I have always loved LRB, but we have to admit that John gave this band a much needed touch of energy. Such an amazing front man, singer, so genuine, energetic, good looking! He needed his own band to be free, without any restrictions, singing the songs he wanted and wants to sing.
Only just found this! I remember seeing John and LRB at the Bathurst 1000 where they were the first band to play at a new ampitheatre that was built there. Little did I know a few years later I'd be in John's band. Beautiful memories.
Well, that's interesting. I'm UK, I worked in the motor racing world from mid 60s.. I married in 1972, my husband was the manager of Thruxton racing circuit in Hampshire. In those days the Bathurst was shown on our tv channels ( but is now probably on sky or Virgin which I don't have.). So I may well have seen LRB and John in the programme? But I can't recall it, so probably not as John's voice is unforgettable! The Bathurst - we thought most of the drivers were a bit mad, some of the manoeuvres were crazy. If you followed motor racing - Frank Gardner, what a legend. Paul Hawkins, he came here to the UK, I knew him in the 60s onwards, he garaged his car where I worked - what a character. At the end of the 60s I got a job with the British Automobile Racing Club in London, and at the start of the 70s I had signed up to emigrate to Australia, (sponsored by Geoff Sykes) but got married instead. You've brought back memories for me, thank you, and if I had gone to Australia I'd have been watching you in John's concerts. Happy Christmas to you and yours, stay well. 18.12.23.. UK. E♥️

The world of music is so much richer with you joining John's band - every member blended and contributed so much to the overall performance, with John as the consummate entertainer and also THE VOICE. Thank you so much for the brilliant memories, they round my day (& life) up nicely! You should be very proud of all you achieved.
Ahhh @Brett Garsed - just going through some John & LRB oldies. So very happy you sent that cassette tape to Glenn Wheatley. What a dynamic team you were with John and of course Stu Fraser RIP. What a team. My absolute favourite solo of yours is the one before We're No Angels. Absolutely spectacular 🎉🎉 Hope you're well and you've been able to spend some time with John while he's been recovering. He can sing anything from rock to opera and make it sound great. He is definitely one of the best male singer in the world. There's a legacy for you right there. Hall off fame is the place he should be in. I truly hope he gets that recognition during his living years.

He has been inducted into the Australian hall of fame, been awarded the highest civilian award, and been the Australian of the year. Much loved in Aussie.
I’m a 66 year old Texan and had LRB rockin on the cassette deck in my 68 Plymouth Roadrunner during the mid 70s and into 1982. Sadly we weren’t given the opportunity to hear this version of LRB. In April of 2021 this concert popped up on my channel. My Lord! Great vocals and Farnham is a natural frontman and solo artist. America was gypped; big time. He can hold his own with anyone, and surpass most. Many compare John Farnham and Glenn Shorrick. This is unfair to both artists. Glenn was in one phase and John another. I’ll not compare nor contrast but will enjoy the blue blazes out of both. As we say in Texas:

Don R you are right both singers had their style. I’m glad John came home to Australia we got him all to ourselves. It’s funny how most of the guys from LRB ended up in John’s band down here.
Another Texan who saw him w little river band years ago agrees with you they were both great but John has a superior voice to most on the planet
@@lanstarphoenix4189 I loved LRB, and loved Glenn voice very much. The whole band was fantastic. But John took them to a new level. Too bad Beeb didn't, and doesn't, like John. Having his mic cord taped down was reprehensible.
John’s so dynamic you can’t take your eyes off him. He always stood out even in a band of other talented musicians/singers. The man could sing the phone book and people would still stop and stare in wonder. ❤️
I'd love him to sing the list of the side effects of the medication I'm supposed to take "lifelong" - it might make me feel better about some of the nastier ones. - - - - "we can really help you with your condition that might otherwise be pre cancerous, but you'll probably end up with kidney failure so needing dialysis, and osteoporosis resulting in spine, hip, etc fractures! ". I shall be 80 in 4 weeks - I think the medication may be ditched? Meantime I watch all those lovely youtube videos of the beautiful Farnsey and his beautiful unique voice, with a huge smile on my face. Just love every song, and not one dud note in any of them. People concentrate so much on their best-in-the-world vocals and forget that they were damn fine instrumentalists.
They made a big mistake not keeping John. He has a beautiful God given talent. He added so much class to the group. The best LRB ever wad

considering he left and had a massively successful solo career im sure he doesn't mind. His album Whispering Jack is the second highest selling album in Australia at 20 platinum. I've seen Glenn Shorrock twice, busting out LRB and his own classics. He's a fantastic entertainer but i don't think other male singer can be compared to Farnsey. His nickname of 'The Voice' is well earned
Man, I would have sacrificed part of my anatomy to be lead guitarist in that band ~~ John Farnham is a vocal icon .....🎵.
I remember watching this with my dad. He loved this so much! So many memories. Love this band! My dad loved John!

Cannot understand why John Farnham recieved so much criticism for his time in the Little River Band. His and the whole band's vocals are amazing. This is a beautiful song.

I’m probably in the minority, but I feel like John improved all the LRB songs he sang. Listen to the sped up version of Just Say That You Love Me here, vs the original. Just awesome stuff!

