My theory for Axel's ending in Twisted Metal Black was that it was a projection of Sweet Tooth's "ideal" execution. No Cops, no due process, just more senseless violence as a direct result of his own senseless violence.
I think that all the characters either: A. Represents the drivers of the competition on how Sweet Tooth sees them, since this is all happening in his head, he has a image of everyone he meets in the competition and in his head this is who they are, or these are normal people a And the competition is JUST inside his head, he is just murdering people outside just normally, no twisted metal, just his murders and how he sees others, it's like the movie Inception, where they go inside those dreams of people and they have images of people in their head of how they interprete them, like someone has an image of you from the past still in their head and they believe you are that. Or B. They all represent another personality of Kane, where the Ego is the boss, Id and the Super ego is battling for dominance, but also other aspects of him are battling too to be revealed, Axel could be revenge, Outlaw could be rage and regret killing or just strait up regret. All of them represent something of Kane, some sort of piece that is with the dominate one, like I believe that we all have the same thing but what ever is our dominate shows more than the others. Like someone else stated, he is rotting away and is day dreaming of his past victims being in a competition, or it was real and he is day dreaming about past contestants and what is their perspective is when he won. Or those past contestants is representing parts of him.

@@kagemushashien8394The thing is though, is that this _can't_ be ALL representations of real people. Some of these characters just straight up don't appear anywhere else except for his head. _Do_ personally agree in the view that this isn't necessarily a real tournament, though.
Here is my idea based on your videos. Sweet Tooth says he's spent the last three months in the nuthouse, he notes it's the longest time he's ever been confined. I would imagine he is trapped in solitary, maybe TW:Black is Sweet Tooth using elements of a previous Twisted Metal tournament (the vehicles) and the people around him (other patients now drivers) as a way to keep himself entertained. Basically just day dreaming stories about how the tournament would go from someone else' perspective. He loves murder, he loves the car combat but he's trapped in this asylum left to rot so now the world is bleak. Calypso resembles Sweet Tooth because why wouldn't he want to be the man who holds all the power. Axel kills him because in this fantasy he is still defiant in his last moments. I also remember the game manual including a picture of Sweet Tooth sitting on his ice cream truck holding an ice cream cone looking into a puddle, his reflection was holding as bloody knife. Maybe that was meant as symbolism for what's going on in Black.
This was my exact thought. A kid in his imaginative sand box. Many authors, game devs, etc insert themselves into their own scenarios from like a 3rd person perspective. Which is what minion (Marcus) means by that none of this is real. Every twisted metal game is merely a daydream/make believe story.
I know exactly the image your talking about I always figured the ice cream/ bloody knife implicated that sweet tooth licks the blade from the knife as a child would a nice cream cone.
I always thought that that Twisted Metal Black was a result from his wish from Twisted Metal 2 "Wanting to escape from madness but couldnt help killing others"
I literally wanted to slap myself so hard when you pointed out that Calypso's in game form resembles needles so much I can't tell you how many hours I put into that game and the series and I never made that connection even knowing that twb is all in Sweet tooth mind dang I feel dumb
Sweet Tooth's ending is essentially a man's ego losing his battle to his shadow, and in being unable to repress it he embraces the monster he is in totality. This makes me wonder, if all of this is in Needle's mind than what is Black supposed to represent? In Twisted Metal: Lost Black was sent by a Calypso from another dimension to kill him. I wonder if Black could potentially be another fragment of his psyche that is trying to destroy his ego. Alot of the other characters fit the description for many Jungian archetypes
There's something that's always bothered me about this game. In Outlaw's ending if you look closely at the terrorist that shoots Agent Stone he has the same scars and missing eye as Calypso, but only just before he shoots. I've always wondered if that appearance change happened in universe, or if it's just supposed to let the audience know that Calypso is responsible for Agent Stone's death. Does Calypso just have the ability to take control of anyone he wants?
personally as kid, i thought it was pretty well established by twisted metal 2 that he was some kind of multi-dimensional being(or the devil) that was clearly hiding his full capabilites. I mean the guy ruled the world, was running a worldwide car deathmatch, and was granting fucking wishes then fucking people over..
