Kamasi got his start playing along with a diverse group of musicians including Kendrick Lamar, Lauryn Hill, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, George Duke (Zappa keyboardist), Chaka Khan, Run the Jewels and Raphael Saadiq. This album was his big break as a leader of his own ensemble in 2015. Glad you enjoyed guys
This reminded me of Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On" album with the background vocals and the strings. As the great Frank Zappa once said "Jazz isn't dead it just smells funny"
Goddamn that was cool. The tension through out raised my blood pressure to dangerous levels. The piano sounded like McCoy Tyner with too much coffee. I especially loved the over blown sax solo. This was a beautiful piece of music. More!!
Wow, You guys are amazing! what a great choice. I'm a huge fan of Kamasi. Can you imagine Kamasi Washington doing an interpretation of What's Going On the album by Marvin Gaye for the 21st Century. I can.
who is operating as ''thundercat''...must be masking real name...nice segue on sax...he built the solo well-...Never heard this man before...born 1981...so he is not too old....The thematic portion is nicely woven with choral arrangements...That was a nice ride... Good to see Dan riding the neuron roller coaster...We can rewire your brain.
Sometimes his stuff's a bit to... ah... theatrical (?) for me but he's definitely one to keep watching~ Chelsea Carmichael's a relatively new player that should be checked out, btw...

So good, thanks for this, I am going to have a little bit of fun here, and attempt a tad of Frank style noodling over the choir.
Now THAT is a whole vibe! Excellent stuff here. Something else to add to my collection. Thank you ✌❤🙏

You should try Sun Ra and Pharoah Sanders if you like this one!
