Hey guys, I've got some sad news. A few days ago I had upgraded my dwarf Gourami, Clyde, and the ember tetras to a planted 20 gallon. Clyde was loving all of the extra space, but sadly this morning I found that he had jumped out of his tank and passed away. I was going to make an update care video with him but in light of that I won't be, but I do have some extra insights to share with you through keeping him. Dwarf Gouramis are so much fun. They are adorable and have such awesome personalities. I love how they interact with their feelers. I would also recommend giving them more than the minimum tank size (as I would with all fish) and found that a 20 gallon was really good. Also make sure you block off every tiny hole you can, as it looks like Clyde jumped out in the gap left by a hang on the back filter. If you have a glass panel lid, maybe consider adding some mesh to the gaps. I'm sorry for the sad update but I hope this video and the footage of Clyde continues to educate and inspire you all. Enjoy your dwarf Gouramis! Lots of love 💕
I saw powder blue dwarf Gourami for the first time the other day and fell in love with them. I have been keeping Bettas so the attitude I am used to. I would also like to try the Honey Gourami but have not see them as yet.
I've got a thicklipped gourami (peach gourami) Male. Mine tries to bite my finger if I put it on the glass haha he's a character and I love him. If any of the fish start fighting he'll swim up to them fast and break up the fight then swim and hide 😂 he lives with tetras and endlers guppies. Getting some floating plants for him soon!
Gouramis’ feelers are covered with taste buds, rather like the barbels and skin of catfish. So they use their feelers to investigate their environment.
Owner of the same breed: striped dwarft gourami from last week and i love him. He is the center piece in my community tank. I tried to feed him brine shrimp, he is unable to see them before tetras finish them 😂 but anyways I feed hikari micro pallets as well, he eat them well 😊
Just got into these lil gems! MIN10gal!!!!!! I got mine in a 40gal with a bunch of fish that didn’t fit other builds n a German ram, but yo I disagree their not timid at all I play with my boy my waking him up flicking his tail he loves it it’s a game for him he knows he’s getting some food when he gets woke up , I have mine next to my bed he won’t go to sleep unless I’m laying next to him he’s jelly of chicks coming round ,, but he’s so personable he won’t leave me alone when I’m around it’s funny.. their angry with other fish but they are tank bosses …. Don’t jump into these without doing some serious research but…. Thanks for vid:)
Cool video and fish! I just got a neon blue who looks and acts much like yours. Auburn spent the first two days racing back and forth on the back of the tank but since then has calmed down. He isn't as brave as my betta (who's in another 10 gallon) but he is as inquisitive as her and he's learning to come up when I open the lid since that may mean FOOD! He's definitely fun to watch in my heavily planted tank. Lives with 4 false julii corys and a few ghost shrimp.
I wonder if I can put a Dwarf and a Honey Gourami together in a 29 gallon community tank? And maybe a tiny sparkling gourami too. They all have such funny expressions and personalities.
I have a male Dwarf Gourami in my 65g community. I recently treated for ich on Clown Loaches and Black Neon Tetras, using g high heat and garlic. Towards the end of treatment, the Gourami had a sudden loss of appetite at feeding time. He never exhibited any sign of ich. He hunts and forages normally, and is always pooping big long strings longer than he is. This morning, he showed a somewhat increased interest in frozen Bloodworms, but went wild over live Daphnia. He'll even turn his nose up at live Blackworms. Just did 25% water change. Day IV out of treatment Temp down from 88°F during treatment to 82.6 post treatment. Lowered temp 2° a day. Any idea what's going on with my Gourami? My female in another tank is as fit as a fiddle.
Hmm that's so strange... I've noticed that sometimes fish just randomly change appetites, as to what food they enjoy and what they don't, so it could be as simple as that. If the poo is white or clear I'd suggest he has parasites, but if not it's either normal or he's a little constipated. I would monitor him for now, as well as the other inhabitants. As long as he's eating something, even if he's being picky about it, I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. I once had a wild female Betta that refused to eat anything but live blackworms. With the circumstances of the tank it's a little suspicious, but nothing is sticking out to me right now so I'd just continue to offer him frozen bloodworms and live daphnia. I hope that helps! Good luck! 💕
By the way I LOVE that thump noise that make …. My boy makes it constantly when he’s hungry once I feed him he stops n goes nuts for 5 mins then sleeps… they’re really good to get to know personality wise people may have timid ones but yo mine legit chases me around the tank then again he lives 20 cm from my bed. But,,, it’s very easy to piss these fish off so if u having timid Issues maybe they need some time acclimating to humans if that’s what u want, rams are the same they swim hoops through your hands.. but DG’s seem to always end as the owners fave fish due to how weird they are… wonder how close their related to archer fish? Same shape same behaviour I have owned archers and their identical behaviour wise but a Lil more wild..
