Pulling guard for wrestlers is super underrated. Instead of wasting your energy shooting and getting stuffed, You essentially force them to bring their legs to you. If you wrestle up from there, it throws a lot of guys off especially at the blue/purple level.
Awesome matches against some serious competition. I love your content as you have some of the best wrestling I've seen out of all the bjj influencers. Always learn a lot watching u
This is why I think ADCC and EBI rule set is a true form of grappling because it shows standing , top, bottom game , and finishes not just point tournaments. Wrestlers tend to do good in these local tournaments ( I’m a wrestler when I started too) I hate the thought of wrestlers going to a grappling tournament to just wrestle because it’s point based… you should should do those style tournaments ! I learned the hard way that there’s levels 😅 that’s why I said that! But I follow and love your content 🙏🏽
I think because the game is changing so much with guys at blu belt being high level engaging in leg locks I think reaping should be allowed at this point
I have a question. How long have you been training and competing in bjj?! Maybe you should try sparring with Alex kimura. Who have a brown belt in bjj and black belt in judo. Also was a high school wrestler.
And yes he have the same last name as kimura the judoka and pro wrestler who gave us the name in bjj to what is called ude garama in judo and double wrist lock in catch wrestling.
And yes according to historians pro wrestling was a $hoot ( legit) until 1920s. Even though submission catch wrestling got started in carnival. But Greco Roman ( really FRENCH wrestling) also got started in carnival. In fact jean Exbrayat ( the founder of Greco Roman) did his flat hand wrestling in FAIRS( carnival) . And in old days there was also professional Greco Roman wrestling. You decide whether it was a $hoot or work( scripted). And suplex came from "fake" Greco Roman wrestling ( remember it was also part of carnival and pro wrestling).
Real Greco wrestling was called Pale and it DID have submission. And ancient Greek also had Pankration ie MMA. Pankration meant all strength in ancient Greek. The first carnival wrestler in UK was Yukio Tani. And Mr. Tani probably introduced submission to catch wrestling in UK. While the japanese came to USA in 1930s or EARLIER. And American catch wrestling had submission since 1860s.
I hate butt scooting. Although I admit bjj had defeated most grapplers. Including the catch wrestlers( Since freestyle wrestling and folkstyle wrestling were once known as amateur catch wrestling. And in 1930s-1940s double wrist lock was used in amateur wrestling as a pin).

Shin to shin double leg baby
I used to be a wrestler and I always pull guard into single leg takedowns
It’s true

I agree ADCC rules are best
I also like eni rules. ALL submission allowed. Including neck and spine lock.
Ryan 🤝 Aljamain Sterling
Lmao all jokes, congrats on the W man!
Who needs weapons for self defense when you’re a BJJ badass
Epic video, great job Ryan
Thanks Phil!
cinematography on point 😤👍🏼💪🏼
Great vids man subbed. Good coach actually wanting the scrap, not celebrating a DQ win like you won ADCC or something lol
Aye thanks man!
Some great insights man, this is cool
Thanks man!
I saw the Russian tie snap attempt in the 2nd match. 👏🏼 I’ll give you some pointers at class this week 😂
😂 I’m glad you noticed. Left that in the video just for you
Heeyyyyyy heavy handed highlight reel here had me hangin on til the podium finish💰💰
The ref in the first match is my professor lol😂
I’m happy with it. Excellent work.
Well done! 👏
Good work man! Congrats!
The reaping rule is so dumb and outdated. Frustrating to see a good match end with that!
Agreed! Hopefully him and I bump into each other again under a more up to date rule set

Grappling industries allows reaping at blue lol
And kneebars, calf slicers, and toe holds. I won a blue belt match a couple weeks ago with a toe hold lol.

I’ve been training bjj for a year and a half. Did my first competition after 3 months
@@RyanJuliano Well that impressive. Now ibjjf said if you wins a competition you CAN get INSTANT promotions.
Great job. At what weight class do you compete?
Thanks! This comp I was at 168 lbs
2nd guy looked pissed lol
Awesome 👍

He was not attacking the knee by the way, wasn't he? The opponent
are you chewing gum in match 3 ??
Do you like wrestling or bjj more?
That’s a tough question. I’d have to go with wrestling, but it’s really close
