The fact that these destructive flaws of VHS are now considered nice really makes me old :D I remember watching VHS movies at home, on our VCR, I remember recording TV shows and movies from TV, and I remember home video. VHS was still widely used in early 2000's, which I still remember as a kid, to some extent I remember the very last year of 1990's - or at least the last month of 1999. I remember the 2002 floods in Czechia like it was yesterday. I was a small kid back then. Jeez, I'm really getting older :D VHS begun to fade away in 2006-ish, with the massive flood of DVD players and recorders and a massive floods of movies distributed on DVD. Now DVDs are getting obsolete, even Blu-Rays are getting obsolete. It wasn't even that long since Blu-Rays came out, I guess it was around the same time DVDs begun to flood the market, but it took them around 5 years to get traction, so it was really just 2010-ish when Blu-Rays became more popular, alongside with DVDs, and now they're going away. Not sure why. But the fact we're returning back to the old fashioned looking video that gives out the VHS vibes again, oh man! :D I need to get a working VCR, so I can watch some tapes we have home still :D
I just read an interview with the creator on Wired, the thing is, you can't save the original video "without the filter"... because it's not a filter.
This thing is an emulator. It's basically thousands of layers of processing done on the GPU in real time, which are recorded onto a file.

That's kinda the point of the app I guess. I would be actually curious if I could somehow pre-record the original video, and then process the pre-recorded file.
The music is what makes it
It works really well. I got it. It's actually 3 dollars, not 4. Well worth the purchase. It has the normal generic VHS look but there is also a multi-color filter and a black and white filter.

Some of this is true but some of it isn't- meaning the picture quality being grainy and lines going through picture only happened if over the years it was watched over and over
I still have VHS tapes and one of them from 1985 + 86, And some of it is grainy and other parts are really clean looking and clear

That's exactly it. The grainy stripes and noise is actually caused by combination of dust, scratches and mechanical stretching of the tape. Mechanical stretching also causes fluctuation of the playback speed, which is very noticeable if the tape is re-recorded from another tape. Nothing really beats the actual thing. If you are going for a found footage style that should look like it was taken in 1980's, then you should really go for a real camcoder and use a real VHS tape, for authenticity. Yes, it will be more expensive, but it will look far more convincing.

Hilarious because i have a 1988 Magnavox camcorder and the video quality is crystal clear. not grainy .....

it looks too fake, there's nun of the subtle imperfections(god that sounds pretentious). also, the film quality is too crisp and detailed. its not convincing to me

Josh M also uploading that to UA-cam costs alot of money with paying for the converter to convert them to mp4 so you can get them on your computer it adds up and plus the old cameras are heavy And these cameras could cost alot on eBay most are black and white and plus VHS is dead and no one makes VCRs anymore you could buy them used but theres chance it don't work converting a VHS tape to mp4 format requires a VCR and a computer those converter could 100s of dollars 50 at best it's not worth it I know you want actual lines but that adds up VHS camcorder app is the cheapest way to make VHS videos VHS camcorders may be cool but alot of money besides VHS is outdated although it's cool
