Cooper was a true gentleman. Both Ali and cooper were larger than life giants. Although we all know about the greatness of Ali, Cooper was very very down to earth. Both sadly missed.
He cut easy but it didn’t hamper is career. He was a top domestic level fighter. Far short of world class. He didn’t have the best of chins. He was sparked out by both Johansson and Patterson. I think it was only the Ali fights he got stopped by cuts
So much has changed since Henry’s glory days, sadly not for the better. We won’t see his like ever again nor Ali’s either. Henry was a tough guy in the ring but a total gentleman out of it, loved his wife and raised his kids well, the epitome of a proper man.
Henry Cooper and his awesome left hook- a boxing LEGEND. The only man to put Ali down when he was his peak of fitness. Henry was cheated out of the victory by Dundee and the 'damaged' glove. An absolute gentleman-much loved and sadly missed!
@Jakethemuss Ali got back up pretty quick and its proven the gloves thing took seconds nothing more its an urban Myth, and im a brit.....Ali the greatest...
@@kevinmunday5782 Dundee confirmed this I think. The smelling salts that were used were illegal. The great Henry Cooper. The only slight on his name, is, i just discovered he actually left *South London* to go and live, in all places, North London. The greatest punch ever thrown in a British ring‼❕‼❕‼
Henry's brother george(jim) was a pro boxer aswell, but suffered badly from cuts. Them high cheekbones were a curse, there was another brother (bern) who was older than the twins.
An absolute gentleman of the ring and family man If only sportsman today had that type of attitude to family and the sport they chosen Earning 10/20 times more than mr Cooper did They seem to squander and cheat in relationships and sport The last of a true British hero with values and genuine respect for opponents
Takes me back to my childhood. Also, my brother and I had boxing gloves bought us when I was 5 and my brother 7, we used to knock lumps off one another as well back in the sixties as children.
Prior to frank bruno, henry was probably our most beloved boxer although bruno went one better & eventually became HW champion. R.I.P Sir Henry Cooper! 🇬🇧💥🥊
Bugner is hated for defeating Cooper, instead of passing the torch the British fans vilified him so it's unsurprising they never give him his flowers. Both are legends though.
Interesting that he signed the autograph left-handed. I wonder if he was a converted southpaw, or if he was orthodox from the start. Does anyone on here know? Thanks

@@georgemorley1029 Ali was really out of it. I would never count him out though(No Pun Intended) Ali beat Liston fighting blind in one round. Just don`t know what would happen. No guarantee that Cooper would win.
Cooper interviewed here in old age is still lucid and personable. Ali at this time in his life was a stumbling, drooling punchy mess. Who therefore won their fights together?
@Scotty 2 Hotty another myth, his glove had foam coming out the previous round. Dundee may have cut it a bit more, but the gap between round was only 5 seconds more than the usual 60 seconds. The story of someone running to the dressing room to get another glove is incorrect. Interesting if Cooper had knocked him down earlier in the round.
@Scotty 2 Hotty it's been established by the refs, timekeepers and the live radio commentary. Even those, who perpetuate the myth of a delay don't say 20 minutes.
@Scotty 2 Hotty you made the assertion it was 20 mins between rounds, you can prove it. I am quite satisfied with what I have said and the truth of it.

Brandon Holmes he died in 2011 mate.
He died 6 years ago
Ye think he faked his death he was in my fish and chip shop cupple of weeks ago
From a Scotsman,he's our Henry and should have been the World Champion.
Great guy...
mr. Cooper still a heavy weight in my heavyweight champion in my eyes. Boxers of this time for real boxing real men.
He was an honorable man and very tough
He was to small for a heavy weight could have been a great cruiser or even light heavy.
He was only Commonwealth Champion because he refused to fight George Chuvalo.
I've never heard Muhammad Ali so humble
Well said
The closest Ali ever got to being put to sleep was from a Cooper left hook.
Closer than Frazier...? I doubt it

One of the best in and outside the ring. No ego a true gentleman, not like the so called champs today they don't even come close.
Says a lot for the person Henry Cooper was that Ali once he had met him in the first fight did not trash talk him.
Even though Ali is my all time favorite i don't see how he would have survived that kd without Angelo in his corner.