This is a great theory, however, here are some facts left hanging that I would like answered. 1: Calypso from Head on (and older version of the TM1 TM2, and TMPS3) is an alternate version of Calypso from Black. Is says in Head On PS2 Extra Twisted Edition, that they are tied together, like two halves of the same person stuck in two different realities, and they not only know of the others existence, but they are actually enemies. 2: Sweet Tooth is a mentally damaged individual. This means, it could be possible that the reason Needles and Marcus are fighting to be the one to control their life is BECAUSE there is no medium to step in between. There is no Ego to equalize his broken mind. With no Ego, of course the two are going to fight to gain control. Both Marcus and Needles are painted out in this game to be mentally unwell, insane, and damaged because they are missing something a normal person has. The Ego. Calypso, in character, is not one to ease chaos between two sides by making offers and solutions as an ego would Kantian balance. He Destroys balance to cause chaos. He is a Demon in a dead man's body, who knows needles is a demon who possessed marcus, and sets them up to fight to the death in his game of destruction. He takes advantage of the broken mind sweet tooth has and uses it for his own personality gain. His contest. Love to see how you work with this information. Keep up the great theory content for twisted metal. Much love.
Been loving these deep dives into Twisted Metal. There's so much to consider and decypher in this series, especially Black... I remember playing it as a kid once and getting spooked, only to re-discover it late last year and it ticks so many boxes for me now. I'm neck deep in it. Great work as always man, your insight is awesome.
I remember thinking as a kid, "Calypso looks alot like Sweet Tooth." or "Watch one of these endings is going to be Sweet Tooth is Calypso or vice versa.".
It's definitely an interesting thought, but unfortunately they both have different eye colors and Sweet Tooth doesn't have that bump on the side of his head that Calypso has
and alot that they dont like body scars and a ton of other things they are not the same person if that was the case everyone in the game would be sweet tooth cause its in his head
There are also themes of Sweet Tooth fighting for control with Calypso in other games in the series, interestingly Needles takes over Calypso's body in Head-On, attacks him in the lost endings, and somehow Calypso was able to summon Dark Tooth and Tower Tooth
Videos like these make me fall in love with gaming again. I would have never thought of some of the stuff you and other creators come up with and a lot of it makes sense. These deep dives into this horror game makes me love it even more then before.
Long time Twisted Metal fan here. Love that you’re covering this as I read about this a LONG time ago on an old forum called TM Alliance. Especially the parts about this taking place in Needles’ head. A few other points that may help your hypotheses about whether Black is real or not. Or cause more chaos. We love chaos as Twisted Metal fans. -Needles hates cops. Every Cop has a bad ending in Black. John Doe is killed. Agent Stone is killed. Warhawk is the final boss and is always killed to beat the game. -Needles wears a mask. Everyone with a mask has a good ending in Black. Mr Grimm. Dollface. Black’s ending is weird but he survives a blast right in front of him so I guess that’s good. - Needles hates the Preacher. He dies in his ending in Black. - Even part of the menu goes into Needles’ eye as if we’re going in his head A TON of subtle signs pointing to this being a figment of a twisted mind. Let alone Marcus Kane outright saying it! Keep it up these have been a blast and you’ve earned a new subscriber in me!
thats a really good point to make. as a kid i always assumed that needles while in solitary confinement imagined about a derby called twisted metal and in HIS mind it wasnt just about cars ramming each other, it was about guns, and murder to win and instead of prize money it was they got whatever they desired. granted as a kid that made sense but now knowing the story so much better i know thats very unlikely the case. it is interesting the name twisted metal. its not to far off from also being considered "twisted mentality".
This Series of Games was one of my favorites when I was a kid and I kind of forgot about many Details or never even picked up on them when I was actually playing some of these Games. These Videos are reminding me of how great some of these Games are.
Twenty years and counting. The commentary on the series only gets stranger. I don't think anyone has hit the bottom of this rabbit hole yet. Keep digging. 💚
I'm really glad you made the connection with the physical appearance between the two. And maybe there is a father son rivalry and that's why Calypso broke the remote killing Yellow Jacket.
