    and 2 dummy zero when applying Z test
    Thank you

    • @rxmth9242
      @rxmth9242 2 роки тому

      For one sample t test, at least two zeroes are needed, otherwise you will get a DIV/0 error in Excel. For one sample t-test, at least one zero. It is suggested that 0 would be the dummy values to make the usage of Data Analysis Toolpak possible. It makes the test value formula for two sample z or t test become analogous to the z or t test value formula for one sample.
