That opening in Lost that plays in Head on with the story of the letter feels like a creepypasta come to life. Even if it's not real, that slow text crawl with Needles sitting in silence is pretty uncanny and creepy.
*and then Raven with hyper realistic eyes said “I’m going to kill you just like I killed them!” Just then a blood curling scream came out of my tv and killed me.*
Even for a 2000s marketing campaign I find that in fairly poor taste. Fans would have no way of knowing it was a marketing thing and like you guys said, why would you not believe it? People tend to be trusting especially of developers they think are on "their side" because they like the series so much
I dread the day that you run out of Twisted Metal content to talk about, because there's only so many games in this series and it still remains to be seen if we'll get another one. Here's hoping, because I don't think I'll ever get tired of your videos on the subject.
i have been wanting to learn how to 3D model and do game development, and one of the things i want to do is remake older games and bring them up to spec with modern day looks and sound. i know i wouldnt be able to make any money on this because Sony would sue me into hell (not Michigan) if i even thought about it, but rather i simply think these games need some tender love and care that they clearly are lacking from the IP holders and if done right could seriously outperform some of the AAA games being released at the moment. it wouldnt be to hard to finish the works of TM lost and add some maps, fix character bios, add weapons, and correct a few minor inconsistencies and animations. im working two jobs so progress on learning anything has been slow no doubt, but i am trying to learn and it would be awesome to one day get a group of people together who share the same interest to make remasters of older games that were once the pinnacle of their time (Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8, Jak and Daxter, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Turok, etc...) and just give them a breath of new life for people to enjoy on modern hardware without the drawbacks of the older tech.
I'm glad someone finally covered this, I watch your content more than anyone elses for TM and I've always wanted someone to cover Lost/Black 2 and the whole plane thing. As a kid, I thought it was so real. Maybe part of me still does... ominous music?
I remember getting Head on and finding that and seeing the letter and telling my brother and he said "If that actually happened, how was It not all over the news?" and I sit and thought for a minute and was like THEY LIED TO ME! XD
I'll be honest, I was buying the game's little "backstory" until "AND THEN A LETTER WRITTEN BY THE GHOSTS OF THE DEAD DEVELOPERS APPEARED AT THE SONY OFFICES" 😂
The suburbs level in TM: Lost always reminded me of the Sunsprings, CA level in Twisted Metal (2012), just less refined. It’s like they took certain concepts from Lost and used them in the 2012 game, especially with the carnival level.
For the longest time, I thought the story was true. It made playing the game so much more haunting as I thought I was witnessing the last passion project of six men.
Really enjoy all of your videos, especially the TM and GTA content. Still my two favorite franchises to this day. I'd be interested to see a video of you interviewing one of the devs of the games for a future TM upload. I know David Goodrich (Small Brawl) and Jim Buck (3 and 4) are usually willing to do interviews. As for other games, like Head On, someone like Scott Campbell might be harder to track down though. Just an idea. Can't wait for the next TM video. I'll be sure to watch it as soon as you upload.
I really hope that we get big news about the game possibility coming to PS5 and it had better be a huge improvement over 2013’s version with a big roster, lots of DLC drivers and stages and maybe guns and power ups. They also need to make the indivual storyline act more like black and if they want a full story mode then keep it separate from the arcade tower mode I really like this series and it would be cool if they decided to revive some of the games that were cancelled.
Everytime i hear david jaffe's name its so weird to think about how he made basically the games of my childhood, yeah my parents let me play twisted metal and god of war as a kid lmao
Twisted Metal PS3 started development in 2008 and it was supposed to be an online only title for 20 dollars that came out in 2009. Then Sony liked what they saw from the game and wanted to expand the game to a 40 dollar more robust online game for 2010. Then eventually in 2010 they wanted the game to have a single player component and be a full 60 dollar game which was to be released in October 2011. The game was delayed a few months to polish things up and it came out in February 2012. So yeah TM 2012 was actually in development that long due to how the games scope was consistently expanded and the delay of a few months towards the back end.
The disdain for twisted metal 3 and 4 is wild to me. Sure, they were silly, but i was in kindergarten when they came out, and that was the darkest thing id ever seen, and it also created a lifelong fan.
Honestly when i was younger i belived this story mainly because i had learned about the band lynyrd skynyrd's deaths beforehand, and because i was young i didnt understand it. Plus my cousins would say it was true because they knew I'd believe it
Man, I love the twisted metal game series and your channel has the right amount of information, also I would like your analysis on the series and the similarities with the canon games, great job.
Everytime i hear about this game i get deppressed this could have been so great, could have been a game changer for the whole franchise... but it was just cancelled just like that and now we can only imagine what if all because some dumb executives who had no buisness interfering with creative process
I remember hearing about Head On Extra Twisted coming out and preordered it since I did not have Head On for the PSP at the time. I thought the on foot segments would have been a cool addition to the franchise, but then it would not really feel like Twisted Metal. An open world type game for Twisted Metal would be awesome like they were wanting to do. Highway connected levels with no loading screens. Could use cut scenes to introduce each area like they sort of did with 2012
18:46 Plenty of PS2 games on PSN for PS3. ... I remember reading that story, and I definitely had my doubts even then, but, I had no way of knowing for sure at first.
It's a show that definitely got stronger with each episode. As a longtime fan of the games, my low expectations (owing to those underwhelming teasers) were blown away by a surprisingly engaging story and characters I couldn't help but like. The hit-to-miss ratio for jokes increased as it went on and it's clear that the entire first season is a setup for the actual tournament. My only complaint is that, in an age of digital explosions/muzzle flashes/blood, the effects don't always feel grounded and I would love to see more in-camera stuff if they get a budget increase for season 2.
There's a sweet tooth head in the sweet tour It says they tried to make diecast cars and there is a photo of a Hot Wheels style packaging with the cover of the first game and a white ice cream truck released by Hot Wheels in the 80s
Yo, Tactical Bacon. If it's not already done, could you rank every Twisted Metal musics please? I know it's a titan's work, but I assume you're up to the task! honestly, a game where you can play as sweet tooth where you walk around wouldn't be a bad idea, hell make it play into twisted metal somehow where you revisit some of the people he has killed, like axles wife, or his own dang family, make it a gruesome and uncomfortable thing so that way every time we are taken to that part of the game it makes us truly understand the monster that he is by having to relive the murders. could include a segment with Marcus trying to resist and stop it all but ultimately being powerless to do anything. it would be a pretty interesting feature to include especially now with how amazing graphics are looking in unreal engine 5 and even unity although twisted metal would be more properly placed in unreal engine 5 because apparently unity isnt really made to make large games im told.
SingleTrac was the creator behind the first two Twisted Metal games, but they wanted to branch out and do their own thing, so decided to walk away. SingleTrac owned the game engine, Sony owned the intellectual property. So Sony handed development over to an internal team, 989 Studios. After making a new game engine from scratch, they made Twisted Metal 3 and 4, both of which were a severe departure from the previous two games. However most of the team behind the first two Twisted Metal games left SingleTrac to form Incognito Inc who made the next few TM games, meaning the original creators for all intents and purposes got the franchise back, and had very negative things to say about the intermediary games.

The reason it was cancelled, wasn't because sony executives making bad decisions. Remember twisted metal black was acclaimed and had some of the best reviews plus had good sales number. Secondly, it was David Jaffe that killed the project as during the late development he made a new studio and many of the former twisted metal devs left the company to work on his new game, which essentially killed the project and the on foot was early.