Literally before you even said it, my brain tied the connection that Calypso is probably what Sweet Tooth looks like under the mask, seeing the similarities with the eyes and baldness. I’d love to see a video analyzing the other characters and how they may relate to Sweet Tooth’s personality as a whole. Brimstone can be a symbol of Needles’ religious beliefs or something he was brought up on that he rejected and has been burning his conscience in what he really loves to do, can tie in to Warthog with him hating his emotions when doing horrible things. Crazy 8 can be some symbolism of mental scarring, Mr. Grimm as well, possibly even a symbol of bloodlust in the carnage. I find Grimm wold have some connection seeing as one of his lines in his story is written on the back/the manuel of the game “They say sometimes the mind bends and twists to deal with the horrors of reality, my mind must of bent so much it snapped in two.” Spectre can be some interpretation to Sweet Tooth on how he views love, Dollface could be what little innocence he had retained unrelated to Marcus, hell Black can possibly be an unknown part of Marcus attempting to help take back control. I feel theres a lot to work with here with these drivers alone, so would love to hear anything you could come up with for everyone’s roll, if there is something for everyone.
Raven is said to represent Mortimer's ways of avenging the innocent who were killed by someone who was malevolent. In Lost, her description is: "Using her powerful voodoo dolls, she has become a hero to the people of Midtown; an urban legend who protects the innocent from the freaks and killers who roam the streets of this cursed city." I think that must imply that her story in Lost is interpreted as ultimately willing to die an untimely death to avenge the suffering of others so that she doesn't let anyone else die like she did Kelly. I think her Lost description could be Needle's interpretation of one of his targets as "the one who got away." So the survivor desires vengeance against Sweet Tooth for trying to kill them. Which is the manifestation through Raven as a heroine against the malevolent.
Really enjoying your deep dives on the Twisted Metal series, It's bringing back the curiousity and interest to the main storyline of TMB especially by me. Growing up I played all the games (except Small Brawl) and still consider it my favourite series! A theory I've always conjured up since finding out a only a few years back that the whole game takes place in Sweet Tooth's mind is that the other drivers are just people he's encountered in life right up until he was caught and arrested for the murders committed or that they all represent a trait that Sweet Tooth carries.
I would like to offer you early congrats on starting this channel with Twisted Metal as a topic, for when the show is released, people will come here to hear the Real story about the greatest Car Combat tournament ever. Thanks for hard work. Keep it going.
Haven’t played Twisted Metal in years. Honestly kinda forgot about them. Thanks for making these videos, I forgot how many hours I put into Twisted Metal Black. Thanks for making these videos
This was an intriguing angle. The code, plus your Freudian applications help to flesh out the meta aspects of Twisted Metal. Thanks for the awesome vid.
I've been on the platform awhile just as a viewer and your content has been awesome. I honestly loved TM as a kid and always wondered what happened to the series. Your videos have been a nice way to revisit old memories and learn more about the saga. I hope you continue to make videos as long as they make ya happy and I'll tag along too.
I thoroughly enjoyed this vid from beginning to end.. from the reference you made, the clips you put in, the gameplay itself to the way you intelligently broke down your theory.. thank you for bringing back some memories and for the comment you made at the end.. You must always strive to be better, not just for your community but for yourself. MOST importantly, you need to take care of yourself.. dont let the words of strangers get you down.. some people just can't help but be toxic, others truly just wanna help.. Much LOVE and good luck to all future endeavors.
I'm glad you picked up on this subject what with all the passionate comments and such. This really is one of those games where it's easy to gloss through the lore if you're breezing through it, but the more you think about it the more realize how intentional it all seems. My conclusion on the world of Twisted Metal Black is either it's ALL in Sweet Tooth's head and he's hallucinating while a psychiatrist (represented as Calypso) maybe talks to him. Needless would then interpret all of this as coping with his mind and engaging with all his personalities. Or again, this is a real tournament happening simultaneously with Sweet Tooth's hallucination and as you said, his mind is so messed up and deluded that his perception of the characters he are incorporated with his own subconscious. Which people do in fact do when trying to relate to other individuals, it's just hard to tell because we don't know what the real world is supposed to look like. I also think it's kind of funny and intentional that Sweet Tooth has Calpyso be represented as a maskless Needless. Think about it. Sweet Tooth is such a psychopathic and egotistical monster that when he interprets "the most powerful man" on earth he can only see himself on the top. He refuses to allow Calpyso that leisure, even when Needless has to kill Calypso (Or His Ego) in the end.
Your videos rock, man. Just found your channel a few days ago and have never watched such in-depth analyses on TM, a series I’ve grown up with and cherish! Thank you!
