Goodness, Tim. I had to pause for a moment at 1.48 and just sit with the rush of emotions that hugged me when I saw your gate. It's so silly, I know. I've lived in Canada for the last 14 years and I'm originally from South Yorkshire. I haven't been "home" since I lost my mum 4 years ago and that gate is just home to me. In an earlier video you talked about vivid memories but being unable to grasp the feelings that go with them anymore. That's where I have been since losing my mum and that bloody gate just broke it for me.
    Thank you.
It's a lazy Sunday for us and I just found your channel. I'm working through each video and there is something so soothing and indulgent about your videos and your art. Kinda like finding an unexpected hour along in my day with no expectations on how to fill it.

What a wonderful comment, thanks so much for sharing this and I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your mum. I've lived in Yorkshire for about 2 years now and although I miss being a little closer to the peaks, I do love it here. It's so interesting that something like the gate has the potential to bring back memories but I totally get what you mean! I'm glad to have made something that was helpful. 🙂
Thank you, I'm glad you think the videos are soothing; I like to keep things pretty chill where I can. 😁
Hoping you have a top day!

Growth brings a certain sense of accomplishment. Pleasing the audience is boring. You should try to still be yourself, instead of a people pleaser. There are many out there who will love you for the authentic human experience. I've seen people's channels grow for just doing that. I think that is the most beautiful part of being an artist, getting to be unapologetically authentic. Good on you for clearing up your space/head and having fun. Great job!

I like the way you think. Before my husband retired, I really enjoyed moving stuff for the reasons you mention. Now he's home all the time and questions everything I do. You've inspired me to go through my art space, to help clear my head out. I'm definitely suck and I've been feeling like I'm stagnating. I know that 'flow' feeling, and I need that, and I know once I'm there, I'll feel much better.
    Thanks for this.

I’m a lot older than you Tim and have been painting for over 50 years and found my own way of coming ‘unstuck’ which seems to be part of being an artist. You are very wise and intuitive and I’m learning a lot from you. I’ve been playing with water colours and you’ve given me some ideas for working. Thank you

I am much older than you, in my fifties now (God, it feels so old when I say it..) and I have just finished rearranging the furniture in my home office / studio. I have always done that once every few months, since I was a child and had my own room. It felt always exciting to get in my newly rearranged room, and it was something I did every time something important was on the horizon. A change of furniture meant turning page in the book of life, if it makes any sense.
I am glad you decided to replace live streaming with making videos on UA-cam because you are really good at it. Plus you make the kind of paintings that I enjoyed doing a few years ago (without being as good as you are obviously)
Glad to have found your channel. Nice to meet you

Hi Tim. I just stumbled over your videos and your channel. The atmosphere in your videos is so calming and I can relate to a lot of things you say. I streamed for a while too because I felt isolated and disconnected (but not lonely), just wanted to connect and relate, and I ran into the same as you said. I wanted to create for the audience, and good work as well with that I was at least satisfied. This uphill battle you mentioned is spot on! Eventually I paused streaming, because social interactions are exhausting and not so easy for me. I feel a little blocked and unproductive currently, and it was nice to see that I'm not the only one how likes to rearrange and reorganize things too while I don't really having the drive to paint or build. I wish I could let go and paint as loose as you do, just letting things happening. It's a long process of learning, changing, and developing one's state of mind. Since I found you now I'm looging forward to seeing more from you. Your videos and voice are so nice to listening to while being active or semi-active in the studio, .. or thinking about getting active :) Good luck and fortune for you and your future.

    • @TimSchofieldArt
      @TimSchofieldArt  2 роки тому

Hi Ramona. :) Thank you for your comment, it was lovely to read. It sounds like we have a lot in common! I hear you on the social interaction. At the time, another artist commented time that it was brave to paint in front of an audience, I don't know about you but I didn't find the audience itself offputting at all really, but the social engagement turned it into something completely different from my usual way of painting. I used to paint & draw with a real obsession for detail (see the doodles at the end of my most recent video for an example of my outlet for that now 😂) so learning to loosen up has been a journey for me too. I hope that your painting goes great. 👍

This is very timely for me. I’m in the middle of a commission that should be easy for me, but blimey, I’m stuck. I’ve tried it three times, and I’m just not feeling it. So this morning I’ve gone around the house like a maniac tidying up 😂 I felt refreshed even though it’s boiling hot today, and I’m now sat, picture in front of me, you in the background, feeling a bit more in the zone. Thank you 🤗

What a great comment to receive, thanks so much it means a lot! I'm really glad that the video has been helpful for you.
There was a point a year or so ago when I was determined to create a scene that I knew I could do but kept messing up, in different ways. I wonder if the self-judgement that it should be easy in the first place can be equally unhelpful at the time, it can be so easy to get stuck in your head about these things, sometimes. It's not something I've considered before, so definitely not meant to sound preachy, just in case! 😁
Best of luck with the commission, I'm sure you'll smash it. 💪

