Mr. Vickers, I see you’ve been working out and getting in shape, looking good sir. Keep up that hard work because it shows. I remember your video where you discussed all your injuries and how that all played a roll in your life and why it’s been a struggle for you to stay fit, I’m glad you’ve been able to work around those issues. Hope all stays well with you and yours moving on into the new year. God bless.
I have a new Apollo 11, and the grip safety is my issue... It's wonky when you don't grip it right and the safety stays partially engaged and won't feed. I want this to be my duty gun because when I grip it down all the way it's amazing. Thanks brother for this huge tip.. I believe it solves all my problems
I’ve got orangutan size hands and had this exact issue with my Colt 1911 model 1991... had no idea what to call it. Local gunsmith installed a Wilson “high ride” extended beaver tail with memory bump, tuned to engage just a little ways in. Made all the difference. Very informative video, thanks!
Been looking in to getting 1911 for my self when I turn 21 my grandpa loved em and I was a little confused on the grip safety and how it worked up untill now thanks
You touch in a very important point about 1911. I like this platform very much but the grip safety is the only thing I dont like very much because the problems you just mentioned. I had to adjust my pistol's beaver tail because I was having that pocket problem you mentioned when my thumb was above the safety. Anyhow I think the best solution would be a thicker beaver tail. I think the whole beaver tail extension could be as high as that bump in its base but thats not easy to find on the market.
Great info. My grip safety only need be pushed about 25% of its travel to free up the trigger. I thought that was too little, but you say no more than half the travel so I guess mine is pretty good.
Great tip.. people pin them down in some circumstances. I love 1911's and own one. But the grip safety is my only pet peeve with the design. Exactly why I don't care for XD's.. I find myself having to adjust my grip to much! Thanks as always LAV! Love these types of tips! ✌
Mr. V, I'm surprised to see you bring this up. I realize the potential for trouble exists, but in all my years of 1911 ownership and use, I've never had a failure to engage or disengage, nor have I come across any second hand reports. How frequently does grip safery grip become a problem in your estimation?
im surprised we haven't gotten a video on how Mr.vickers is just dropping weight seriously. diet, workout plan something. could just almost make a small vlog.
I just got my Rock Island Officer model 1911 and I can not disengage the grip safety if my thumb is riding on top of the other safety. My hands are medium large and the padding of my hand just doesn't press enough onto the grip unless I let my right thumb move off the safety down to the grip itself which allows me to squeeze the grip enough to disengage the grip safety.
I just recently traded for a Kimber Ultra Carry II and I have some problems activating the grip safety sometimes with me really high grip i like to have with it, One reason I'm leaning more towards selling it to build a Polymer 80 Glock for the heck of it
Thanks for this video. I guess I'll take my RIA tac ultra fshc 45acp 14 round pistol to my gunsmith then. I'm actually having to use three 🤏🏻 small and thin rubber bands wrap around my grip safety
Hope my question gets thru. I've seen you in the past demo putting the firing hand thumb on top of the thumb safety when you draw and fire your 1911. I'm ambidextrous and I'm very pissed when I see top of the line 1911s without an ambidextrous thumb safety. I train with both hands just in case my right hand gets damaged. Is it that expensive for these high end gun makers to put in an ambi safety? I and many shooters out there in the real world do not like to "Order" guns, nor do we like to find what we want at a gun dealer and then have to "Special" order a part that should already be on a 1911 type gun. I don't expect an answer but it would be nice if you would pass my question onto your expense gun making buds. Congrats on your weight loss. You look great. Hope the weight loss has helped with some other issues.