Dude i love the way your mind works on this ive just watched every twisted metal video youve done back to back and im so invested please keep them coming, if you can anyways
Loved the video so much:) I’m always happy to see that the TW community is still alive, and with people discussing the games, even though the fact that we don’t have a new entry in almost 10 years😓
Love the deep dives and connections you can make, but another UA-camr interviewed David Jaffe who confirmed there is no broad continuity between each title. Each game is meant to be a self-contained entry and is supposed to be looked at like a fairy tale instead of a chronicle. That said, this portrayal of Calypso was incredibly interesting and very different to the others. I'm glad I watched your video on it, because I always thought he and Sweet Toorh looked eerily similar.
I loved this video. I think we need to look at other characters and their timelines throughout the games. I swear there were hidden stuff all over the character videos in tm black
thanks for covering my long lost love for twisted metal. i played this game (all the twisted metals) so much as a kid and have watched your other vids on them. thanks
I commented on the Twisted Metal Black video about Calypso's similar appearance to Sweet Tooth thinking I was soooo clever xD Oh well, dangers of commenting on a several months old series before finishing it, I guess. Also congrats on the channel boom, dude. Well-deserved. I've been on a Twisted Metal kick lately as news about the TV series comes out, and your videos are really hitting the spot. As for this interpretation, I feel like someone could have a field day working out all the ways each of these characters is a representation of some part of Sweet Tooth's psyche. If Axel is his guilt for killing his wife, maybe Junkyard Dog is his vindication regarding it. Like he saw his wife as having betrayed him somehow so she deserved it, or his warped mind believed if he didn't kill her she'd try to kill him. Dollface is about him feeling stifled by his 'Sweet Tooth' persona but learning to love the mask he wears like a face now. The list goes on.
Something to think about is how most of the returning characters from 1 and 2 could be just how he views everyone. He’s dad yellow jacket is in his head dead to him so he does when he’s alive outside his head. Or how the car of roadkill, usually driven by Marcus, in needles head, The driver of roadkill is seen as a nobody like how he sees Marcus, and lastly, the driver of specter in his head is similar too the outside world driver being their both snobby and attention seeking and both get screwed in the end. And lastly, Manslaughter is represented as gimp since he’s controlled too get calypso like Mr ash wanting to get calypso. I think the returning cars are how he sees them.
Didn't get a chance to say this on the old video but what if what Marcus means by "I miss the colors" is that sweet tooth won twisted metal and wished for the world to be how he thinks it should be
Its fun to hear about Twisted Metal story. Loved the games growing up , Im just really bad and could hardly beat the starting levels , let alone see all endings. Even to this day TM : Black is too hard for me 😹 Anyway , glad I found your channel , you clearly love these games and are passionate just talking about them
I keep getting your Twisted Metal Black videos suggested to me on UA-cam and I have no idea why. I don't really consume any Twisted Metal content. That being said - your videos are fantastic. Really glad I ended up here.
I feel like right from the start, there were going to be issues with continuity, and the designers knew it. I mean, for starters, it already can't make sense the moment you have any more than one character returning in sequels. Due to the obvious holes in continuity that were going to be present right from the start, they felt like they had lots of wiggle room with retconning, and basically every game has made some effort or another to pull a big retcon. By the time Black came out, the best they could do is try to make it the most popular character's hallucinations. Best they could try to do besides that at this point is pull a comic book trope, declare Calypso as some kind of multiversal being, and pretend each game has been a different universe.
I just watch your twisted metal meta story and then this was a recommendation, you just gain another subscriber. Please please please keep up the deep dives!
My personal theory; This is some Psychonauts/Evil Within shit, with the contestants being given treatment for their psychoses, however Needles/Marcus' insanity is so great as to drag down everyone's wish fulfillment revenge power fantasy into a hellish destruction derby. Calypso is their shared desire for vengence, absolution, self actualization, etc.
I theorized that they are his emotion/memory's. John doe is him slowly forgetting his Marcus kane self. Bloody Mary being his memory of possibly being married or his view of society towards himself.
Thank you, TBP. I for one, especially as a big Sweet Tooth fan, would really enjoy it if you were able to run these by David Jaffe on one of his streams. Just a fan reaching for some Twisted Metal flavored popcorn.