Amazing moment of natural light effect near the start! I myself record moments like that for my own artwork journal, especially inside the domestic space.
Yes to your question regarding appreciating and noting the artist self growth, I am trying to get past my own block of perfectionism issues before starting any artwork, which has held me back for too many years; yet I am noticing, the more I practice my art work now (even if it is a battle and scary at times), the more I surprise myself and notice the positive ongoing skillsets I am forming together...one step at a time. I laughed when you told the bot Alexa to shut up 😁. I would change my bedroom around aslo when I was a child, it was so much fun, and well, I don't know how it works, but some how it changes the dimensions of the room, it gets bigger somehow! It must be a tardis effect. Now, I got too many bits of me that doesn't seem to want to work the way they use to, so no more furniture moving. Actually, I'm in the process of creating a work space where I can gleefully move from one creative station to another, when it's complete I'll be very happy in a creative bliss. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your painting. Cheers! Ps. I forgot to say, even though I don't like facial hair, I must say your beard and mustash is magnificent! Regarding Alexa - for a long time it was stored in place that was jumped on frequently by my cat, Sasha. It was knocked a few feet to the ground probably 5-10 times and took a few hard knocks are a result. Definitely not functioning too well anymore haha. Totally with you on the size of the room changing! I hope that finishing up the work space goes great. 😄

We're doin nuffin wrong! Yep definitely the tardis effect! Not long and my work space will be finished, I spin to make yarn, paint, weave, knit, make tufted rugs which is fun it's like painting with yarn. For me it’s like a itch buried deep inside me that I can sometimes scratch in the vicinity of but never actually quite reaching it. Sometimes I think if I ever did satisfy that itch wholly and completely I wouldn’t need to paint anymore. So I like the fact that I’m always chasing it. Part of that practice is that occasionally I’ll get spent pursuing it and have days when I think nope, I’m done. But, then I see something, a tree, a sky… and off I go again. I just accept I’m it’s bitch now.

Tim.... intuitive art is excellent but one can't force it every day....some days it doesn't happen...like sunshine! You can force it...by just playing with art...but that magic doesn't happen I suppose

    • @TimSchofieldArt
      @TimSchofieldArt  2 роки тому +2

I completely agree, Sujanith. Perhaps there's a style that can be force but actually I'd go one step further and say I can pretty much never force it. I paint almost every day because I have a desire to, because it comes to my and (sorry for the cliché metaphor) but because my brushes and other tools feels like extensions of my own hands. It's become such a part of my routine that I wouldn't think of forcing myself to paint any more than forcing myself to walk- at least most of the time. 😁 It should be fun, even with the inevitable moments of frustration, so when it feels forced, that's a good time to step away for a bit. 😎

Just found your video's. Really enjoy your style. Was wondering how or if you stretch your paper ?

      Hey Don!
Thank you, I'm glad that you like the videos. 🙂 Stretching paper was something I contended with for some time since I use a *lot* of water. Although it's best done in most scenarios, I personally don't like adding the extra step of stretching the paper and due to the volume of water that I use I will usually still face some issues even if I do.
I've overcome this in 2 ways. The first is using much heavier paper; about 300lb, which reduces any buckling substantially. If there is still any warping of the paper, I wet the piece and flatten it under large piece of very heavy, flat MDF panels. If I'm installing the painting into one of my new frames that I've recently started building, I'll always need to include this step anyway to attach the painting to a panel.
The heavier paper costs more, but with this process it means I get perfectly flat paintings with no need to stretch. I hope this helps! 🙂

@@TimSchofieldArtThanks for the information. I'm using 140lb. stock
so I'm having to do the stretching process or I'll have A very wavy piece of paper. Keep on creating, your art is stunning.

👋🏾👋🏾 Love the uninhibited but still structure to your work. I wish to try such a wet on wet technique one day and really let my paints flow 😊 May I know what contraption you were using to clean your brushes between washes?

Hey QueenDelmarva 🙂 Thanks so much! Wet on wet is a huge part of my process and a lot of fun. If you're referring to what I'm drying my brushes in after washing them, it's a towel in a box lid that I turned in its head. 😄 Let me know if I've misunderstood!

Ah I just realised back at this time I was using a water well to clean my brushes; I'm guessing that's what you're referring to. 🙂 I believe I found it in Ken Bromley art supplies. Mine stopped working shortly after this and I opted not to replace it. ✌️

Hi Tim...your art is enchanting....but may I ask you...how long.... same theme of art, would one be interested in? I'm a hobby artist ..I can't do only landscape or still life or portraits ...I keep bit of everything...I get bored with sameness

Hi Sujanith, thanks for your comment. 🙂 It's a greatquestion and I think that the answer is quite personal to the individual. I have nothing against still life paintings but I'm totally uninterested in painting them, personally. However, I've been painting landacapesnfor nearly 20 years and still find them engaging. Everyone is different- it might be that you haven't found a subject that you enjoy painting long-term yet, or it might be that you prefer to mix things up and make changes - I think that both of these are okay 😁

May I ask. What is that yellow tool / brush you use at the start. I have never seen it before and would like to experience/ experiment with it

I moved into this flat 5 years ago… got ill and took a hit on finances. Having moved from a much bigger flat I found myself hemmed in by stacks of boxes and no where to put a bed. Trying to look on the positive side, I kind of saw it as a luxury tent. Buy 5 years has taken its toll. This state of limbo has been a huge reason why I’ve been so stuck… Now that I’m more stable financially, I’ve been able to begin with the floors and storage etc. I’m so looking forward to getting my space like a home again. To have access to my things. I know for certain it’s my time to connect to my creativity again. Your videos are a huge help too. Thankyou Tim ✨🫶🏻✨
