    Animals As Leaders, formed in Washington D.C in the year 2007, consists of three members, two eight string guitarists and a drummer. They are described as things from Progressive Metal (like Smokey said) to Jazz Fusion. As of this comment, the band is still together and making music. Releasing their first album, their self titled release in 2009, which holds this song. The meaning of CAFO is exactly what Smokey said at the end of the video, Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation. Just like CAFO, the rest of Animals As Leaders' songs consist of zero lyrics.
    I personally recommend their song Tooth and Claw, just as intense and interestingly complex as CAFO is

    CAFO is Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation. CAFOs are agricultural meat, dairy, or egg facilities where animals are kept and raised in confinement.

    My son loves these guys and I took him to Glasgow for his 18th, to see them support Between the Buried and Me. The absolute blast he had was one of my moments of great joy.

    Glad you finally got around to AAL. Yes, they are instrumental only and feature complex rhythms and meters. Try The Brain Dance, Woven Web, Arithmophobia, Tooth and Claw, and their newer stuff is great too.

    You ever do any more AAL, you need a video where you can see the hands. Tosin doing Woven Web live at NAMM is one of the best, or any of Matt Garska's live drum playthroughs.

      It is difficult to believe that humans can actually play this music until you've seen it for yourself. Matt Garstka's drum playtrhoughs are especially mindblowing.

      Gartska is above Carey. Don't get me wrong, Carey is great but Gartska is on another level. That's not even him playing on this song, BTW.

    Saw em live in like 2011, opening for BTBAM. Really contemplative set, crowd kinda was kinda just chill, vibing through most of the set, but then they finished off the set with this piece and the crowd went wild. Mosh pit started about halfway in, and i was up at the front, so i turned to look behind me and got popped in the nose. Good times.
    A kinda off-the-wall rec: Carpenter Brut “Turbo Killer”.

    You guys are now considered OG reactors. I watched something along time ago about how there are gravitational wormholes between parallel universes that pull people seamlessly between universes. The universes are so similar you will never notice. But occasionally the wormholes will cross paths to a universe and the person in a world that is completely different. One of the stories was a woman who broke up with someone years prior but woke up next to him and freaked out. She also said the us dollar wasn't green it was blue. There was much more to the story that I don't want to spend the time typing out.

    Love this band. While the self titled album definitely has some classics among the discography, the sound and composition have greatly improved with time. That said, the two hand tapped part of this song is the only AAL riff I have attempted to learn.
    I'd recommend The Brain Dance from 2016's The Madness of Many, or Physical Education from the previous record The Joy of Motion. The Weightless album is a personal favorite but it doesn't have any real standout "single" tracks. It just tickles my sci-fi nerd because of the concept. 🤷😎

      I´m a guitarist and i can understand why you feel it´s just random noise. But i can guarantee you, this is hard af to play. it´s more art than real music. Like Meshuggah & Co . It´s like listening to Car engines without liking cars at all ^^
      I can hear every single note in it. it´s very relaxing for me.^^

      @shanemason4031 Рік тому +1

      @@scrinbot I agree with you on the technical aspects of playing the music, my issue is, I would say is in the arraignment of the music, it just felt like it was pieces of different music put together randomly and chaotic sounding and never substain a rhythm or melody of a song composition. The musicians I believe are talented in their playing, I just think they could have composed and arranged it better with some kinda melody structure for the song.