I have only one question. What are your thoughts on the return of TM: Harbor City? (Calypso being part of Needles' persona is something I gathered as I played the game myself)
I always seen twisted metal on the psn store but I always thought it was some random indie game but man was I wrong thanks for informing me on how amazing this series is🤝
Great content ! also i think David Jaffe said so himself that he compartmentalizes his own personalities when getting involved in this game. SweetTooth being a fantasy of negative impulses, which explains the FU attitude towards censorship. (i watched the TM: Lost Bonus content in Head On )
With Firesprite studios "reportedly" making another Twisted Metal reboot, I seriously hope they bring back the dark and horror theme like TM: Black had in the next game. It just fits so well with the series, imo.
Black is what gives Calypso his power, Mr Ash aka Satan comes back to get him in Twisted Metal 1. Black is then sent to kill Calypso in an alternative universe/Needle's head.
You can analyze every detail of this game and it always gives more here's some stuff that has always stood out They are all in the same cell Fake preacher can do a real curse? yes because sweet tooth is the one in control? Confusing the baptized baby who had a dad looking a lot like another twisted metal black contestant and lots of familiar faces like the swat vs the undercover agent etc the demon priest hallucination the possessed baby has calypso chest injuries -one of the only differences between needles and calypso is these chest scars and calypso has a weird shaped head compared to needles but if needles mask was actually to correct a deformity? I dunno what but maybe something like 8 balls or the hillbilly back story happened to needles and then he had a corrective device the 'clown mask' which is seen being made by the old man who locked doll face in her mask Marcus foreshadowing the colorful artstyle of head on is cool and the game is where Marcus and sweetie can go head on also sweet tooth becomes calypso in his head on ending.
Or the reason Calypso looks like a maskless Needles is due to how Needles views him to be the only one like him. Every other drive has a motive to kill, some even hate killing others. Needles has no reguard for life and from all other games, Calypso is shown to be the same. He loves to have people murder each other just so he can fuck with their wishes. He isn't a part of Needles, but Needles projects a reflection onto him
As a therapist who has studied psychology fairly well, I'm impressed with your take on this series. Indeed, the concepts introduced by Freud are entertaining but most of it is just that. The field had matured over the last few decades and his work is generally seen as outdated as our understanding and ability to define psychological behaviors and pathology have improved
Something that I always Wondered was why is it that all the characters are locked on the same cell... c-1. It would make sense if all the characters are fragments of needles
Sweettooths mask with the crossed out left eye. Calypso with a disfigured/burned left eye. The last Twisted Metal when his daughter stabbed him in the eye with scissors to escape Needles Kane.
I think I once played twisted metal as a kid, literally once. Yet here I am, watching speculative breakdowns on the series. I wonder why this is, I don’t like clowns or cars necessarily… could be the soundtrack but that’s not really the subject. Maybe it’s because you make phenomenal well thought out videos and your passion for it is evident in the high quality work you do…. I dunno, I’ll watch a few more and see if I can’t figure it out.
David even said in the ghenry perez interviews that the games don’t have any significant overarching story. Just some nods and references, if that but there isn’t a big narrative through line. I do appreciate your videos on the series though. Since nothing else is coming out from the franchise anytime soon haha. Theories like this one are fun to think about. The developers put this detail in that added layers to a dark stories for you to consider. More lore and world building to help you immerse yourself further and get invested. Even if it was under a time constraint. Those kinda circumstances have the chance to make projects or break them.
Damn dude, this is one hell of a theory. Not even matpat could piece this together. I've played tmb so many times but I never put 2 and 2 together until your pointed it out about sweet tooth and calypso. This makes me think even deeper that maybe this has a connection to head on
Awesome video. Never thought about Twisted Metal like this. Its a much deeper game than I realized. How does the Twisted Metal Reboot fit into all of this?
I don't know, the more I hear your theories the more I think that the series takes place in hell. Each contestant is being punished by being forced to compete over and over. And it just resets when someone wins. o.o
The storyline for TM always did seem convoluted so praise to you for trying to make this make sense. Now something I'm wondering is how does TM:2 Minion square with the rest of the theory. Minion in TM:2 is basically a demon with powers that match or eclipse Calypso. Not spoiling the ending for those that haven't played it
Wow! You're videos blow my mind! Even the calypso and needles sharing the same bald head and same missing eye! Honestly I thought that was the ring lodged in his eye! And I seriously wanna to know what criticism you need to improve on, some virgin trolls or something? You sound pretty professional to me! Tell you what - I'll subscribe to you IF you continue either these delicious TM videos!
