- "700 Glengarried Men" was written by a Lieutenant Graham in the period after the Battalion had left Aden, when the Argylls were threatened with disbandment. The song played a major part in the successful " Save the Argylls" campaign.
I've always loved these song and music, they reflect the truth of many conflicts and tells you without the need of reading.
For a very basic understanding, yes.
me nephew is learning to be a piper, he was going around in his piper's outfit with a glengarry on. Didn't know what it was called. I just thought something Scottish. haha.
Good stuff. I didn't know what a glengarry was called until I came across this song tbf.
I was a paperboy to the argylls when they were stationed at seaton barracks plymouth 1969. Their famous CO at the time colin "mad mitch" mitchell had just left them to become an mp. I can remember selling papers to the squaddies in the barracks and then being chased by their officers pet hounds down below in the separate officers family quarters.
Edited to add that the jeep driver in the pic looks a bit like mad mitch tbh. Background looks a bit like it might be in aden too where he got his nickname from.
Wow, a very cool anecdote! You are correct about the photo btw mate.
These Scottish songs just hit the spot
Listening to this while at work
Nice!
Great video mate as alaways :)🇬🇧
Always had awe and respect for forces that have bayonets attached to their firearms. Wish my own USA would bring back the bayonet for all armed forces.
