This video goes over how to do a heater hose replacement on a Volkswagen Routan. It should be the same process for any ( Fifth Generation) 2008 -2016 VW Routan/Chrysler Town & Country/Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.8 motor. The heater core is a part of the cooling system. As the coolant circulates through the engine, some of the hot coolant bypasses through the heater core, which is located in the dash. The temp inside your vehicle is then regulated by the climate control knob and blower motor, which then heats and defrosts the inside of your vehicle. The heater core is supplied coolant by two hoses, which seem to have a chronic design flaw - the plastic "Y" connector that connects the 2 heater lines to the engine fails and leaks coolant onto the exhaust manifold and could overheat and potentially cause engine failure. The aftermarket parts that we purchased were made of aluminum, which hopefully will remedy this problem. Signs of a bad heater hose would be a coolant smell, little or no heat, low coolant level, steam from under the hood, temperature gauge running hotter than normal, etc.
