with a £350 van, un less you set fire to it or blow the engine up any thing you do will add value , sorting out the running issue, polishing it ,painting the wheels and cleaning it must have doubled the value and cutting back faded paint is very satisfying, look forward to seeing it on the road 👍
Going into limp mode over 3k revs is likely to be the Turbo Wastegate is stuck. Just needs freeing up by exercising it by using a long bar from underneath. 👍
Best thing I have found for bumpers has been autoglym bumper and trim gel. The green one with a sponge rub it in and it lasts ages! Really enjoyed the video. I’m doing similar at the moment.
@@jamiegibson5551 I’ve been using that for years and have to agree. The AG vinyl and rubber care can make an even better shine if you let it dwell, but doesn’t last as long as the gel!
You have to wipe the plastics as you heat gun them. You’re essentially bringing all the oils up to the surface. If you don’t wipe it goes patchy and back to how it was before. It’s easier to use a product. Some decent stuff on Amazon. But turtle wax trim and bumper lasts a good amount of time.
For the bumpers and trim I used cherry blossom boot polish. I did my freelander trim 3 years ago and still good. Cost me £1 from Poundland and less than an hours of brushing........sorted 👍🏻
Should have sent those wheels off to Prestige Wheels in Bredbury and then ordered a new set of plates from Harrods. Appreciating the fckd Onitsuka Tigers though
I reckon that has come up pretty well, given where it started. The improvement in the paint must have been very satisfying. I like Owatrol for restoring black plastic trim. It's oil based so lasts well compared to some of the other trim products and doesn't look overly shiny. It might help with the patchiness you have on the bumper.
After 2008 the Combo was named 1700 but had the 1.3cdti engine. Confusing naming. Most probably you are seeing the model as 1700 not the engine size. I have had many over the years and that's a 1.3 engine. You will want to put a corsa passenger seat in the van thats on rails. The Royal mail seats are fixed in position.
@@TyredFormat Search Google for corsa steering stalk adapter (connects2 CTVX001 is the one I have)...about £40...you do need a head unit with a 3.5mm jack remote input though
Yes I did own 3 of those little vans and in my opinion one of the better small vans out there was never designed to take part in the world rally but a really great van
The rear cargo bay interior lights are on a timer .go out after a few mins .press switch to put em back on ..I have an 11 plate 1.3 .but on dvla check comes up 1.7.
The full power then drops into limp type mode is the turbo actuator sticking, give it a good spray with penatrating oil, proble solved. Common fault on combo.
I had a ex royal mail vauxhall vivaro found the old tracker box same as you did under passenger dash, had same faded paint and my drivers door was knackered. No history but run like new
We had a 58 plate 1.3d royal snail van. That switch was for an internal light. Loved ours and was great on fuel. Shame you felt like you are sat on the floor. Deffo looks like the 1.3?
I have one exactly same even the WM08 starting reg! i paid £1100 for mine tho with 120k on it, that switch in the back can be removed and the wires to it go under the bottom plastic under the back doors, once you disconnect it from the connector the rear door lights work as normal, that 1.3 engine is suprisingly quick for what it is 🤣
Worked for Royal Mail from 1970 to 2018,drove all sorts of vans over the 40 odd years, but got to say the combo was one of the best, real workhorse, had a brand new 08 one,had it until I retired,I looked after mine like it was my own van,it was still on the road a couple of years ago, prob gone now,all vans now are electric, don't hear any of the boys saying any good things about them,
I see your garage works on the "deep litter principal" like mine. The older it is the further down the pile it is 😊 the heat gun trick only really works once, the second time it looks awful.
Can’t beat an old combo im sad. But love them ex network rail and bt was our thing back In the day wish I had a pound for every one my pal at the time bought set of cheap alloys on there corsa or Mervia bolt straight on
Pfft that's in better condition than mine and I paid £1600. However that switch is a courtesy switch for the rear lights. They turn off after 30 minutes if you hit the switch you can turn them on again without closing the door
Think most people say the Astra Van of that era is a better overall van to drive etc. but I wanted a van with a side door and that limited me, as did my stupid budget! 😂
They’re not bad little vans if they’re running right it’s the Fiat engine number one it’s limited to 70 miles an hour so I would probably look into getting the limiter taken off plus remapping it at the same time number two that spanner light with the car on it means injectors or glow plugs or glow plug relay if the glow plugs are not right the van won’t be right because on them the glow plugs playing part of the running of the engine
I like this kind of content! No fancy cars, just beaters getting fixed! Can we see a video of you sorting out your garage next please?😂

You've never lived until you've hammerited your van wheels with a brush, been there, done it and totally approve!

