Your attention to detail for reviewing cameras is unmatched. Well done. Reolink sent me two of these and I came here to see how to setup/operate. Not disappointed at all. Well done.
Greetings from Torrance! I really liked the video and audio quality. Because of the limitations of walking towards the camera, I would recommend "aiming" the camera directly at the center of the backyard or front yard so the sensor can capture an object or person coming in from the sides. Unfortunately I wouldn't place the camera at the front door where packages could be stolen. But I think overall if you place this camera in the right spot where people could only come from the left or right, this is a home run. The motion detection from the side is very quick. This is still a good camera as long as it is in the correct place. Thanks again for another great review!
If the vertical fov was a bit wider it would be nice for higher up installs looking downward. good for installs around 1 story ceiling height 8 to 12 feet from ground. I would prefer the 811a over the duo. Great review like always.
@@LifeHackster The app is actually really nice, but rich notification would be even nicer. You review a _lot_ of Roelink cameras so maybe they would value your input.
Hope your going to get to review the Reolink doorbell camera it sounds promising if priced right. Also I wish they send you the Ezviz DB1C for review. I hope you get both because your reviews the most in depth out there. Thanks
@@LifeHackster They are asking for reviewers unfortunately you have have to have some kind of channel to be considered :( I need a doorbell cam just not sure like you say not one has it all
Wish these companies would make POE and USB powered cameras with the option to run off of a battery based on the application or as a backup power source. They could make more money by selling batteries and solar panels separately
The only thing with that is that wired camera rely on camera based or pixel based detection requiring for the camera to be ON all the time and that will drain its internal battery in a few hours.
Hey great video, I live busy city block. Can I draw the security area to receive only alerts for that area? If not which camera do you recommend wired wifi? Thanks
Hi @LifeHackster I love ReoLink cameras, have an argus3 pro which is great, charges itself with the solar panel, great resolution, great motion detection, quick to bring up a stream over 5ghz, no False Positives and always catches me for TP when ive tested. Only problemt is integration - if theres a detection in the middle of the night how does it wake me up? Android an iOS alarms are the same as a txt?!?!?!? no reccurring or loud alarms to wake me up. Also worst of all no integration with HomeAssistant so no integration with the rest of my setup. Google home integration doesnt allow any triggers to turn on lights or alarms. Can you pls put pressure on Reolink to sort this out pleas? Also - do you know of a good wirelessly activated floodlight/siren that you can just plug into a wall socket? thks v much, keep up the good work
Thank you for the fantastic review (as always)! I'm studing this camera to put in my living room (internally) to watch both the door and the windows. A few questions if you can kindly help: - Is it possible to rotate horizzontally the cam if mounted on the wall (I read somewhere a note that it is not possible when mounted on the ceiling but does not specifies if mounted on the wall)? - how long does the battery last without the solar panel? - Is it possible to keep it always connected to the electric power or this can damage the battery? The main power switch of the house is next to the door so I need a battery camera (otherwise if an intruder get inside my house he could easily switch it of) but being inside I can't rely on a solar panel being inside. - Is it possible to deactivate the cam from the app to save the battery? I'd like to activate it when I go out and deactivate it when I am at home - Is it possible to record the video directly on the mobile phone? Thanks for your patience!! :)
1. Yes either wall or ceiling install. 2. It will really depend on number of activations but give or take every 2-3 months. 3. Yes. It will continually top off the battery. 4. Yes, you can use the “scene” option on the app it just toggle the PIR sensor to off..so it will not detect, record or send notifications. 5. Yes, there is the camera icon in live view and it will record it and save it to your phone.
@LifeHackster what's the best battery power security camera do you recommend to buy. It's to replace a broken Reolink argus 2. I have been looking at the euffy one's, thanks
whaddup lifehackster! Big fan here. Wanted to ask you what you thought is the best wireless indoor/outdoor camera that can record 24/7? Not sure what is available. Only thing I can think of but wasn't sure was the argus 3 pro but I don't think they offer 24/7 recording. Only other option I can think of would be a solar panel w/ the new google nest camera? What do you think? Thanks in advance.
At 6:55 the quality screen displays the clear:2560x1440 and fluent:896x512. Can you select the one you want, if not then how do they get selected, and if not then what is the point of showing two different resolutions details?
The camera always record in 2 streams (clear and fluent) you can use fluent when network connection is not great but when you download the footage you need to select “clear” to download the full resolution.
Can you plug in the power to an outlet if you decide no longer to use the solar panel but instead an outlet? Or would I have to buy the WiFi version without battery to be able to power it with an outlet?
@lifehackster is reolink duo 2 battery/solar better than duo 1 for motion detection/notification speed for towards motion and max distance for motion detection?
Nice video I prefer the wired cam because this one has some delay with its motion notifications. I replaced it with a Ring cam. Also my ring cam has been drawing very quickly m. Any tips you could give me to fix it?
With the Ring cameras, if it is draining the batteries quick, the best solution would be a solar panel or be plugged in. Changing the settings in motion detection will only make it unreliable in detection.
Can't detect motion coming at the camera seems like a huge failure. Damn i just bought this camera and it hasn't arrived yet, wish I had of seen this review earlier :/
Thank you. I haven't seen or heard anything about them recently. They did contact someone from the city and they put up cameras/trail cams in our neighborhood for a couple of days and I guess they trap them.
Bought the Duo and Sensor Record settings have to be low or if there is no or low sunlight for 2 days the solar batteries go empty. Biggest waste of money if you can't use all the settings why make it solar?
PIR sensors at this time are the only low power sensor suitable for battery power use. I guess, there are better quality PIR sensors though because some cameras are more reliable than others.
Why there is not enough companies that offer Wifi, Battery powered cameras with solar panel support and that can record to NVR?...If someone steal my camera I would like to have a backup inside my house, and that I don't have to pay more for it.
Horrible cameras.....I bought 2 of these after seeing this review. Unfortunately these cameras don't work well in the Texas heat. Both cameras work fine while testing inside my home. Once outside the cameras will sometimes not connect, fail to play back video, play video poorly, freeze the live screen (verified by watching the time on video) and simply fails to record well. I now have to uninstall and send these back at my own shipping expense. FYI these were outside in 101° weather and about 98° on the other day. Would hate to see these in the 108° temps we recently had. ***I do not blame this review*** or lifehackster. Just my experience with these reolink duo 2 battery 5:54 cameras in TX. EDIT: THESE HAVE FULL 5G SIGNAL ON MY WIFI WHILE OUTSIDE FYI
Cant use a DVR, only SD card or subscription cloud service. 20 ft detection range is useless. I understand the limitations on running 24/7 in cloudy winter weather but I would think they could at least let it run all the time when the battery is fully charged and the solar input is good enough. Hell I would even like to see a time-lapse mode where it takes a snapshot every so often weather it's detected something or not. The bit about no DVR support is just a spit in the face. No real reason to omit this. Yeah I get it wants to sleep to save battery and some DVR systems won't cope but fix it on Reolink DVR's and let people know about issues when using others. Forcing me to use cloud storage to get any DVR functionality is just insulting. And no an SD card is not a replacement for a DVR, a savvy ne'er-do-well will just steal your camera and now you have no camera and all the video evidence is also gone. I know, it needs proper placement to work reliably. Thank you.
If you have to do all that, I would buy another camera.
Good audio / video quality, an advantage is the internal battery, at the price of 230 euros with the solar panel worth buying!

The curse of most battery cameras...motion detection and the speed it does it.
True...
