@@emmanueladebayo6327it was NOT “poorly designed”. It’s the same design as Ahmadu Bello which is the beginning of the coastal road.
Reverting to the ORIGINAL alignment means the the beginning of the road runs from Ahmadu Bello through Water Corporation Road (a total of not more than 1.5km of the proposed 700km) and then runs along the coastline thereafter. It would not only save THOUSANDS OF JOBS in a country groaning from massive unemployment, but would also be far much cheaper since it would not involve dredging and sand filing.

There are numerous unfinished road projects overseen by the federal government, with some abandoned and others lacking clear completion timelines. For instance, the Badagry Expressway has been in construction limbo for 15 to 17 years, raising doubts about its ever being finished. Now, with another ambitious project looming, there's uncertainty whether it will be completed even within the next 50 years.
Secondly, why opt for a costlier and potentially slower route when there's a more economical and efficient original path available?
Moreover, the government's readiness to disrupt a business that sustains thousands of jobs for its citizens is puzzling and concerning.
This pattern of behavior from the government suggests a lack of concern for its citizens' well-being.
Destroying the Landmark Beach and diverting the road through it, only to reroute it back to the original path, seems illogical when the underdeveloped water corporation road could serve as a straightforward solution.

This business has provided employment opportunities to over 12,000 people, 85% of which are Nigerians not including the 4,000 employees indirectly employed by vendors operating on the beach. It's evident that this was a calculated attempt to push Landmark out of business, which is quite unfair and unfortunate. Accordingly, reverting to the original plan would merely extend the beginning of the highway from Ahmadu Bello (which has been upgraded but not significantly changed) through Water Corporation Road (a total of about 1.5km out of the proposed 700km). The federal government has not been helpful, and every development we see in Nigeria has resulted from citizens' self-help. If you want to build a house, you have to build your own road to your house and drill a borehole for water since there is no public water infrastructure. So why are they so quick to destroy what they didn't build? It shows the government's impunity and callousness towards its citizens.
In other countries, the government provides mortgage facilities to help citizens get fully built apartments for themselves and their families, but in Nigeria, it is different. Ironically, the company constructing this road does not have the expertise to execute this type of construction without impacting people's livelihoods and the environment. This mentality that the beach and access to it should belong in private hands drives me mad. Beach access and the beach itself is a natural public treasure that knowledgeable countries use to attract tourists. Go to any coastal city in Spain and you will have a promenade open to the public to walk, jog or bike from one end of the country to the other. This attracts millions of travellers to the country and they make billions. Not only that, beach access is good for the health of the population. I encourage Lagos state and other coastal states to tap into this easy infrastructural development opportunity and convert all beach side to public promenades. This will stimulate intra country tourism to such states as well as attract foreign travellers. Businesses will see more profit on the back of this as well. So I support the coastal road but make such there is a promenade beside the road linking the beach for public access. Private businesses should not be allowed to charge for beach access

It's noteworthy how personal interests are taking precedence over public welfare in the discourse propagated by certain underqualified analysts. @@ShedrackLawrence-shed The Nigerian coastal road project presents a myriad of economic benefits. Firstly, it enhances transportation infrastructure, facilitating smoother movement of goods and people along the coast. This can lead to increased trade activities, stimulating economic growth and development in the region. Additionally, improved connectivity can attract investments in coastal areas, spurring job creation and entrepreneurship. Moreover, the road infrastructure can bolster tourism by providing easier access to coastal attractions, thereby generating revenue and employment opportunities in the hospitality sector. Overall, the Nigerian coastal road project holds significant potential to catalyse economic progress and prosperity along the coast. We should strive to conduct thorough research to understand the impact of the project on businesses and residences without attributing it to any specific ethnicity. Certain areas, once under exclusive federal jurisdiction, were reclaimed for the project, but this does not involve demolishing landmarks. Let's refrain from spreading false information and engaging in online displays of ethnic prejudice.
