  • Finding a speech therapist to support speech delay in toddlers: toddlertalk.com/blog/how-to-f...
Let’s jump to the end, because I want you to have this video and these resources right away!
If you feel like your child might need a little bit of extra help in their speech development because they aren’t saying sounds we would expect for their age or because they are hard to understand, I want to be sure you know the steps to take.
You’ll want to talk to your child’s pediatrician who can connect you with professionals in childhood speech development. You can find these same connections through your state’s early intervention program. To learn about the 2 different options read more here: toddlertalk.com/blog/how-to-f...
A hearing test with an audiologist is a very important first step. Even if your baby passed their newborn hearing screening it’s important to check their hearing again. We want to be sure they can hear all the different sounds we are trying to teach them; it’s possible they may hear some sounds but not others if they have ear infections or other conditions that may impact their hearing.
A visit with a speech language pathologist for a speech therapy evaluation is the next step. The speech therapist will be able to identify any challenges your child may be facing in developing their speech and come up with a plan for how to best support them.
