- Let's take a look at VHS cameras from way back when! A non comprehensive look at VHS and the novelty of owning one.
Thanks to synthartist69 for his music! - Наука та технологія
I wish there was a "modern" remodeled VHS camera similar to the new polaroids that are out. I still want the grainy 90's aesthetic and cassette tapes but there are none.
Golden Boy you can buy these things on ebay or amazon
@@unknownsoul4195 Funny, back in the day we were obsessed with getting the cleanest signal. Now we have filters to dirty up your video.
@@michaelweigel8253 the inbetweeen is nice

if I got one ,how would I transfer the videos to a computer
I really want to make a music video with one of these monsters.
Kentiapalme look at jojis yeah right music video I think it was filmed by one of these.
cuc o his was probably filmed on a smaller vhs c or hi8 camcorder, the rapper bones also does a lot of his videos with old vhs camcorders.
same too
Listen to BONES - sixteen he shoots his vids with vhs cams
i want to make a movie with one.
The camera transforms modern life into 80s/90s life lol
I think you know what he means you hambone
In all fairness, modern cameras have lots of buttons too, they're just hidden behind sleek front ends on an option screen.
But I love the "wow this is n expensive piece of kit" feeling you get with old VHS cameras, like you have to treat them with respect, unlike modern cameras where it's shoot and move on.
***** Agreed
How do you turn it into digital?
Hello, you!
Oh. no worries. I did take the time to correctly put away my $8,000 camera back then. Man, how you handle your equipment..

Love your video. Am going to share with students in a class I teach. Thanks!
This is really awesome! The 4:3 aspect ratio really takes me back. Thanks for sharing your story.
Such a great video, thanks for making this! :)
Thank you!! glad you liked it!
The bit with the pistachios had me nearly in tears laughing. Good job, mate.
Killer vid. Thanks for the info and laugh. Nostalgia is a very powerful emotion. I'm sure talented folks will keep using this technology for ages.
AMAZING video. I can't thank you enough for this
PS: Why do you throw them so respectless aroud??? There arent much of them anymore.Didnt find any onebay at this age. They were rather expensive. And so not sold so often in the beginning of this segment.I think they have real museum-quality.
Wrong they are on sale for cheap
@@markusbonnet439 Panasonic one is quite rare camera, it uses vacuum tube video sensor instead of CCD
An advantage to those hefty shoulder cameras was that you looked very official. In early 80s, no one even knew what a video camera was or had even heard the word "video" before, so I could literally walk into any event or stadium for free and everyone assumed I was suppose to be there. Back then, people were MUCH less suspicious of a stranger with a camera, as they usually smiled, waved and asked "what channel is this gonna be on?" It feels SO much more pro and satisfying to hug a camera on your shoulder, instead of palming a toy in your outstretched arm like every tourist.
The best feature is being able to manually zoom and focus by physically twisting the lens with your fingers, to personal effect. Sometimes you want to crash-zoom or rack focus on the fly, and that puts you in precise control instead of hoping a robot knows what you want to focus on.
I could capture more spontaneous reactions by holding the camera at my hip, and looking down into the upturned viewfinder with the eye-cover open, so the camera was less obtrusive than at eye level, causing people to pay less or not attention to me, and assumed I was just adjusting something and not actually recording.
I still have a couple of those, mid-80s cameras, and every model had at least one cool, weird feature/gimmick that no other camera had, in attempt to compete in a new market. My Olympus VX-S405-U has an odd "gain" button that sorta mimics the look of grainy 24fps film, that arty farts always thought was cool. Nothing else looks like it.
i remember in the 90s when i was kid, my dad used to have one. i will put in on my shoulder and pretending that it was some kind of lazer bazooka that you shoot alien with. lol
The 1985 Panasonic Camcorder audio sounds perfect 👌🏻👍🏻
Panasonic was king back then.
i'm like 1 minute and 13 seconds into my first video of you and i'm sold.
Awesome... love the vids!
lollolol yr adorbs! this is exactly what i was looking for thx for posting!
I'm 35 and you make me feel old as shit. BUTTONS AND CASES ARE GREAT! It really did get that vaporwave aesthetic the kids are into these days.
This episode is so different from the rest of the series in a really great way! You should make more of the videos in a comedic style like this. At least, that's one man's opinion
that was fun to watch, i am glad you we kind to them at then end
How did you get this onto your computer to edit it? I'm thinking of doing a film on VHS but wanted to know how you edited the footage?
