Honestly I feel like Emma should be proud of the versatility she’s shown in her music over the years, singer/songwriter/ independent styled music, more punk styled, pop, covers. She can do a lot with a sound that’s quite unique in tone, vibrato, flexibility in the vocal chords. She’s pretty great 😊

I’d wondered why I fell out of love with UA-cam as both a youtuber and a consumer, you hit the nail on the head. It’s way too dark and toxic, barely any overall community. Drama just runs it. It’s so unwelcoming :(

    About the dirt question.
You’ve made such a wide range of songs that you’re always going to face negative criticism from someone depending on what sound you have, some of that is going to be brutal (especially with younger fans). But take pride that each song you’ve made has made multiple people happy (like the answer where you talked about The Promise), it shows that your writing is versatile.
Also I hope you’re doing okay.

The first question really hits me hard. I've been on UA-cam since day one. Yourself Emma and people like Philip DeFranco have been apart of my life for years and it's been difficult to see this site change from the glory days, to where it is today. I miss the golden years. It was such a better platform to be on and interact with others. While I love the huge amount of content available, but YT has become less genuine and more corporate.

I miss 2014 UA-cam it was a totally different time that cannot be described to any one person. I remember I used to sit on UA-cam for hours on end however now I just go on here occasionally and it’s sad. I’ve started coming on UA-cam more often but social media at the moment is toxic, it’s always about who is arguing with who, I use social media as an escape from my pretty shit life so seeing people arguing it isn’t nice. You’re one person who I’ve always turned to with your music such as (I know you hate it sorry) the promise and I still cry every time I hear it. Self help 101 especially the self harming one became my way of coping and knowing I am wanted (probably pathetic I know) I’ve never met you, for some reason you’re the only UA-camr I haven’t met which I hope to one day change.

‘Dirt’ and ‘Cute Without Ya’ both came out at a time when I needed a song like those. They really helped me when I was going through a tough patch in my life. I would sing them to practice in my vocal lessons. People have nothing better to do than hate on things that are good because they’re disappointed with their own lives. As difficult as it is to not acknowledge hate comments, I really hope they don’t get you down again cause there are far more people who love your work more than the people who don’t. You only see the one’s who don’t because they’re typically far more noisy than those of us who love and support you. ❤️ I look forward to hearing your new single! Take care of yourself

Emma - I just want to say how much I really look up to you and how much I really relied on your videos back in the day. I remember those times around 2015-2018 feeling the most depressed and lonely I've ever been. Every upload from the you, dodie, evan and luke got me through it. It is really sad because as you discussed friends drifting apart I often feel as though I drifted from those UA-camrs who helped me back in the day, it's really odd how strong a connection you can have with someone you've never met. I still rewatch all the old stuff now and again and get that sense of nostalgia. I think it's really amazing that you're doing all of these new things and doing things your way and it really inspires me to pursue what I want in life rather than what is 'expected' of me, if that makes sense. I am now in a situation where my problems from 2016 seem so small, and I've truly been at rock bottom and never want to be there again. And still, here in 2021 one of your videos gives me hope and makes me feel safe. I guess those connections really stuck with me because this truly made me feel something I don't feel much of these days. Thank you so much Emma, I truly mean that.

For the record, and I know I’ve told you hundreds of times on Instagram and Twitter probably. While “Sucks To Be You” is my ultimate favourite song of yours, I still get super hyped for anything and everything you put out. I love watching you evolve and grow with every new EP/Album you release. You’ve come a long way since “Go The Distance” which was the song that really pulled my attention to your music in the first place.
And as someone who used to be in a band; We had this one song called “Let It Die” that I cringe at every time I remember it now. I thought the lyrics were dumb and it was written when I was in a shitty place emotionally. But I have people tell me all the time that it was the one song our band put out that they truly looked forward to at every show. So yeah, it might make me cringe, but that song made others happy, and that’s what matters at the end of the day.

