"Your bass cab is basically a high pass filter" - I had never thought of that. What a fantastic analogy! Great video, as always!
The funny thing is that if you add a HPF before hitting your cab, most speakers will perform even better
@@IvanBassist I have a preamp/HPF that I use with my upright. DEFINITELY helps my cabs perform better, and helps to reduce some feedback.
Hey I needed this, I’m young but when it comes to technology I’m a grandpa
Happy to help!
Thank you so much for this detailed walkthrough. This is amazing!!
Thanks for watching! Glad to hear the video was helpful!
Dude!! I watched the whole thing I never do this!! I am doing this !! Thank you so much!
Happy to help! Thanks for watching!
@@IvanBassistwith my 5 day vacation I’m practicing this now removing the bad from
The track
The same moment you stopped to sip the coffee, I was drinking mine too! Lol great video man, thank you
Haha gotta have that coffee 🤣 thanks for watching!
Fantastic! You definitely know what’s up. My head is totally spinning!
Glad to hear the video was helpful, Kevin!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Ivan! I'm just getting into home recording and stuff like this is invaluable!
Happy to help! Thanks for watching!
I got to try this
Amazing Video Man!!! This helped so much!
Glad to hear that!
Gracias, hermano!!! Siempre había utilizado Logic para grabarme, pero nunca quedaba contento con el resultado. Súper útil tu video. Eres un capo!! Saludos desde Perú!!
Saludos 🙌🏽
Bro thank you so much for this !! I just got into recording with a daw (first time) , and this video was awesome to see what you did to the track- I’m sure this will help me a lot when I get more familiar with Studio One 😊
Glad to hear that!
Love this, dude. I'm working on this setup, the interface and the DAW specifically, so I can do more covers and have them sound slightly better than awful :D
Thanks for watching! Which interface do you want to get?
@@IvanBassist yo! I'm considering going the affordable route with the interface - maybe the Scarlet gen 3 or the SSL 2+
At first I thought I'd be able to do some small EQing in garage band and that'd be it, but the more I think about it I think it would be best to purchase logic. Seems like the stock plugins are worth it.
I'm curious about the video portion of this process now. Maybe I could suggest that as a future video for you! I.e. once I've got the audio sounding nice, how can I line it up with my video? If it's just one camera angle, no effects or editing, is iMovie sufficient?
Yes, you can just use iMovie. It’s easier if you either pop or slap a note before the backing track starts to generate a clear transient that is picked by the camera and your recording. Then you have a clear visual guide to sync both files
super helpful... thanks alot !
Glad it was helpful!
Hey! Great video! Thank you so much!
Glad to hear that it helped! Thanks for watching!
Helped me a lot! Thank you man
Glad to hear that!
Good job! Well done. thx.
Thanks for watching!
thank you~ ^^
Thanks for watching!
Your videos don’t really get dislikes, keep it up
Thanks 🙌🏽
Just wanted to say I really like your videos Ivan! They've taught me a lot, especially about production, and they're top notch in quality. But one thing I'd like to ask is about pre-amps and cab sims. In previous videos you've talked about how they shape the sound of a track. Is it fair to say they effectively are like EQ presets? Since you said something like a cab sim will cut out certain frequencies above and below a certain point as compared to a sterile DI signal. And if that's true, can you recreate the sound of a pre-amp and cab sim just by using an EQ-plug in?
I forgot to mention using a compressor with the EQ as well!
Thank you, Samuel! I’m glad the videos are helping 🙌🏽
Yes, you could definitely say that using a different cabinet or cab sim is like using an “eq-preset”. They definitely change the tone right away.
In theory, you could recreate the tone of a cab using a fully parametric EQ plugin, but it will probably take A LOT of work, because cabinet have different bumps or dips in different frequencies and that is not counting the microphone that you would put in front of the cab, which also changes the tone
What do you mean? 😊
@@IvanBassist I wasnt sure if Pre-amps/ cabs applied some kind of compression to the signal. If not then nvm haha. Thanks for replying though!
Hola Ivan!! Perfecto bro!!
Me haz quitado dudas cuando grabo! Recomiendas algunos plug ins gratis? Tengo un interfaz Focusrite 4i4 y Reaper como DAW.
Saludos!!
Hola Carlos! La verdad es que todos los plugins que uso y he usado son pagados, menos los que vienen instalados con Logic X.
@@IvanBassist Gracias bro! he descargado unos cuantos gratis y son buenos. Pero creo que llego el momento de comprarme unos. Que me recomendarias y que marca? Saludos bro!
I have a razer mini mic or whatever its called and i use that to record LOL
Moises charges a monthly fee, but its a great app for removing any instrument or vocal from a track if you are looking to record play/sing along tracks for UA-cam.
Really cool video. Okay, so I'm just starting to get into this stuff. Maybe a dumb question; where do you get the backing track from? Have a good day!
Hey Josh! Well, the easiest way would be to buy the music from the artist.
There are other ways like youtube to mp3 downloaders, but supporting the artists would be the ideal way.
Hope this helps!
@@IvanBassist Yes, that was helpful. Thank you, Ivan! 👍
@@joshfromholland9077 happy to help!
Again, this was great. Question about the limiter: I thought I understood a limiter to be one of the two functions of a compressor. I thought a compressor squashes the signal (reduction) and then applies make up gain to get that signal back to where it was volume-wise...so this would make the quiet notes louder and the loud notes more quiet, right? My understanding of a limiter was that it's only making the loud notes quieter where a hard limiter would just say "anything over x threshold gets reduced to where the threshold is set."
I guess my question is, is the limiter used in this video more like a compressor? What's the difference between a limiter and compressor? Thanks dude!
Yes, a limiter squashes anything above its threshold. In this case, the threshold is 0dB and we are using the gain to make things louder. If anything happens to cross 0db, it gets compressed and released extremely fast to avoid clipping
@@IvanBassist ooh gotcha gotcha. That makes total sense. What a great vid, man. Thanks again
Ivan, you can find the separate audio tracks (among many-many others) of this song on the following website. You can actually re-mix the entire song with those files:
remixpacks.ru/?s=symphony+of+destruction
I've done many remixes, of songs that I like and I have removed the bass entirely so I can play my own bass :). Actually I learnt a lot by re-mixing all those songs and I was shocked to see that there are tons of songs where the bass sounds "normal" oreven "pleasant" when you hear the song in its entirety but the isolated bass sound is a horrible distorted sound. Goes to show the lengths at which sound engineers need to go to in order to make the bass guitar really audible.
You're going to have to register on Yandex disc service but for the purposes of exploring and downloading stem audio files you can definitely remain at the free level.
As I understand it, those files have been salvaged from "Guitar Hero" type games. Plenty of Nirvana, a few Smashing Pumpkins, some Alice In Chains (the best ones actually), some Iron Maiden and TONS of Metallica stuff, among many-many others. Enjoy :)
Great! Thanks for the info 🙌🏽 I’ve listened to a couple of those isolated tracks on UA-cam and it is indeed funny to hear how the actual bass tone sounds like on it own 😂
Basss TOnE TUESDAy! fellas
What’s up, guys!? Iván Carranza here 😄
question: when we use a amp simulator like for example amplitube, would you still recommend filtering and compressing it or amp simulator should have it already right?
You still have to filter and compress it
@@IvanBassist alright, thanks for the input! super helpful stuff