I hope one day you approach this topic again, but with Carl Jung in mind instead of Freud. Even if I don't think the Freudian interpretation of the game is accurate, the deep dive into Sweet Tooth's mental state is awesome!
I think I have a theory that would fix mostly everything. I was wondering if you like to hear me out if you have the time . Also liked to mention that thank you for reviewing this game, it has been an nostalgic ride, and I would love to talk about with someone with more experience in reviewing aswell
You gave me much nostalgia for the series... (It's been soo long, I can't say if I've played them all still...) That said, TM3 has always been my favorite overall. ...otherwise it's down to character choice. Mostly for the vehicle... I'm going to need to see if anything "new" existsfor the Twisted Metal game series. (Seriously hope so, and tbh it was Rob's songs and the vehicle combat/stunts that got me hooked...also Calypso's story.)
i beat this game with every character as a kid and barely remember any of these maps... i think my favorite characters were sweettooth and the junkyard guy. oh and the algorithm states that we all have been watching 90s wwf... we're getting old. great video and valid opinions to me. and i wouldnt be mad if you covered the old wwf/wcw games from the late 90s and early 2000s. im sure youre aware of the gold from that era lol
I always linked Sweet Tooth's star eye and Calypso's damaged eye together. the only thing that never solidified them being the same person was Calypso's chest not looking the same as Sweet Tooth's. But then again since it's in his head and Minion is Needles it could just be his mind changing things. Black is one of the more puzzling entries to break down, but it's my favorite game not just in the series but of all time.
I'm with the idea it's all SweetTooths mind as he's in the psych ward. My basis is the Twisted Metal tournament is clearly traumatic, it's a massive fight to the death in a quest for power. How can that not shatter someone's mind? He had family involved too in previous tournaments. I'm not sure if all the other players are aspects of his mind, I'd be more willing to believe they're just twisted versions of those he fought in the past. The human mind isn't always great at remembering details and it's entirely possible he just has some details wrong. Anyway neat video, this is a game series I don't think gets enough love.
My theory for Axel's ending in Twisted Metal Black was that it was a projection of Sweet Tooth's "ideal" execution. No Cops, no due process, just more senseless violence as a direct result of his own senseless violence.
I like that one.
I think that all the characters either:

This is because if Needles ending in head in is canon, he swapped places with Calypso, that's why Sweet Tooth resembles Calypso, he is him.

@@samiamtheman7379 it was one undercover agent. John doe probably set up the raid from the inside
Much love.
With point two, it actually reminds me a lot of the "bicameral mind" hypothesized by Julian Jaynes
Wrong
@@HoudmCare to elaborate?
Been loving these deep dives into Twisted Metal. There's so much to consider and decypher in this series, especially Black... I remember playing it as a kid once and getting spooked, only to re-discover it late last year and it ticks so many boxes for me now. I'm neck deep in it. Great work as always man, your insight is awesome.
I remember thinking as a kid, "Calypso looks alot like Sweet Tooth." or "Watch one of these endings is going to be Sweet Tooth is Calypso or vice versa.".
Not sure how I never noticed that Sweet tooth and Calypso share appearance traits.
Minion Tells All
It's definitely an interesting thought, but unfortunately they both have different eye colors and Sweet Tooth doesn't have that bump on the side of his head that Calypso has
@@PChamileon97 David Jaffe denounced that dialogue as last minute lazy writing for a secret character
@@OffensiveGen I don't think minion has the same eye color as needles either
and alot that they dont like body scars and a ton of other things they are not the same person if that was the case everyone in the game would be sweet tooth cause its in his head
My favorite thing about this game is that when you're selecting a character you can see another character in the background
I loved that and the menu music
@@insaneepsilon6079 the soundtrack was fire. Rolling Stones & original in-house.
- Even part of the menu goes into Needles’ eye as if we’re going in his head
A TON of subtle signs pointing to this being a figment of a twisted mind.
Please make more! I'm loving these theories and its reigniting my love for this type of game
I find Grimm wold have some connection seeing as one of his lines in his story is written on the back/the manuel of the game
“They say sometimes the mind bends and twists to deal with the horrors of reality, my mind must of bent so much it snapped in two.”
Spectre can be some interpretation to Sweet Tooth on how he views love, Dollface could be what little innocence he had retained unrelated to Marcus, hell Black can possibly be an unknown part of Marcus attempting to help take back control.