Tier 1 driving shoe!
Limp mode over 3k is definitely turbo wastegate, I've done a replacement on mine, it lasted 3 years and now need to do again :D

Great job with the van so far, nice to see a traditional scrap yard you can roam around in to gather parts as well
It sure is. Not many left now! Thanks

I did the same but put in electric windows, front bumper, projectors and the same steering wheels as you, my buttons all work ;)

To get best results on bumpers do it with a blow torch
best small comercial youll ever have
Use roofing flashband as sound deadening. It's basically the same thing.
For a 2008 reg van it’s better condition than most of the current Royal Mail vans.
I used to work for Royal Mail. I think that switch is there for you to keep the lights on. Stop the lights from turning off after so long.
Yes that's exactly what that switch is for. My friend has same ex royal mail combo.
Yes I did own 3 of those little vans and in my opinion one of the better small vans out there was never designed to take part in the world rally but a really great van
I’ve been impressed so far. Plenty of space. Little 1.3 pulls fine too!
Great job mate, cant wait for part2

Looking forward to the next episode.
When I was a kid I hammerited my Grandads wheels on his Citreon AX... Thought you may have used some rust converter before painting
I imagine these wheels will be replaced at some point, but good practice would’ve been to do that for sure.

It’s the 1.3! Found out later that 1700 is the number they use for the 1.3 haha

You’re British it’s a British car.its a bonnet
Sticky actuator is reving issue usually.
Wd40 and brute force cures it
😂Should put a starsky & hutch white stripe on it

Amazing! My local postie occasionally runs around in a combo like mine. But the main workhorse seems to be the newer Berlingo/combo
Astramax was the best the p reg combos were not to bad
It would make a great mini campervan
Dont use heat gun on plastics it draws out natural oils in plastics and makes them more brittle. Just use back to black for plastics
I still see those being used by Royal Mail, oldest one I’ve recently was a 58 plate.
Ironically one pulled out on my mums Range Rover a couple months ago! Just as pink as this was too 😂
I see your garage works on the "deep litter principal" like mine. The older it is the further down the pile it is 😊 the heat gun trick only really works once, the second time it looks awful.
How can you work with all that clutter . 😂😂 I done exactly the same as you. I changed the seats and the flooring. Good luck to you 👍👍
what a transformation you have done well would be good to see if it passes a m.o.t great vid keep it up
Thanks, will do!

That workshop. 😦 You need some shelves mate, to get all that shite off the floor and from under Ur feet 👍
1700 is the size or model im sure mine said 1700 on the log book somwere but was a 1.3. Deffo. 1.7cdti will say 2000 on log book
Now you need to turn it into a stealth camper van.
This statement has dogging connotations
The switch would of been for a light in the back
Just started watching you got lucky with a lighting 13.53 you nearly gave everybody your address
I know what Royal Mail vans are like, especially the older ones
You could use the van to tidy up the shite in your unit😅
Its first job 😂
Fuck sake that engine bay 🤢 did someone drive that through a desert? Get it cleaned pronto

I want one, any links please?

Owatrol on the black plastic
Came up nice 👌
a blow torch is better to bring back plastic mate
Get a blowtorch instead of using a heat gun. Trust me, it's so so quick to do. Doesn't end up spotty either.
All PO vans are Factory Speed Restricted
Long Live Bart Gorek
proximity sensor switch interior lights

1.7 oil filter housing is not at the front. 1.3. shame cos they are terrible.head gaskets are known issue.1.7s run forever

blow torch on bumpers
Did you get that from a guy in Suffolk?
Where did you find a Van with 90,000 miles on it for £320 with a new water pump fitted ?
Most eBayers slam on a silly reserve price.
Gotta be patient. Finding cars that have bad adverts or end at hours people won’t be bidding is always a winner
