One of the thoughts that helped me be more confident in following my dreams and passions is actually a tweet: it was on a post about an older person studying med school and someone was like "well you'll be 50 by the time you'll get to be doctor" and they said "i'll be 50 anyways". No matter how late i think i am to my dreams, time will march on. Its both scary and inspiring to understand that no one and nothing will wait for you to get what you want, time will pass anyways; so might as well start working towards your desires.

@@garbanzo6867 the funniest shit is that most activities nowadays that are stereotypically "for women" were either mainly performed by men back in the day, are being dominated by men in the industry, and worst case scenario, it's both. Like people gender certain activities as feminine, but when you look at history, men have been far more known for doing it, making gendering activities even dumber and is just a way to demotivate people from doing what they wanna do. Gender stereotypes change and evolve with time, so who gives a damn, if you think you can do it and find it fun, do it anyway.

I needed this video. I've wrestled with limiting beliefs since... Forever.
I am often in awe and envy of my friend who just has a hodge podge of random skills and is unafraid to try things and I learnt that in her childhood her parents encouraged her to sign up for classes every year and they always fostered a very proactive learning environment. So what you said about having a supportive network is very true.
I can say my parents did encourage me, but only my strengths. The wider society did not help either. My weaknesses were mocked or made fun of and if they did want me to learn it was through shaming and bullying. So I learnt to only double down on what I was good at and avoid doing anything else that might reveal my ineptitude. Cue:
    - A lifetime of persistent performance anxiety
    - An attachment to passive learning (I'll just read this article about a skill but never DO the thing)
    - A reluctance to try anything new or that seemed "challenging"
    - Doing all that I could to avoid the hard task
What funny is the same friend I mentioned envied my ability to rely on others for help (I guess I have the AUDACITY to lol) but I said well, its because I literally don't believe in my own competency lol. Learned helplessness is very easy to achieve if you assume everyone else is smarter/better/more capable than you and if you've been convinced certain things are just naturally harder (like math, science, etc) . But it's a frustrating and limiting life to live.
And I just wanna have fun damnit. And not live in fear of, well, everything. Might be time to get a little sassy with myself and start having some more audacity. Pretend I have a cheeky British cat yelling in my ear 😅

So many people dont seem to want to start something unless they know everything or theyre scared of failure(or cringe as you mentioned). I have a lack of confidence in some areas, but I know that i could learn to do many things because im not afraid of failure therefore im not afraid of trying.

I stopped posting my drawings online for years because not getting much feedback or likes meant I was rubbish, even though I love drawing and people liked what I was doing. This video legit made me feel a bit better. I've struggled as an artist with massive imposter syndrome and used to not care at all to the point through school I posted over 400 drawings to an Insta account. Now I have the massive fear of posting due to seeing all the skill/talent of others, especially those younger than me being better than my skill level. I'm trying to get better at not letting it stop myself.
I've really stunted over myself over the years and halted my progress in art due to stopping for long periods of time because I felt so terrible about my art. But now I'm trying to finally just shove through all that and continue doing it more consistently and compare my art with my old artwork to look at improvement rather then comparing myself to others. And learning it's okay to not like every drawing, because even with the drawings I don't like... I'm still learning something new.
Sorry, long word ramble but thought I might as well talk about it in case there's anyone who relates

that's the spirit! I too noticed that posting art constantly on instagram was damaging my mental health, so I stopped and mainly shared photography & videos (primarily via stories, because that was easy to do). The fear of loosing followers or rather the pressure I put on myself to only post great works was gone and I was able to hone my skills at my own pace, until I was somewhat happy with it ✨ Now I have a bunch of artworks ready and plan on publishing them 😁
But yeah there were time where I did not learn anything new at all, because idk, most educational content is so damn boring or just not for my and my style. It took me a long time until I found a very good guy on yt who teaches art I wanna make in a very easy to understand way. Aaand having no digital art tools helped me getting into traditional art 🎨

When used right, it takes away so much of the planning and the min-maxing that has far too much say over my day to day - and I say this as someone with all of the executive dysfunction. "Why am I doing this? Bestie BECAUSE" needs to be on my wall or something.
Also the thing about acting as if people are already interested in what you're doing also works with friendship, apparently - i.e. (respectfully) acting like the friend you want to have.

Every little success will be insignificant once you realise that it was just 1% of the 1% you need to actually get done. Days, weeks, years of work will ultimately surmount to nothing as you realize the scale of what's actually expected of you.
Everyone around you will cheat and skip off edges but demand you don't.

I have friends who tell me I can’t do something because then I go from
“Eh I could do that” to “YOU THINK I CAN’T? WATCH ME!”
    Very inspirational

I have had a saying for awhile now, "If it can be understood by a human, it can be understood by me", which I think harbors the same spirit as the, "a man has done this before" but it feels more open. This is also why I feel like my problem is less that I don't think I can because I am incapable, but rather I don't think I can because there is never any time to.