I think I've said this to you before, but even if other people can't or won't see how much you've grown and change and still cling to some old perception of you, that's their prerogative, and the only thing you can really do is just to keep improving and growing as a person for your own sake, not because you're trying to change anyone's perceptions, but just because it's what's best for you as a person. Hey Emma ... It's been a minute since I last checked in on your account due to life and my own ADHD but seeing this video is nice although I want to comment on your song the promise
I remember when you released that song I had just come out of a really dark place and was looking for something to anchor me into a positive mindset as I've struggled with depression since age 5
The promise gave me a better understanding of myself and those that love me and the repercussions of me ... Unaliving myself
I now at 26 (27 in May) play the promise alongside songs written by the likes of linkin park, a day to remember, NF, and papa roach .... Your song that you disliked for so long ... Has saved my life countless times
Regardless of how you feel about it today ... Thank you for writing and releasing it lord knows that if it saved me it's saved a lot of other people I can't not sing along every time and the fact that in the song you note that we may have never met but you still want the best for me ... I can't tell you how much that meant and still means to me every time I'm low .... I listen to you sing and you restore my faith in humanity and you remind me of why I'm still here so .. thank you so very much for every dark time in my life being the voice that sat in the dark with me singing whilst I cried and giving me no judgement but only love it may have seemed like a silly song to you but to me it's been a reason to keep living

Hi Emma, sounds like your in a good place and have good perspective on things. I'm so glad that the haircut is listed here as a good memory of better times as I remember the day rather differently, I remember the stress you had backstage in part due to the youtube community. In fact one of the reasons I'm not pictured in this hug is that I didn't want my support to be seen as me using your statues for exposure and know that my friendship was for you and not the cameras instead i was in the crowd watching with the audience (which was a bonus for me as the gig you played before this might not have been the finest vocally(there is a reason bands don't spend 3 days talking non stop before a performance) but the passion and emotion was the stuff of ledgends and I was so proud. ). I'm also pretty sure I was the second person to hug you once you got back to the green room so you knew I cared. (for those reading this wasn't a request from Emma or even something I discussed with her so I may have miss read things)
Also I can confirm everything about the nerd cubed situation was true, Me and Dan both see you as a little sister but its hard to get Dan to even talk to family unless you have a project with him (I'm half convinced dad cubed only started so Steve could get Dan to keep calling once Dan moved out (in the interest of honest of this video and my other comments that last sentence was completely a joke))
    stay safe

You've been making me laugh since I was 12. Your videos and music have seen me through my toughest years, and you even sent me the nicest and most needed comment to me when I was at the peak of my struggles and hopelessly asked the creator I relied on for help, not expecting her to reply. You told me life would get so much better, and you were right. My current relationship formed from a mutual respect and liking of your music, and it's the best, most positive relationship for my mental health so far. I'm so glad to be here to see you feel comfortable enough to answer questions honestly. You deserve credit for showing everyone how we shouldn't be afraid to grow into more positive people. Thank you for so many wonderful years!

I sincerely appreciate this video. I know it might have been a bit of a struggle as these questions have rather nuanced answers, but your observation of the prompt (to try and answer the questions happily,) and the honesty in your voice made this video truly special. I think it's becoming a more commonly-held wish amongst the UA-cam audience, but I watch a list of creators on here because of who they allow themselves to be in videos. I like to think that they allow themselves to be as authentic as possible, and so I'm pretty sure I'm here on UA-cam mostly because I appreciate the person on the other side of the internet connection, and less because their regularly scheduled programming is increasingly more engaging. Emma, you're one of those people that I appreciate, and I love that I've gotten to grow with you and learn from you. It's been a wild ride, but I'm so glad I've been here since the beginning. You're a valued individual to me, and to a great many other people. 💜

I always watch your videos with a sense of delight. To be able to relate to someone really does help. I’ll never understand all the criticism and abuse people give you because all I see is a strong independent woman trying to change her life for the better of herself and others. I met you once at summer in the city London and remember speaking specifically about change and how I thought you hadn’t well I was wrong because you have Emma but only for the better every time I watch you or listen to your music I see another part of your talents shine. I know I’ll never get the chance to sit there and say thank you in person for giving me that someone that helps, that someone who has shaped me and been part of the reason why I am person I am today. So again thank you Emma! I wish you every success from now and into the future because if it wasn’t for you I certainly wouldn’t be able to sit here and be proud of who I am.