Scott Goldberg Probably the Canopus ADVC 110. You'll need Firewire.
VCR with composite to hdmi Then use an elgato
same way people do VHS rip. Google it or search on youtube.
if you wanna go the semi-pro way and spend some money, get one of those blackmagic analog to sdi converters and a blackmagic pci sdi capture card to edit the raw footage on your pc. If you wanna record off the vhs tape make sure to use a tbc (time base corrector) before going in the capture card.
@@maxmustardman298 is there any UA-cam videos explaining this more in depth?
this is the best video I've seen so far from this guy
More buttons than the cockpit of a nasa space shuttle hahahaha. This is the funniest review ever but also very informative.
Excellent - I love this. Hilarious!!
One reason for so many buttons and cables...is that these were made to also be a standalone VCR in case you didn't have one. (& its better to have the buttons than not have them. The cables are to hook it up to a TV or another VCR. You don t carry them around while you are shooting. Back when we only had one VCR in the house...I used to hook the camcorder up to the VCR to copy tapes. I know you probably know that, but other people here might not.
Nice! I bought a "Blaupunkt CR-1000"(1985)some months ago on a fleamarket.Works perfect
Attack of the Killer Bröchens had me at the edge of my seat.
The Angry Retro Camera Nerd?
Millenium Was thinking the same thing hahaha
3:33 awesome shot, like a decent smartphome of the 2010s
This is gold
I loved it!
love your videos bro! really funny style and great info. keep up the good work :)

+South West Florida Aerial sweet man! BTW, it's too not to.
Wow, this was pretty fun. Great video (even though it's a tad old?). Now, I'll explore your recent videos. Cheers!
Awesome! I've been experimenting with even older cameras the ones that use vidicon tubes. (Sony HVC 4000p and Hitachi VKC600) Image lag, comet trails and trippy colors love it! I'm using a Sony VRD-MC5 DVD recorder running off 12v batteries to takes videos out in the field. Though I did use a laptop with an easycap at first!
Yes! I try to get those tube cameras every time I see them at flea markets and thrifts. I have a glorious boxy RCA Newvicon from '82 and a Quasar from '80. The Quasar tube is near dead, but it makes some beautiful dreamy footage.
This video might be 9 years old, but it's pure fucking gold.
love the vintage look they give. its why im plannign to get a vhs camera soon
That Sharp looks a lot like my RCA camcorder from 1986. Which...was also sold by Sears, and Hitachi, and possibly also Sharp for all I know.
Yes, I have a Hitachi version of that exact camcorder
(It’s broken, and I tried to fix it and all it did was piss me off)
Gotta love that old home movie look vhs gives, i'm considering picking up one or two of them now with the price they're at
I’m watching this in 2023 and this dude was so ahead of his time.
dayum this youtuber is underrated. subscribed.
Awesome video brooo :)
pretty rad...keep it unique, and we shall watch.
I literally subscribed just because how fuckin funny this video was! awesome man!
I subbed as soon as I finished this video.
You made my day ^^
That's some sharp quality
the vintage video is perfect for like a break dancing or mob film
Great job on the review!!! :D haha laughed my asss off :D
I have that same Hitachi VHS. Also the RCA CPR250 which is the same, but different names. Too bad it's not working.
haha! I just recently learned that mines is a Sears, not Hitachi. I had fixed my cameras. They all work now. Just my CPR-250 is not 100% works. But almost works now!
Wow I'm may be 3 years late but it's fancy meeting you here Gilbert. Just wanted to say how much I love your video, when I watch them its as if I was there to experience those memories. Except for me they are memories I never had to due to me being born in the late 90's but glad there people like you to take the time and share your precious moment in the 80's with the world. Stay Rad my dude.
Fatally Kinky Agreed!!
What are you talking about??? The video quality on your '85 camcorder looks great!! I can't wait to make my own home movies on my RCA DSP3 once it comes in the mail! Livin' back in time is so much fun!!! :D
pure gold
YT:Ok let's recommed it during this time of pandemic
I found a Panasonic Omnimovie at my local thrift store today and gave it a loving home. Now all I need are some actors and a script...
Lucky find.. is it working fully? I have got so many cameras off ebay the last 2 years it's now really a massive collection... and I love it! Post videos on random ones being used most weeks.
looks dope
Wow they had some awesome looking cars in 1985 lol.
I got a scholarship to film school...but it was a wrestling schlarship and I majored in film at a university.