I feel theres a lot to work with here with these drivers alone, so would love to hear anything you could come up with for everyone’s roll, if there is something for everyone.
Raven is said to represent Mortimer's ways of avenging the innocent who were killed by someone who was malevolent. In Lost, her description is:
"Using her powerful voodoo dolls, she has become a hero to the people of Midtown; an urban legend who protects the innocent from the freaks and killers who roam the streets of this cursed city."
I think that must imply that her story in Lost is interpreted as ultimately willing to die an untimely death to avenge the suffering of others so that she doesn't let anyone else die like she did Kelly.
Thanks for making these videos
as a long time fan of Twisted Metal, and especially black, it's great to see new videos pop up on the subject. Thank you for the content!
This was an intriguing angle. The code, plus your Freudian applications help to flesh out the meta aspects of Twisted Metal. Thanks for the awesome vid.
Dang I never even considered under Sweettooths mask he was Calypso. He's missing the eye and everything
Thank you!
My favorite series being reviewed. Thank you so much for this! This game as always stuck with me since my childhood!! ❤️❤️
Reading the comic to calypso's origin reminded me of Freddy Kruger in a good way. I think twisted metal would be great as an animated series.
Dude i love the way your mind works on this ive just watched every twisted metal video youve done back to back and im so invested please keep them coming, if you can anyways
Abit hard to find twisted metal content. It's fluctuates. Thanks for being one of the few that keep the lore alive.
Was this a decision made after 989 took over since 2 is a direct sequel to 1 iirc?
He literally said this very early into the video. No reason for you to say it again and make the creator feel like people think they are dumb.
Now that you made the Needles connection.
I cannot unsee Calypso in Black now...
Crazy how I never noticed that!
Your Twisted Metal videos are some of the best I seen that involve this series. Hope you keep it up, wether it is Twisted Metal related or not.
Didn't get a chance to say this on the old video but what if what Marcus means by "I miss the colors" is that sweet tooth won twisted metal and wished for the world to be how he thinks it should be
I did not think a video on a Twisted Metal game would make me think so much...thanks for sharing your take
Its fun to hear about Twisted Metal story.
I've been playing Twisted Metal Black again because of your videos. Keep up the great work.
its hard to find twisted metal videos and fans. I'm glad I found somewhere to share my love for this game.
Man I’m really starting to realize just how much there really is to the twisted metal games
I just watch your twisted metal meta story and then this was a recommendation, you just gain another subscriber. Please please please keep up the deep dives!
Man i was on my way to close UA-cam before i see your video to change my mind
My personal theory; This is some Psychonauts/Evil Within shit, with the contestants being given treatment for their psychoses, however Needles/Marcus' insanity is so great as to drag down everyone's wish fulfillment revenge power fantasy into a hellish destruction derby. Calypso is their shared desire for vengence, absolution, self actualization, etc.
What if all the other participants are Sweet Tooth’s victims that live on in his head? I mean, how the hell does Crazy 8 see and drive with no eyes?
I theorized that they are his emotion/memory's. John doe is him slowly forgetting his Marcus kane self. Bloody Mary being his memory of possibly being married or his view of society towards himself.
@@poorlydrawngouf4281How would you interpret Raven?
Just found this channel out and I love the content specifcally Twisted Metal! Keep up the good content!
I always seen twisted metal on the psn store but I always thought it was some random indie game but man was I wrong thanks for informing me on how amazing this series is🤝
You got the bug! I’m subbed now and excited to see you keep growing! The algorithm fed me this video and now I have subscribed after 3 videos.
Great content ! also i think David Jaffe said so himself that he compartmentalizes his own personalities when getting involved in this game. SweetTooth being a fantasy of negative impulses, which explains the FU attitude towards censorship. (i watched the TM: Lost Bonus content in Head On )
Great job on the video. Been a fan of TM since #1. Never really thought about things this in depth, so it's fun thinking about this stuff.
With Firesprite studios "reportedly" making another Twisted Metal reboot, I seriously hope they bring back the dark and horror theme like TM: Black had in the next game. It just fits so well with the series, imo.
Oh! And thanks for the great vids, man. Congrats on the success of the channel
Grew up playing twisted metal. Loving these vids. Kudos to you being successful with new/fresh material in a flooded market of, well everything else.