Cool video! I’m setting up/cycling a 9 gallon fluval flex, thinking of getting one and then like 3-4 ember tetras or other small schooling fish. Will have to add heaps of plants!
Thank you so much! 😊 That sounds awesome! I'd probably get 6 ember tetras at least as they get a bit skiddish in smaller groups (they don't have a large bioload anyway so that would be fine in that tank, I've got around 7 in this 10 gallon) but as long as the dwarf gourami is of good temperament they'll be fine regardless, you just get better schooling in larger numbers. Although if they're comfortable they might not school all the time anyway haha, mine certainly don't! Have you decided on the dwarf gouramis colour yet? 😁 That's just so exciting, I hope it goes really well! 😍💕
@@starkissedvixen Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply. Yes I wasn't sure with my tank size how many I could keep in it but its good to know about them not being too messy! Also when I eventually add fish in around a months time do you think its wise to add all of them at once? or add the tetras first? vise verse with the gouramis? And as for colour, When I was young and got one of my first proper tanks I remember I had a metallic blue one who I named Bluey! So I'd love to get one with a similar colouring to yours, with some cool stripes :)
Not a problem! 😊 I would add the tetras in first so that if your dwarf gourami is more on the aggressive side it won't be territorial towards them (whereas if the tetras are added last, the gourami will think they're invading his territory!) That's what I did anyway haha. Omg that's so awesome! The metallic blue colours they have are so gorgeous! 😍 I was tossing up between getting an all blue one or this guy with the stripes, and I'm so glad I went with the stripes, makes him stand out a bit more and really be the showcase fish of the tank 😄💕
@@starkissedvixen Thanks for the advice...though the more I look at my tank the more I feel as though this wouldn't be enough space for the little guy :( I think I'll be more responsible and just have a school of 6-8 ember tetras. They will have more space to themselves and the bioload will be easier for me to keep up with as I cycle with seachem stability, prime and water changes etc.....
@@starkissedvixen When my lease runs out at the end of this year and we move to a bigger place (more space for more tanks!) I'll probably grab a slightly larger tank for a Gourami :)
they do! People have been known to keep them in pairs successfully. I would recommend having two females, or maybe even one female and one male, but most people advise 1M:2F so you'll have to do some research and see how it goes but it is definitely possible. I hope this helps! xx
I know this video was made 3 years ago, but I'm curious if anyone could answer my question as to much to feel a dwarf gourami when it comes to pellets or flakes? I tried looking online and end up with a lot of different answers
I just got 4 different coloured Dwarf Gourami in my 230L tank :) 50 Rummy nose Tetras 2 Bristlenose Plecos And a Mystery snail called Stefano. 🤗 Thanks for the info on Dwarf Gourami!
@@starkissedvixen Its my first large tank! And Gourami are just too cute! I think all 4 are males of varying ages but the sheer size should keep them behaving 😬😅
I've never tried, but I'd say 16 gallons would be fine for a pair, depending on the males temperament. If you find you have a more aggressive male than usual you might need a bigger tank to allow the female to get a break, but in the typical case, 16 gallons should be good. Hope it goes well! 💕
how come my Dwarf Gourami fight other fish and eat all the food? Is there a way to feed them something that they can eat slowly and leave food for my other fish? Also, why are they attacking my angel fish?
Dwarf Gourami are territorial fish and can be aggressive. It probably sees your angel fish as an intruder or competitor. I'm not sure if there is a food they can eat slowly but I would try feeding at two opposite sides of the tank so that the gourami can't possibly eat all of it at the same time. You can try adding lots of hiding places and plants to break up their line of sight to reduce the aggression, but it's probably worth considering separating the angel fish and Gourami if they're getting attacked. I hope that helps! Good luck! 😊💕
I think I got mine from Petstock or Petbarn. It's an AquaOne Ecostyle 47 I think, and it's nice that everything is inbuilt but I now prefer buying the components separately because it works out much cheaper 😅 but it does look great though! 😊💕
Thanks for an informative video.. i have 2 honey gouramis (yellow and orange) in a 20 gallon with some other peaceful community fish..need ur suggestion whether to add one powdered blue gourami in the same tank ..thanks in advance for your expert advise..
