    I built a beach cruiser with engine a while back it was mainly used by my buddy's to get beer down the street from my house it would do 45mph easy but the rims could not handle it and the brakes were scary. It also had spring forks. After getting the cops called on use for doing time lap race around the block with my buddy's I sold it to my brother he goes to work on it to save gas. I have a beach cruiser that I've been wanting to make a tryke with a motor on the back of it and a e bike motor on front so I can be used with gas or electric. And a locking diff it will be for my dad he told me all he ever wanted was a 1964 beach cruiser as a kid now that he old I figured a tryke conversation would be better. Lol👍👌✌️💯🏍️

      @@teeg431 ya it wasn't cheap though I kinda want over board it can out nice I went with a small gas engine at the end my dad didn't want to much power but for the electric it a front hub I asked around and was told to go as big as possible because there not that great so I did it's okay perfect for my dad but if it was for me I did car for the electric as much and would go bigger with the gas engine but I like power it hard to find a way to put a lot of power out most of the parts don't handle more then 15hp I originally was going for 25 or more but couldn't find much converter that could transfer that much and no one really does tryke Wich make it cool at least I think so. Really nice build guys. That bike you have there was a promotion bike for Smoking Loon Wine Co. I put together 30 of those out of the box for a local liquor distributor that my friend works for and I believe he still has one. The tires that came with it were really cool, they had a flame tread design. Yes Smoking Loon is a wine company.

    I just got given a predator engine, seeing this I know what I'll be doing with it, I'll be working on a build over the coming year, I have to make most of the frame and other fabrication as in the UK its hard to get these cruiser frames and every other bit without paying ludicrous shipping for what ultimately is a cheaply made part, luckily I have part files from the last one I made that should shave a few days off the build

      We avoided this engine position for a long time for the reasons you mention. Two things ended up convincing us it will work. First, we saw a video of an engine running with a clear plexiglass side cover. The cam gear actually plays a big role in getting oil to the top end. Second, we had several friends run their engines upright without issue. As odd as it may seem, it works.

    • @agkracing140
      @agkracing140  3 роки тому +4

      We resisted mounting an engine upright like this for several years. Without going into all of the details, simply put, we watched a number of friends do this successfully. Some of our friends are running their bikes at the track too which is the true torture test. We saw a couple damaged engines early on but they were experimenting with oil levels. Turns out you can use the same amount of oil as if the engine was flat (about 16oz) and you do not need any internal modifications.

    I’m seeing all the great engineering . I was hoping to just be able to use a 79 cc with a belt drive torque converter. So added an adapter to take the crank from 5/8 to 3/4. Now that I got the torque converter set up in from OMB. It does not line up! And the gear that goes inside near the seat post frame is now actually hitting the frame. And it’s too far inside and centered on bike to line up with the hub sprocket. I don’t know what to do except just give up and go with the chain drive gasbike motor kit that I bought. Ive moved engine as far left as I can move it and the engine remain mounted. Thanks. Any suggestions?

    • @agkracing140
      @agkracing140  4 роки тому +2

      Our first suggestion is don't adapt one of those torque converters to a 79cc Predator. It takes power to run those torque converters and the 79cc engine has so little power to begin with. Also, the torque converter is nearly as big and heavy as the 79cc engine. However if you want to move forward, sounds like you need a jackshaft to work in conjunction with the torque converter. Email us at tech@affordablegokarts.com and we can share pictures with you of a bike we built using a torque converter and a 196cc engine. We used a jackshaft to make it all work.

    • @MrCbell57
      @MrCbell57 4 роки тому +1

      @@agkracing140 Thanks for the advice. I didn't know the torque convertor would take all the power a 79 cc has. Even without a gov?
      I found out after buying it the gear is too close to the seat post frame rail so it won't work anyway. Got to send it all back. Just wishing I could have had a belt drive system. With a torque converter that increased power. Now I have nothing and have to resort to a chain drive crap gear set up i got from gasbike. No matter what I research and learn, it is just not enough to make a 79 cc bike motor go down the road. Even with removing the governor. The 212 is too big to put in the bike frame. I guess no one has one of these without extreme engineering and $1000 in parts. I'm almost ready to just give up. I see now why so many use the two stroke motors. Even though the 4's are much better for a street bike.

  • @romandefoart
    @romandefoart 2 роки тому

    Nice built! And I didn't get one thing/ may be cause I don't quite understand the clutch work. When you just pedaling without working engine the shaft of the engine spins as well through the jackshaft and should it start up the engine at the end? (but we want just pedal driving) Well can we just pedal drive without working engine? And can we start the engine from pedal driving?

    • @agkracing140
      @agkracing140  2 роки тому +1

      When you pedal the bike with the engine off the two drive chains will rotate too. The engine will not start though because the clutch on the engines output shaft will just freewheel. That clutch doesn't engage until the engines output shaft spins a specific rpm. Once the engines output shaft reaches the engagement rpm, the clutch will start to lock up, otherwise it freewheels.

    • @agkracing140
      @agkracing140  2 роки тому +2

      These engines use a splash oiling system. There is a dipper on the end of the rod that slings oil. Turning the engine upright isn't ideal for this system. However the cam gear gets involved and slings a bunch of oil which seems to make up for the dipper being at an odd angle. We hesitated doing this for a long time. Now that we've done it, we haven't had any issues. No modifications to the oiling system are needed. We use 16 oz. of oil.

  • @secondchancegarage
    @secondchancegarage 2 роки тому

    How much oil is needed to run these in the vertical position? I'm building a scrambler using a Lifan frame. Not using a jack shaft so scooting the engine over to the right isn't an issue since this frame is wider. But I know that means I will have to definitely get the front sprock alignment with the rear sprocket as perfect as possible.

  • @FarmerFpv
    @FarmerFpv 4 роки тому +1

    Isn't that a steel frame? You could have just cold set the rear dropouts to fit the wider wheel. No need for all that work. I took mine from 135mm to 175mm wide at the dropouts and chainstays to install a wider hub and wheels. Oh well, guess it makes yours unique. Great job though, really enjoyed the video. Your Dad's thinking is correct but not entirely true. These engines use a dipper, splash oiling system and one would think the system will not work efficiently when tilting the engine up. We thought the same thing until we saw an engine with a clear plexiglass side cover. Once you can see inside the engine you start to realize why they still survive in the upright position. The jackshaft bearings are not pressed in. They are a tight fit with the bearing hangers but do not need to be pressed in. The bearings have a snap ring which helps keep them in position. We also thread each end of the jackshaft so we can put a bolt and washer on the ends which helps retain everything in position on the jackshaft in conjunction with spacers and lock collars.

      Yes the engine gets lubricated when it's mounted vertical. A clear side cover was used to see how well the splash lubrication system does. The oil gets to the places it needs to go.

      We kept it mostly stock for the class we raced in. They allowed a 19mm carb, header, governor removal and I think heavier valve springs. It's a simple, fast and reliable combo.

      Engines like a GX240/270/390 are way too big for a bike. Even these 212's are too big in our opinion. The perfect engine (in our opinion) for a motorized bike is a 79cc Predator. They are compact and powerful for their size.
