Whoever first said music is the universal language must have just listened to this. The ensemble is soul stirring and Abigail Washburn is just phenomenal. It seems impossible to imagine one person with her range... from her Bluegrass clawhammer banjo and Appalachian clogging to the Silkroad Ensemble! Perfection seems almost an understatement.
Anyone interested in the lyrics: Way to home, way to home; my way to home; quiet, quiet and my quiet my way home; it's not a long way in front of me, while door is open to me; I bear no agony (stress) and I don't have to wait long any more; mom is expecting me; dad is also anticipating; when I think of the reunion; I am filled with love..... The Chinese lyrics is a lot more beautiful than my translation
"I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a gray place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free."- Red
@YoYoMa I am doing very well, thank you so much for asking! What an honor to meet you online! I hope to meet you in person one day, as Abigail Washburn is my friend, and I went to Mount Holyoke College, as did your wife. It’s a small, beautiful world, and you, sir, make it better every day. Thank you!
@YoYoMa I’ve been a fan of yours for as long as I can remember. I’ve been a singer my whole life (opera, folk, a cappella, etc.) and also played piano and guitar, and now I’m learning to play the cello! My home is Manhattan (NYC). By the way, I highly recommend a vocal group called The Swingle Singers. They are my dear friends, and they are INCREDIBLE! Like you.

I wonder if that clarinet guy is from Czech. He has this cheaky joyful look when he plays. But he can be from anywhere and that is a beauty of it. All aof them are just incredible. Thank you!
I heard Chinese version of this when I was young and the lyrics were different and more classical. I think it's called 念故乡 (Missing Homeland). Have to say truely surprised by Abigail's voice and pronunciation. Was also following her being a banjo goddess.
This selection is piece from one of my favorite Classical symphonies and this arrangement, the vocals and the musicianship were beautiful. Does anyone know what instrument the male vocalist is playing?
Well, Dvorak was heavily influenced by negro spirituals and native American songs when composing the New World Symphony. "Going Home" is a negro spiritual that pre-dates the New World Symphony.
‧Home, home, home, home. ‧I'm going home. ‧Nothin' lost, all's gain, No more fret nor pain ‧No more stumblin' by the way, ‧No more longin' for the day, ‧Goin' to roam no more! ‧There's no break, there's no end, ‧Just a livin' on; ‧Wide awake, with a smile, ‧Goin' on and on. ‧回家嘍,回家嘍,我得回家嘍; ‧路不遠,在眼前, ‧家門仍在開。 ‧我得回家嘍! ‧Goin’ home!
Nice piece of music... and more beautiful listening a 2nd time. Interesting instrument the male singer is playing. Prefer the male voice were not overshadowed so much by the female singing part. ( ... ha, maybe mimicking life tho’ ... ).
This is an original Chinese song with original Chinese lyrics, if I remember it correctly. The second part of English lyrics should be translation actually.
Always makes me cry, no matter what language they sing it in. Oh, Dvorak!
This is an absolutely perfect blend of cultures, feeling and music.
My aunt heard this on the radio a few days before my uncle's funeral. She had it played during the service. It was very moving. Very beautiful.

Heart wretching yet at the same time very comforting...

Touched me more this way than ever before. Tears...
I love Abigail Washburn! She's amazing!
What a lovely arrangement. I have never heard it sung but the lyrics fitted beautifully. Thank you for posting this.
I was doing some sewing when this came up in my playlist. I was so captivated by this performance that I had to stop and simply bathe in the sound!

I love the entrance sequence! Is there anyone who could point me a score just like that?
I see how Yo-Yo Ma's jacket was a pain in the ass for the audio engineer.
This was fantastic but where are the captions? I would like to read what they were saying too…

Dvorak, New World Symphonie
❤️ 🌎 🙋♀️ 🌹
It sounds a lot like symphony no. 9 by Dvorak, what am I missing?
I agree. What's missing is giving him credit.
Well, Dvorak was heavily influenced by negro spirituals and native American songs when composing the New World Symphony. "Going Home" is a negro spiritual that pre-dates the New World Symphony.
Is the original song called Dreaming Home and Mother?
@@rcnelson thanks for the info
I would like to see the lyrics in Chinese.

閉上眼聆聽,音樂讓人動容,張開眼細看歌詞,卻一頭霧水,「家門仍在開」不懂這是什麼文法?整個中文詞意似乎只想緊抓原來英文版歌詞,卻弄丟了詩的意境。