I haven't kept honey gouramis before and so I'm not sure how they respond to dwarfs, but I think it would depend on the genders and dispositions. If they're all females you might be able to do it but I'd do some extra research as I'm not sure sorry 💕
My betta Louie just had his porcelain funeral. Had him for 2.5 years... Looking to get a blue powdered gourami now...and I guess a bigger tank than 5 gal
@@starkissedvixen won't lie, got a little teary eyed. Wasn't a thing when his danio and tetra mates died...but Louie had personality...and he suffered a bit towards the end
Good evening ... Thank you for the lovely information ... I just got 6 of them in a 55 gallon tank along with neon tetras, guppies, platies and swords ❤️🤍 ... They are stunning little creatures that i would like them to get bigger and prettier after they settle down
Hi Michelle with the neon gourami like yours are you not aloud to feed them the typical goldfish flakes what I feed my platys what I will put mine with soon 👍
I find they get bloated too quickly with flakes and prefer using pellets for this reason among others, but you can still feed them flakes if you want. I hope this helps! 😊💕
Aww thank you so much! All fish seem to benefit from live plants so I would recommend them. I prefer a more sandy or finer gravel substrate, but as long as it's not a size that could get stuck in their mouth it should be okay as they do tend to scavenge the ground a little, so you could either go fine or thicker. I hope that helps! 😊💕
I had 2 powdered gouramis and one of them passed away they got along and now the other fish won't eat should I get another fish. Another thing is that my gourami would not eat or get air before he died what should I do if this happens again?
I'm not sure about the getting air part but not eating is a big sign in any fish species that something is wrong. I would probably check your water params and keep an eye out for any signs of disease before considering it being loneliness as it's likely that something has spread from one gourami to the other and you want to avoid exposing another fish to the same. I hope this helps! Good luck! 😊💕
I am setting up a tropical tank and I love this fish. I have a 52L tank. Do you think I could have 2 female dwaf gourami? And cartenial tetra or neon + corydora or brittlemose?
Might be a little on the small side but it should still work. I'd probably choose neons over Cardinals in a tank that size. But be aware that bristlenoses can get very big and can attack other fish if they don't get the food they need. I'd probably give it a miss and stick with corydora or otocinclus if you want catfish, but that being said I have one in a 60 L and he's pretty magnificent. I hope this helps! 😊💕
i have 5 cherry shrimps, 2 butterfly loaches, some cory catfish and guppies in a 16 gallon tank. would i be safe to get one gourami?? i find the gourami so beautiful but i heard that they may eat my shrimps and cherry shrimps are expensive. however i have a planted tank so the shrimps could hide
What a great aquarium! My gourami would eat any cherry shrimp it could find but it varies between each fish, so it depends on if you're willing to risk it or not. Also I've never tried it but the bright colours of the guppies may cause the gourami to be aggressive to them but again this will vary per fish. It might be worth trying it but being willing to return the gourami if it doesn't work out. I hope this helps! 😊💕
Thank you lovely. Mine would eat cherry shrimp so I'd say there's a good chance they'll go after the fry but I haven't kept platy before. They can be territorial but I think they'd be okay with platy as they seem to be fine with tetras and other small fish, assuming they don't mistake their tank mates as other gouramis. I hope that helps! 😊💕
I haven't kept most of those fish before but I've heard mixed results about putting dwarf Gouramis with angels. Sometimes they're aggressive and sometimes they're not. You could try it out but maybe consider having a backup plan if you need to take the gourami back out of the tank. I hope this helps! 😊💕
Right now I have a 2.5 gal tank with 2 neon tetras. When I got them I didn’t know that they were schooling fish. So I’m going to get a 10 gal and get more tetras maybe 5 more and then I wanted another species for a community tank. After a lot of research, I found dwarf Gouramis, and I love them and want them! So would 7 neons tetras and a male and female DG be ok in a 10 gal? Btw this was the best dwarf gourami video I found, and I watched a lot! Thanks in advance
Sorry for the late reply! Your comment was automatically flagged as spam for some strange reason 😅 Thank you so much! It's probably a little crowded for even just a pair (depending on the personality of the gouramis) as most people recommend upwards of 15 gallon for a pair. If you're set on the 10 gallon I'd probably go with one gourami and the neons, but if you can afford a little bigger I'd grab a 20 gallon for that whole stocking list just to be sure. I hope that helps, good luck! 😊💕
@@starkissedvixen lol that is weird but thx for responding! I will probably try for a 20 then, it never hurts to give them more room! Thx for your help!
