I think the layout is big enough as it is, with plenty of industries and room for scenery. The scenic block along the back is very effective, giving the illusion that the train is at some other location. Impressive design.
Congratulations on your year anniversary. I have really enjoyed watching and have learned a lot. I like your spacing on the layout. Had some questions: 1. How do you make roads? 2. When you first got the shelf brackets, it looked like you put one on every stud. Now it looks like you have 2 per section. So what's up with that. Are two brackets per segment all you need? Please discuss :) So many awesome things I have picked up watching your videos: - shelf brackets. I would rather use my time to do other things than becoming a competent carpenter. Have been using the WS mod-u-rails. These brackets are a better solution. - backdrop to hide the loop: great idea. - the spacing and scale of industries. I like the amount of room between significant features. - non-kato track is not as hard as I thought... I avoided flex track because I didn't think I could pull it up and change stuff. Some suggestions. I am total beginner, but have learned some things watching too many videos. - Industrial park buildings: put something between the floors and the front/back walls so you can't see through. - Some kind of office for the cement plant. Some place for the employees to go smoke or the customers to place their orders. - Name the industries? The mine, sawmill, and engine house tell their own story by looking at them. The others need a bcak-story. - Something on the peninsula plateau to stretch your skills? You can do already awesome wooded hills. How about a town? Maybe with a tram (or a Z/TT-scale mini-layout). - Seems like your new yard could use a longer yard lead. Maybe loop in from the other side or use the run-around for a lead. I think your layout is plenty big for now.. Thanks for the inspiration and the You-que intros! Sorry for the long comment.
HA! I truly appreciate the enthusiasm! 1. See my how-to video on how I make roads, its from January I think 2. The benchwork is so light, and the brackets are so heavy duty - that I went overkill with the brackets. If I expand again, I will need more brackets - and will take them from the existing layout, as they arent necessary. 3. The mod-u-rail was fun - but clunky and not big enough and pricey compared to what you can build yourself. See my previous layout build where I used them 4. Backdrop and spacing are essential to a realistic layout, in my opinion. 5. Used bachmann and kato track, Both are GARBAGE. I dont care if I piss off the many Kato diehards. Never again will I use a plastic base. Atlas Code 80 flex, and Peco turnouts are the way to go. 6. Industries/windows/buildings/names - all being worked on as we speak. 7. Yard has been reworked completely since the last video. Made some major changes to the layout as a whole - you'll see in the next update. Much love for the questions and comments. I live for this stuff, keep it coming. Cheers Bro
One of my favorite layouts to date ! The only thing that concerns me is track cleaning behind the hidden part of the back layout. I also was a little upset with the weak intro 😜
Good point! The 2 pieces are removable with 1 screw each and its no chore at all to clean the track back there. takes about 15 mins total to remove back drop pieces, clean track, and re install!
The intro pulled me in and I couldn't leave😁 Great layout & subbed. Ben.
welcome! the intro tends to get better each time!

Remarkable...Very good work... You could consider starting to make your own trees, I have doing that recently... Very satisfying...

Love it! Intro is next level :D congrats on one year of the new layout. Very nice scenery and overall progress. Awesome track weathering. Nice vid! :)
thank you for all the compliments my friend!!!!
I like your layout! I don't blame you for not wanting to block those doors. Liftouts and duckunders get old really fast!
thats what im thinking! i want to make a big staging yard somewhere, not sure where though now lol