Black is what gives Calypso his power, Mr Ash aka Satan comes back to get him in Twisted Metal 1. Black is then sent to kill Calypso in an alternative universe/Needle's head.
You can analyze every detail of this game and it always gives more here's some stuff that has always stood out
They are all in the same cell
Fake preacher can do a real curse? yes because sweet tooth is the one in control? Confusing
the baptized baby who had a dad looking a lot like another twisted metal black contestant and lots of familiar faces like the swat vs the undercover agent etc
the demon priest hallucination the possessed baby has calypso chest injuries -one of the only differences between needles and calypso is these chest scars and calypso has a weird shaped head compared to needles but if needles mask was actually to correct a deformity? I dunno what but maybe something like 8 balls or the hillbilly back story happened to needles and then he had a corrective device the 'clown mask' which is seen being made by the old man who locked doll face in her mask
Marcus foreshadowing the colorful artstyle of head on is cool and the game is where Marcus and sweetie can go head on also sweet tooth becomes calypso in his head on ending.
Subscribed specifically for Twisted Metal content. I love it!
Your videos got me back into the TM series! Awesome work
Or the reason Calypso looks like a maskless Needles is due to how Needles views him to be the only one like him. Every other drive has a motive to kill, some even hate killing others. Needles has no reguard for life and from all other games, Calypso is shown to be the same. He loves to have people murder each other just so he can fuck with their wishes. He isn't a part of Needles, but Needles projects a reflection onto him
I’m loving that I found these videos! Twisted metal was always a fave of mine
Appreciate the walk down memory lane . First game I ever bought for ps2 soon as I got one. Good shit brother!
Just subscribed and I am definitely intrigued with this new outlook on Twisted Metal!
Sweettooths mask with the crossed out left eye. Calypso with a disfigured/burned left eye. The last Twisted Metal when his daughter stabbed him in the eye with scissors to escape Needles Kane.
Eyy thank YOU for making content dude, been digging your videos 😁
Wow a recently released twisted metal video is really surprising to me nice video.
Ah yes a new video about Black. You deserve more subs bro.
Bro you're videos are phenomenal don't stop doing what you're doing keep improving 👏 you're great 👍
David even said in the ghenry perez interviews that the games don’t have any significant overarching story.
Pretty obvious Black Calypso is Sweet Tooth/Marcus. Both bald, both missing left eye and Black is all in Needles' head so it's a projection.
Damn dude, this is one hell of a theory. Not even matpat could piece this together. I've played tmb so many times but I never put 2 and 2 together until your pointed it out about sweet tooth and calypso. This makes me think even deeper that maybe this has a connection to head on
Bro... Could I tell you a theory that could be a bit of a mindf*ck to extend off of his theory...
I had an epiphany.
I love your videos! And if you ever would do a video on killer 7 id be the happiest man ever
Another great Dive into Twisted Metal, keep up good work, TBP
When im
Hungover I like two things:
Twisted metal lore and bacon asmr
Awesome video. Never thought about Twisted Metal like this. Its a much deeper game than I realized. How does the Twisted Metal Reboot fit into all of this?
You're the best twisted metal black content creator on UA-cam 🙏
Here for some Twisted Metal Lore! Appreciate it :)
Not spoiling the ending for those that haven't played it
There's also Sweet Tooth's ending in Head-On where he and Calypso swap bodies...not making a point just fueling the fire :p
Everyone who played this at an uncles house at way too young an age and was scarred for life check in.
I owned this game when I was like 4 years old and yeah when I played as Crazy 8’s story yeah the driver kinda scared me as a kid
(It's been soo long, I can't say if I've played them all still...)
That said, TM3 has always been my favorite overall.
...otherwise it's down to character choice. Mostly for the vehicle...
I'm going to need to see if anything "new" existsfor the Twisted Metal game series.
(Seriously hope so, and tbh it was Rob's songs and the vehicle combat/stunts that got me hooked...also Calypso's story.)
Been waiting for anyone to do a good dive on Calypso.
Great video bro can’t wait for the next Twisted metal video🔥🔥🔥
i beat this game with every character as a kid and barely remember any of these maps... i think my favorite characters were sweettooth and the junkyard guy. oh and the algorithm states that we all have been watching 90s wwf... we're getting old. great video and valid opinions to me. and i wouldnt be mad if you covered the old wwf/wcw games from the late 90s and early 2000s. im sure youre aware of the gold from that era lol