Hi! I’m back with an update!! So now I have a 20 gallon tank with 6 pepper corys, 8 neon tetras and of course 2 female neon blue gouramis!!! They are so happy 😁 I’m sooo sad to hear about Clyde tho... I hope u and the tetras are ok 🙃
Bristlenose plecos get fairly big, eat a lot, produce a lot of waste, and can be territorial, so I'm inclined to say stick to one in a 30 gallon. The others I can't really comment on as I haven't kept them, but there are plenty of forums to check out for answers and www.aqadvisor.com/ is very useful for getting an idea of whether your tank and stocking will work. I hope that helps! 😊💕
Yeah that should work depending on the community fish, seems to work better when they're smaller than the dwarf Gouramis but that's just from my observations and should work regardless as long as the other fish are not aggressive 😊💕
I'm sorry to hear that. I mainly don't recommend it because dwarf Gouramis can be territorial and require a decent amount of space to themselves. You might be able to get away with it with two females, but probably not if any males are involved, but of course you can still try. Would you consider doing a single gourami or upgrading to a 20 gallon? Anyway I hope that helps! 😊💕
@@starkissedvixen totally hear ya! i'll most likely just get one dwarf and some tetras perhaps! my tank with my one betta seemed rather empty cause he was so tiny hahaha
You can certainly try, the results will probably differ per case, but mine has let one of five cherry shrimp survive long term in his tank haha, I hope that helps 😊💕
Mine was always timid unless he knew he was being fed 😂 but don't worry she'll definitely come out of the cave soon when she realises you are the bringer of food. It took about a week or two for mine to be visible in the tank 💕
Not sure how many you could fit in a 55g but you could add some females (of different colours too) but you'll probably need to rearrange the tank a little so they don't get territorial, same goes for other similar fish. You can also go for a small schooling fish or some bottom dwellers like Cory's if you're not looking for more centerpiece fish. I hope that helps! 😊💕
From memory it is but you might want to double check the tank size requirements. Honey gouramis might be slightly bigger but I don't recall. It is safe to hand feed them but it might take some time to get them comfortable with that. I hope that helps! 😊💕
Im getting a Dwarf Gourami pair in 2 weeks. So by then, I need to get rid of my african cichlids from my 66 gallon cause they'll go nippy nip with the gouramis. I also have 2 Kois in there which Ill be rehoming in a few months. I will have 4 Tiger Barbs, 2 Common Plecos, 1 Brown Roofed Turtle and 1 Black Ghost Knifefish in there with the Gouramis. Its a growout tank for the plecos and the knife. Once the Kois are gone too in the coming months then ill add the invertibrate army in there. Ramshorns, apples, bladders, malaysian trumpet snails and ghost shrimp. They'll be tankmates, cleanup crew and potential protein source for the Knifefish.
Sounds like a plan! I've heard of tiger barbs being too aggressive with dwarf gourami to the point of killing them so just be sure to research the compatibility of all of the fish before adding them to the tank. I haven't kept most of those creatures before so I can't comment from personal experience though. Anyway that sounds very exciting! Good luck! 😊💕
@@starkissedvixen yea, the Barbs are nippy. But the cichlids are much more deadly than the barbs. The 66 gallon has enough open space and hiding spots for the gouramis to feel safe. The barbs will only harass other fish if the barbs themselves are in smaller numbers. If they have more friends, they'll just chase the other barbs and not other fish. So im planning to getting atleast 2 other tigers as well. Dont want to overcrowd it. The rest will be fine though. The turtle just keeps to himself and is only interested in live plants. The knifefish hides all day. The plecos are just.... plecos. Thanks for the heads up though on the barbs. On a side note, I wanted to ask if these gouramis are okay with heavy filtration? Since they're all air breathers and all. The 66 gallon has a powerhead and provides pretty heavy flow.
I'm glad you've looked into it and know your fish so well! Sounds like such an interesting tank! Hmm I haven't thought about filtration before but they prefer low flow, if you've got areas of the tank with low flow and only minor surface agitation in places then they should be okay
@@starkissedvixen thank you for getting back to me yet again. I appreciate all the feedback I can get on this step Ill see to it if there are areas with low flow. I can make something happen for that. Also, In the initial months, there will be no live plants in the tank. Is that okay? Im just deciding to weather build a small pond for the two small koi i have in the tank or to give them away. As long as the cichlids and koi are in there, no plant shall see the light of day. Im also on a driftwood hunt to make things a little safer for the gouramis.
