  • In this video, I compare hardtack with flatbread, and I show how to make it. I also talk about handling and storing it. My wife also taste tested it for the first time!
I love to make all kinds of breads. My favorite in sourdough... Check out my video on that one... or my flatbread.

Sounds like matza.... flour and water.
    Mix
Flatten to as thin as possible
    Poke holes
    Bake.
For Passover there are time constraints and special super "clean" watched dry flour is used.

      LOL
No, not spying. There are a lot of videos about this. Thats why I put, what I felt was, a few different twists in the video. I have been making sourdoug, sandwitch bread, flat bread... on and on for years... lots of fun!

O.K., this is driving me nuts! Does anyone know the name of the old Civil War tune playing in the background?

You need to make a hellfire stew with the hardtack just like the Civil War soldiers did.

I came pretty close to that by cooking some up with bacon as I mentioned in the video they did. It actually wasnt bad. I softened it up first then tossed it in a frying pan with bacon.

Would it still work if you used Almond Flour instead?

I dont know. It may. Giver a try! Being higher in oil than bread flour, it wont last as long though.

Problem, for hardtack... it may spoil faster. It will spoil faster, for sure, if you put anything with fat or oil in it...especially bacon. The only thing I want in my hardtack is flour, water and salt. I have seasoned flatbread, though.
