Thanks for putting this together. I also really learned a lot from your older video "25 Reggae Bass Lines Medley". Any chance of doing a follow-up with 25 more Reggae basslines/riddims?
I think what is crucial and never mentioned is the importance of alot of gain or volume on amp and learnt to play super soft controlling finger noise is essential also! So everything up and control of the picking! It should push sound waves that rumble your chest and everything in the room.
If that works for you, go for it. I prefer to push the tubes with the bass a little more than with the preamp. It allows you to play with a little more dynamics and articulation.
thanks mate for this video! lemme ask about the bassbox: if you are jamming with your bandmates, where would you place your bassbox? in the corner? next to the wall? or away from walls/corners?
Nice tone! What strings are these? And a second question: is it possible to achieve this deep low sound just with a norma amp and cab (and perhaps also a pedal)?
Ivan, which one would you recommend, the Aguilar tone hammer. Or Mesa subway. For use in Reggae/Dub? Thanks for your helpful information. New Subscriber.
Both work great, but do sound different and have a couple of extra features. I personally like the Mesa, because the bass can be boosted ALL the way without being too muddy or clipping the unit + you have a deep switch
I’ve had bad luck with Fender’s quality control. G&L kicks ass. I’d definitely grab one of these if I had to choose between both. Here’s the full demo of the JB: ua-cam.com/video/biBj1hCnWV8/v-deo.html
@@IvanBassist Thank you. I've had bad luck with Fender's quality control as well. I've had to return 2 American Professional Jazz basses and have the opportunity to exchange for a G&L Fullerton Deluxe JB. I saw your review a couple days ago. Fantastic.
IvanBassist Black or Sunburst. They don’t seem to come with hard cases anymore. Deluxe gig bag. I have a 2011 Fender American P in sunburst so I might go for black.
I find it strange too that reggae bassists prefer jazz bass. Goes to show that you can play anything with any bass as long as you know how to dial it in.
Bass should carry everything else your backing track is to high, Or to be put properly your bass was too low, the bigger the bass speaker the better, a single 15" inch is better than 4 X 10s! When it comes to recording bass it's all about presision playing which you won't get if your thumping away on the strings to get a sound out of a bad amp setup in rehearsals!
@@IvanBassist I would be interested in a video that explores the effects available for my kind of playing, suboctaver, and some effects to use with bass for dubstep, playing now for forty years, and yes bold driving bass lines still do it for me. Played alot of genres in my time but I'm known for reggae, I'm now grandpa Dub! Would love some more info on your preamp unit and pedals, I'm about to record so would be good to have more opinions before I end up buying something that isn't any good to my genre, I've subscribed to your channel. And of course liked. Take care and stay safe brother.
@@IvanBassist so was toying with the idea of changing over to some EMG active PJ's looking at, plumes earthquaker signal shredder, And or KMA electronics queepeg suboctaver, but I'm really lost in this world of peeled and preamps, just always relied on a big bass amp flat wounds and a subtle touch, I play guitar and keyboards too but I know I can get some good effects I can use my bass instead of keyboards which would be great for gigging!
This is a really nice sound, I was looking for something else, but I enjoyed the whole thing! Thanks
Sounds great and a great lesson for dialing in an EQ in general. Thanks 🙌
Thanks, Andrew! Glad you liked it!

Happy to help! I’ll see what I can do about that, but I’ve already got a bunch of other videos on the pipeline
@@IvanBassist we still waiting for some more reggae riddims
yes sir! exactly what I needed to see, really well explained man thanks

Great work! Well explained and articulated! 👍🏼🔆❤️

Definitely 100%
Dang, that makes it pretty much impossible for me to practice without driving my neighbours crazy.

Usually near a wall, but wherever you find enough place 😄

Hi! Thanks for watching! Those were d’addario nickel 45-100.
You can definitely achieve similar results with different amps/cabs and pedals :)
i use la bella deep talking flatwounds strings they are amazing for reggae tones!
Great sounds man!
Thanks, Josh!
@@IvanBassist 🤘😜
Of all bass preamp you tested, NUX MLD, TC ELECTRONIC SPECTRADRIVE & MESA BOOGIE SUBWAY, which is best for reggae and hip hop ?
I’d say the Subway. The deep switch is brutal for those genres

@IvanBassist Thanks again, Ivan. My local guitar shop has both peramps available for audition! Looking forward to tone shaping the audition room!
Great tone. What brand and gauge of flat wounds are you using?
Those were d’addario nickel rounds 😅 I think i mention somewhere in the video that you might get an even better tone “if” you get flats
Definately flat wounds! Always
Hey man. Great playing. Would you recommend this bass over a Fender American Professional Jazz? Thanks.

Great video, very illustrative how to achieve a pretty nice raggae tone. Could you do a video on Motown sound?
Got one already recorded :) Should be out in the following weeks
Nice!
And I recognized all the riddims. Do I win a prize? ;-)

What other pre-amp/DI do you recommend for a nice round reggae bass tone for recordings?
Aguilar Tone Hammer is great, too!
@@IvanBassist Alright, thanks I will look into it as well.
i knew I've seen you before..... 25 reggae songs?
Yessir
Needs more mids. It totally gets lost in the mix...
Hmm i can even hear the bass through my tiny iphone speakers 🤷🏽♂️
Hey man quit playing this G&L jazz bass in this video. You're giving me GAS and gonna cost me lots of money
I’m sorry to disappoint you. I guess you’ll just have to buy the bass to have some peace of mind 🤷🏽♂️😂