I could not understand this either..i have seen some interviews, etc., where L.R.B., barely gets acknowledged..What!??.. i don't understand this either..msm..always distorting things out of order..😏.
Even John himself seemingly agrees..?.. this i don't understand either, so confusing..here he seems quite happy here..the missing piece LRB that skyrockeyed them..imho..John shone the brightest with this band..all of them together..a magical 💫 time in musical history..🎶🎶🎶

I saw Little River Band in October '83 at the Saddlerack Lounge in San Jose, Ca. My sister & I went to see them. Omg! The band was fantastic.
John had such stage presence & Showmanship! He was terrific! But i have to admit that the bass guitar player (Wayne Nelson) absolutely had my attention. I could not take my eyes off of him. I tried, didn't work. Watching him moving to the beat & enjoying being on stage was fantastic. I did meet him after the show & got a picture taken with him. Its still in the frame. What a nice guy!
Glad though that John went solo & became so successful. His voice has such power & volume, its phenomenal! Love to see the audience participation when he performs "You're The Voice".
I hope he is feeling well. I do pull him up & watch him. Thank you John for all the fabulous vocals. You are truly the best!
Bloody brilliant singer John Farnham is! Love listening to his renditions of these classics (as well as listening to Glenn Shorrock's but each has their own inimitable, unique and beautiful style which we as an audience get treated to!!)
Exactly. It gets very boring when people compare the two. They are both great, and separate. It's like the people who continue to compare Agnetha and Frida from ABBA. They are both fantastic and incomparable.

I don't know if it's better. It's different. Both Glenn and John sang the same song yet they each made it their own. IMO, that makes both singers great.

Thanks to Covid lockdown in 2020, I discovered this era of John Farnham that I had no idea even existed. Thanks so much for uploading this. I feel like I’ve uncovered a hidden gem in Australian music that has been forgotten. The whole band sounds amazing, and you could really see the amazing frontman John was becoming. I’d love to get live audio of John singing the LRB songs here, as they all sound great!

Amazing ! He really honed his voice with LRB
He, also, found out what he DIDN'T want. Like having his mic taped to the floor so that he couldn't roam.
There is a utube clip from a concert he was guest at in 1972, he sings about 5 songs. The voice is there, the audience participation is there, and he reinterprets the beatles song, Yesterday. He always had it. People wanted him to sing their songs, their way. LRB didn't give him the voice, it gave him creds, and taught him how not to behave to your fellow band members. He treated everyone who worked for him and toured with him as family, as apposed to how he was treated.
They sang my favourite song by the LRB in this concert COOL CHANGE whether sung by Farnsey or Glenn Shorrick its still my favourite song ,it brings me to a place of peace and tranquillity everytime I hear it , it calms me when I'm stressed and makes me think of island holidays and cruises I've been on with my beautiful late wife , thank you LRB .

Listening to "The Net" it's hard not to pretend it's a song about the internet even though it's obviously not. A lot of the song lyrics fit quite well too.
Not one bad note, no auto tune,, this should ne used to teach young singers how it;s done!

LRB was a band before John. This is John and his backups.
Amazing that there's no mention of keyboardist David Hirshfelder in the personnel credits, considering he was such a big part of their sound live during this era. I know he had just joined but still, there's no reason he couldn't have been cited at the end with the others.
He's the only lead singer the band had that didn't have a lisp

the notes are G5 G#5 G5 F5 - 12.5 notes above Middle C! 😮
I defy any other male singer to SING those notes! Considering the average male can only sing to Eb5 which is 2 notes lower than the G#5 [NB his usual range is F3 to C5 and he pushes D5 on "Please don't ask me"]
But it sounds nothing like LRB ?

It wasn't right that Glenn Shorrock was made to leave Little River Band. That said the Farnham years were great though even though they weren't able to turn around their falling popularity and bring it back up even close to what it had been in the 1970s. John's voice is great (as is Glenn's but John has that higher range) and the songs were pretty good just not at the level they had been in the 1970s. Plus there was a change in personnel at their record company and the new guy apparently didn't promote the new albums as much. It's surprising that "Playing to Win" wasn't a huge hit though. That's a great song.
Glenn wasn't made to leave LRB. He was tired and had enough. He recommended John replace him. They were friends, and still are. IMO, John took them to another level. The audiences were not ready for the changes.
At one interview, LRB was trying to be up to the same level as the Eagles where almost everybody in the band can sing and bring their own flavor. In my opinion, they did exactly as that with great energy and better stage performance. If they were to be in a back to back concert, I would put Eagles first to be the opening act and then LRB to close the show. Oh man, I would probably be bringing that energy on my way back home.
What is with all of this "Eagles" crap? They were not similar in the slightest.

The lead guitarist is one of the best I’ve ever hear. Move over Clapton and just about any upper world guitarist. Blew my mind. I’m trying to figure out his name. It is Steve “something” because Farhnam calls him that.

This was an HBO concert. At the time I recorded it on my stereo VCR. I am a retired video engineer. I transferred it to a DVD. The quality of my DVD is much better than this youtube video which is horrible.
