10” Fly Predators Can’t Resist!! - Pike and Musky Fly Pattern

  • This huge Pike and Musky fly pattern was made to attract larger predatory fish. This fly has an articulated back half for enhanced movement, and the addition of a dragon tail amplifies its action. While not as durable, it still fishes well without it. Incorporating deer hair adds volume and water displacement, aiding in attracting fish. A rattle in the back increasses vibrations in the water enhances its effectiveness. Regardless of color, this fly promises to be a great addition to your fly box next season (If it will fit).

    If you're enjoying these types of videos, please consider leaving a like and dropping a comment! It takes about five times longer to create them. If there isn't much interest, I'll stick to making five regular videos. But if you're keen on seeing more, featuring larger streamers, I'm all for it! They're really fun to tie, even though editing can be a bit of a hassle. Let me know if you want more, and I'll keep them coming!

    you should make some super light colored ones from pinching that carpet material off tennis balls and rolling it together into a twine type of thing or just using it at a wrap

    • @MainelyFlies
      @MainelyFlies  6 місяців тому +2

      I'll get some more up like it they just take a long time to edit. Only ones I've really seen with Zonkers in these sizes are those with a single long strand. Mostly because they weight so much when wet. But I can look into it more.

    Love watching pike flies. The challenge is making them lightweight and water-shedding. If you want to add value, explore techniques that do that.

    As someone who ties a bunch of these patterns I definitely don’t recommend using this style of hook. There isn’t enough gap on the hook for the amount of materials being used. I recommend the Ahrex tp610 for flies like this. It’s a heavy gauge wire with an extra wide gap and a shorter shank. It’s a beautiful fly but the hook really ruins it

    • @MainelyFlies
      @MainelyFlies  6 місяців тому

      You talking about the back one? That was cut off just using the 9x shank. If it’s the front one, it’s a PR320 Predator Stinger Hook in 6/0 you’d go bigger than that?

    • @brandonfobesoutdoors4108
      @brandonfobesoutdoors4108 6 місяців тому +1

      @@MainelyFlies I’d personally run a 4/0 in the back then add a shank then use a 6/0 up front like you did. Predatory fish often t-bone the fly in the middle so having a hook in the back and the front can really help improve your hook up ratio

    Great pattern, poor hook selection. Minimum 2/0 hook is needed for these hard fighting fish, preferably a B10S or KONA BGC