This was so nice! I can rarely sit through Q&A’s from anyone. But you have such a sincere and heartfelt energy in this video, it pulled me in and I watched the whole thing, and honestly, you’ve had this energy in a lot of your recent videos. I’ve been watching you probably since around 2014, and I ALWAYS really liked you, I’ve always found you really cool and genuine. I remember watching a video you made about liking your body because it gets you from A to B, and another you made about appearances (it was a collab video where you intentionally weren’t wearing makeup) and they just blew my mind haha. They really influenced how I perceive myself, even though I still of course struggle a lot, I always have that mentality in the back of my mind, that my body deserves respect because it’s MY body, it’s doing it’s job for me, I can’t waste my life hating it. Anyway, you’ve always been cool, you’ve always been thoughtful and likeable, but it’s really clear that you’ve matured over the years (as have I, growing up watching you) and you’ve just become probably the most sincere and self-reflecting UA-camr I watch. I don’t know how to word this in a way that doesn’t sound corny lol but I really respect your heart and you as a person. Anyway it’s good to see you back with another video 😊

You're a great person, and I'm glad you're enjoying people like your music. I get the feeling of worrying no one is paying attention to your new songs as much as old? I think with you, your music is SO vast and hits loads of different sub-genres so a lot of people can enjoy certain aspects of your music? I feel with you, every album is different and has different themes so there will be fans who only like certain songs, while others will see all your songs as great. I've been here for quite a lot of years, I was a 16-18 year old (I can't remember, it was roughly around either the end of my gcses or beginning of my A levels) when I first discovered you through, Ironically, my friend who watched Dan? He was a huge fan, and told me about this female youtuber who dyed their hair a lot, and how I'd like that youtuber's sarcasm and sass. That youtuber? It was you. I'm now 23 and still here, still watching your videos and sometimes interacting on your videos to let you know how proud I am for you and how lovely it is to grow with you and watch you find your comfort!
Thanks for sticking around, Emma. Seriously. Loving your videos, this one had a peaceful vibe, looking forward to listening to Crying because I have a feeling it'll be relatable as heck and a good bop! Especially for car trips and summertime.

I've seen you go through all sorts of things, and I admit I left/unsubbed when you were going through your bitterness callouts and excessive snark. But something drew me back to your channel within the last year or two. And you've improved SO much. I'm so happy for you. I just hope you're honestly in a happy place yourself- mentally, emotionally. You seem to be doing way better, and I'm really hopeful you are. I'm so happy you've continued making music, too. My favorite song will always be "Perfect", though. I listen to that when I feel inadequate, ugly, unwanted, and judged. It always helps me feel better. (Also I too miss the sense of a strong friendly community like UA-cam was back then. Shame that it's gone to shit though. I think artists tend to want their fans to like their newest and latest work more as opposed to their old work because, in your mind you've already moved on from it, your style has evolved and anything current you feel like "well this is much better than my old stuff, I made so many mistakes with that or I could have done that better" etc. I speak from experience because I'm a professional photographer I have an MFA in advertising photography and I've done many fine art projects as well...I had this one body of work I did when I was in college that was a total hit. It was something I really enjoyed working on at the time but eventually I moved on from that because it got old to me obviously. I couldn't just keep doing that same thing over and over. But I still had many people years later only bring up that one series and how much they loved it but they really had nothing to say about what I was working on at the time. I don't know that it really bothers me, I do feel proud of it and I'm pretty pleased that people still think about it. I could see how something like that may make someone feel like their ideas since haven't been any good, but personally my creative mind works in cycles...or something, that's the best way to describe it...I have been really busy the last several years building a business and I will continue to be busy running it for awhile because I'm simply trying to get money to fund my future creative projects, and I'm never in a hurry to force myself to be creative that just doesn't work for me. I think my best ideas come from life experience anyway..so what I'm trying to say is I don't feel bad about it because I know I will be creating many pieces of art throughout my life and I hope different pieces speak to different people..if someone will remember me for that one project I did forever ago I think that's cool. Love ya Emma! I loved Blossom and I'm looking forward to Crying!

Discovered you back in... Hell, I don't know, 2012? Something like that. And I feel that I stuck in because of the friendship sense that I get from the videos. I know that you don't know me, but I've been watching you for so long and you are still the same person that I though you were that I kinda miss you when I don't watch a video of yours for a long time.