My mom.bought me a camcorder and a garage in 1999 2000. It was great I watched whatever I filmed back then in vhs. It was great
Hilarious video!
Can you share more info on your setup using the battery in the backpack and video converter to your laptop
2:32 I love This qualityyyyyyyy 😍😍😍
Great! Thanks!
Ha, ha, ha. Great video! I LMAO. I starting shooting video in that era. So true.
The pictures coming from the Panasonic look really cool! Instead of having a CCD image sensor, it has a newvicon tube. So you would get what is known as the comet effect when passing by a bright light source. To me, that just adds to the whole 80's look and feel.
I have always wanted one of thees!
Just got a magnavox movie maker at a thrift store for $10. Works perfectly. Even built in mic is perfect. Just need to order a battery. Still fun to mess around with when plugged into ac.
True words my friend. Seems like we are now in the era of recording and loosing that footage like in a year and no physical content is saved. Cool cameras btw, I got 2 cameras that was on my grandfather's basement for years along with VHS and vhsc tapes that I'm now digtalizing for the family. The Panasonic (vhsC) is the only one working because the sharp (VHS) seems like it won't charge anymore.
This made me laugh my ass off. Thanks
Please keep making videos like this lol
I hope you held onto that Panasonic PV-2000. Those early Newvicon-sensor cameras were heavy-duty, high quality.
I own a Hitachi VM 1800A from 1995 (older then me) and sadly I think it’s tape mechanism is also dying (not the best way to fix things but I did notice that if I gave it a good smack it’d start taping again. I find that odd. It will also produce a usable picture when I hook it to my TV! It hurts the shoulder to use it for an extended period of time though.
That shoulder foldout is for support when your recording. You put it on your shoulder. Back when things were much difficult to produce and use and nowadays technology is made to be easy for everyone.
They are actually great for music videos.
what do you do for external power supply? I hate having to plug it in to the wall.
You had me in two seconds.
Yeah, I think the images are really unique that VHS makes. In a way its pretty.
Man I want one!
do not worry about the camcorder release!
I fucking love your humor :D
1:50 That is used to hook to a TV back in the days before cable.
mystery solved!! Thanks Eric!
Daniel Lachman Check out a really old TV and you's see "antenna" on the back. That one looks like it might be an adapter for a tv not ready for cable. I had one for my very first TV.
Wow I thought that was put in there for comedic effect. I actually new that from school weirdly enough, because I'm born in 92. But I chose film and acting as an extra course in high school. Mind you, I'm from Sweden.
is it possible to make footage look like that with a modern camcorder? i found some blank vhs tapes and vcr at the thrift store and thinking of recording footage onto the tapes using a micro-usb to av adapter.
HEYYY MAN LOOK GREAT VIDEO FUNNY AND VERY informative, what camera did you used to film this video???
lmaooooooooooooo i lost my shit on the buttons part
how does this man only have 10k subs
haha. If your time machine broke down at 1986 with no way to go back to 2015. You wont be laughing anymore. You will need to save for a year for that one you have. LOL funny
Pretty good video quality
Bought a Sharp VHS-C camera today, but the eject button doesn't work... I can't load any tape in it... Is there a solution? Or am i doing something wrong?
I would google that specific model or non-ejecting bays for vhs. There's no guarantees with old cameras. Though the panasonic brand camera do tend to hold up the best.
this was fucking awesome! I subscribed!
I feel bad for the guy holding that GIANT camcorder
I have that same white Panasonic one. The actual camera in it is messed up, leaving 30% of the screen blank. 8 minutes in of playing a tape it jams up, but fixes itself. Luckily I have a clone of this camera, in red made by JCPenny. That one works perfectly.
Hey mate, the images were pretty good. And yes, they looked interesting because they looked different to flat shit filmed today with modern tech. Nice one.
I just bought one of those, how did you upload VHS on your computer? thanks
Those Sony DSL 500 are pro cameras. Very funny video.
What type of cables you use to transfer the image to de pc to record ?
its mad how even tho its modern backset, it looks still like 1990s
Hi, I need your help if you can, I have a the same Panasonic camera, but I don't remember how to play (send the signal) on a TV or to a computer, I have tried with the RCA video/audio cables that to on to the charger but still no luck, is there a button on the camera I need to push or something? if you can tell me how you do it, I will appreciated, thank for your time, and good video, keep it up.
I should get one of these and shoot with it just for shits... You could win at cinematography because people will wonder how the hell you replicated vhs!
hahahahaha bro that intro killed me
