Totally agree, this can be a meditation practice , and the more it becomes so, the more we can express oir innermost creative essense. To me this is one of the ways we can commune with our soul...
Well said, Aloel. I think it can be a very deep practice in many ways, too. 🙂
“Trying to find a painting in what I’ve done already… the paint has its own way of painting itself” beautiful this resonates
Watercolor, art in general, has definitely saved my life! In many ways. But I feel I am constantly, whether a drawing, Watercolor or acrylic...I'll say "ok, done" then look back and say "oh no wait, it needs this that....just one more thing!" And suddenly my husband will come in, hours later saying "didn't you say you were done? It looks great, just leave it." Ahahahahahahah 🤣😆😏 seems to always be that way :)
Hahaha, thank you for sharing. 😀 Knowing when to stop is so often a challenge, I completely agree. 😁🙏
@@TimSchofieldArt :) its definitely one of the more difficult parts of art in general. The other, to me anyway, is I just see all my mistakes, or things I meant to do but didn't or vice versa.....I am trying (trying...I'm not at all good at this...but I'm trying🙄😏) to remember that others don't know all those things...they see the end and if they like it I don't have to point out all my mistakes!🤦🏼♀️🙄🤷🏼♀️😄
This is why I paint as well!
Your work is just incredible.
I absolutely agree about never feeling quite done with a watercolor and knowing when to stop. Also, I love that the paintings seem to paint themselves. I love the way that certain pigments react with one another. I find myself gravitating towards my favorites.
That image is beautiful !
Thank you, Judith! :)
Love the simplicity of your studio and your work. I am new to watercolour at 73, and am exploring the medium. Greetings from OZ.
Thanks so much, MJ. It's a wonderful practice to discover and I hope that you're enjoying it! I appreciate you joining me for the journey. 😄
Totally enjoy watching you create and your commentary really speaks to me. Thank you!
I'm so happy that the videos are helpful yo you, Kathy! I appreciate your support. 🙂
Found you painting and talking about it as a meditation. Wonderfully I had this same inspiration about my painting just a couple of days ago. Love your paint led creations. 🦋💖🦋
Thank you, Jan. 🙂 I love approaching art as a form of meditation, there's so much fun there I think. Thank you for your kind comment, I hope that you have a great day!
I just relate to your style so much. Love your work. Thank you from Australia.
Amazing to hear from you over in Australia, Jen! Thanks so much, I'm glad that the paintings connect with you. 😁✌️ Really appreciate your comment, have an amazing day.
I'm here in Australia too. Love watercolour as a medium. Still learning myself
@@a.o9656 Awesome! Watercolours are great fun to learn and play with; enjoy. 🙂
Art is my therapy 💯💯
I hear that! 😁✌️
Just found you and it was exactly what I was looking for 🙏💖
That's so great to hear, a warm welcome, Ana! I'm glad that you like the videos 😁 Thanks for your kind words.
Happy that I found your channel, love your videos!
Thank you so much 😁
Excellent Tim - very modestly stated….
Thanks so much, Brian. 🙂
Love your vids Tim!
Thank you 😁🙏
I love this intuitive approach, and yes watercolour is very immediate. I recall seeing this guy paint once who started by quickly painting colour on the canvas then he just sat back and looked at it until he could see an image emerge and then he just strengthened the shapes of what he saw emerging from the random colour and brushstrokes. It was like it painted itself and he ended up with really unique pieces.
Hi Petal :) That sounds really familiar to me relative to my own process, I don't always do lots of lifting pigment early on but it's one of my favourite techniques for working in horizons and creating mountains. 😄
I have the same feelings when I am watercolor painting. Never give up on a painting -- there is always a way through. Beautiful work, Tim. Please keep going, more videos. It's not just your wonderful painting, it's the way you approach it and share the thoughts, the discoveries. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this. Great Job!
I really appreciate the encouragement and I'm glad that you enjoy the videos and the art!! Definitely lots more to come, making the videos is a lot of fun as well and gets me using different parts of my brain! Haha. 🙂
I am new to your channel, and I am so happy to have stumbled upon it. I may be new to your content, but, I am not new to the feelings you have just described about art. Your words expand outward, and can be felt in a lot of forms of art. I am happy to know another feels, as well as listen’s to what the art is saying. As a very quiet soul I could not have expressed this the way you have. Thank you.
It's so true what you said about when it's time to stop adding things to a piece. I feel like all my paintings are unfinished. Not incomplete, but unfinished. I decided to stop at some point, but they still have infinite possibilities to keep changing... just like me.
Thank you, Laiza! I suspect it's something that a few people feel similarly about. 🙂 It's interesting that since making this video, I've found that in accepting feeling unfinished is something I'm likely to experience it's become less of a feature over time. I hadn't noticed until recently but here and there, I'll feel that I've found a natural finishing point for a painting. It doesn't always happen and it's not a problem if it doesn't, so I'm still very familiar with that unfinished feeling! I appreciate the reminder, it's great to hear that you've been able to accept it's part of the process for you as well.
@@TimSchofieldArt I see you 🙃
I love the unfinished feeling in my art, it reminds me of that sense of creating things that are kinda alive themselves. Maybe what you call finished is what I call complete. I made some pieces that reached a point where I feel I needed to do nothing more, I didn't want to. They feel so complete. It's different from finished/unfinished to me. I love talking about these perceptions with people ☺
I enjoy your videos
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoy them!
That is an awesome beard, too bad I can't grow one :[
Hello Tim, I am impressed by your free approach to watercolor painting. The paper you use seems to be very thick. Can you please tell me what paper you use?
Hi Chris, thanks for your kind comment. You're absolutely right, it's pretty heavy paper! I've used a few different types and my current favourite is Saunders Waterford High White 300lb hot pressed. I hope this helps. 🙂
Great, thanks for the details. I recently started using the same paper. I buy big sheets and cut it to size. It looks thicker in the video, perhaps because of the angle of the camera. Super paper, it allows removal of paint late in the drying process and it is very tough. So, now I will try flooding the paper with water and some looser painting. Hopefully resulting in some pleasing, ‘accidents’. Less perfectionism and more meditation. I look forward to more videos.

What's your art style name? And what this colors type ...please tell me ....becouse I'm pincel artist
Hey Suhaib! This is all Daniel Smith watercolour paints. 🙂 I'm not sure that my style really has a name! It could be described as loose painting or to some degree, intuitive painting. I hope this helps.
Do you live in Yorkshire? Loving your art 💚
Thank you! 🙂 Yes I'm in West Yorkshire, Hebden Bridge. I have an open studio event the first 3 days of July if you're local and would like to see some of the art in-person!
@@TimSchofieldArt I thought I recognised it, I used to live in Sowerby bridge for a while. I have now moved back to Cumbria where I was born. Loving the content man and it's inspired me to get back to painting so thank you. Wish you all the best in the future 💚
@@thelightswitchflickers3161 Ahhh, you were pretty much just down the road then! 😄 Really pleased to hear that it's helped you start painting again. I'm glad that you enjoy the videos, it means a lot to hear. Thank you. 😀
@@TimSchofieldArt yeah spent a lot of time in Hebden it's a beautiful place. My main creative process is in music but I shall be picking up my paint brushes very soon. Good luck my friend 💚