Bit of an old video so don't quote me on this but I believe it was a 2mm "diamond" black substrate, not sure on the brand, the diamond wording was due to the shine and might help you find it as it was on the packet 💕
Really nice video, I think you have underestimated the size a little bit though, most of my male dwarfs are around 4 inches, I'd be interested to know what size this fish is today? Your tank looks very clean and healthy so Im sure if this fish is a bit bigger then you expected it is in very safe hands!
Thank you so much! That's very surprising, mine is still about the same size, probably about 5 cm long but I haven't checked properly. I wonder if there's different subspecies or something 🤔💕
Gouramis can be rather aggressive so if you had the means to do so I would move the dwarf gourami to a different tank, but if that's not within your means and you can't give either of the Gouramis a new home then I would add heaps of plants and make sure there's plenty of hiding spaces for the dwarf gourami, but they'll still be stressed and will still get chased, really sorry, it's not a good situation 😣 I hope it all works out though! 💕
Dwarf Gouramis are a labyrinth fish so they can breath from air (using a labyrinth origin) and water. But this doesn't mean they can live out of water, it just means they need access to the water surface to survive. I hope that helps! 😊💕
@@Lamvesp that's so amazing! Yeah if fish are breeding in your tank then the conditions are great and they're healthy and comfortable. Nicely done!! Thanks for the update! 😊💕
You can keep multiple dwarf Gouramis together but they can show aggression, particularly the males. A single or a pair of Gouramis is a safe bet, but otherwise keep more females than males and make sure there's plenty of hiding spots! Don't overstock either, they can be pretty territorial. Hope that helps! Good luck! 😊💕
Thank you so much! It'll probably depend on the individual gourami. I trialed 5 in this tank and only one survived, although that one shrimp did hang around for months after that. They're a bit like bettas in this respect, they might eat them, they might not. Sorry that I couldn't give a concrete answer but I hope that helps anyway! ☺️💕
@@starkissedvixen Thank you for your prompt reply. I am pretty sure that I am going to get a Gourami, I have trumpet snails that are ruing my ten gallon tank, and I have read that a gourami will eat them. I just loved your video, so many are kind of annoying, they talk and talk forever, but your video was most pleasant to watch. I even got to hear a bird chirping in the back ground. If you want, I will write you back and tell you what happens.
@@starkissedvixen I just got my new Gourami today, I was wanting a powder blue, but I got tired of waiting on the only fish store around where I live to have one. I got the same color type as what you have in your video, I had a powder blue years ago, and I like the red-ish stripes this type has. The lights are off in the aquarium for now, 'till he gets used to his new home.
@@144928 that's so exciting! My local fish stores only sell powder blue and it took me forever to find this guy so that's pretty interesting. I hope he enjoys his new home! 😊💕
Yeah they can be aggressive, particularly with other gouramis or Bettas of similar or smaller sizes. I hope your honey Gouramis are doing well now though! 😊💕
It probably depends on the gender but you can always try it out and remove one of them if it doesn't work. If you're not getting much aggressive behaviour then it's probably okay, as it differs on a case by case basis. Two males, probably not. A pair, maybe. Two females, probably okay. I hope that helps! Good luck! 😊💕
Nice tank! I have a question for you though, my dwarf gourami eats all the food in my community tank. I am scared because when I try to make sure my other fish are eating he eats all of it before the other fish get any. As soon as I approach the tank he swims to the top and waits for me to drop any food. He even will chase the bristlenose pleco away from algae wafers and eat that. He’s gotten a huge belly from this and looks like he’s ready to explode. Should I put him in his own tank or something?
Aww thank you so much! Sounds like he's bloated, I would probably try fasting him for a couple of days to see if it helps with his digestion. I get around that feeding problem with mine by feeding a mixture of sinking and floating pellets, my dwarf gourami gets all of the floating ones but isn't quick enough for the sinking ones which the other fish eat. You could also try feeding at two different ends of the tank simultaneously so he can only get a portion of the food, but he does sound a bit aggressive if he's chasing the bristlenose away so that's up to you on whether you think he'll do better separated. Also you want to see if you can find a way to stop the gourami from eating the algae wafers, I had a Betta that used to pick at them and they would get bloated every time they ate a bit. Maybe try hiding it? The Pleco will be able to find it but the gourami might not. I hope that helps! Good luck! 😊💕
That's really cool to hear! I haven't heard of that happening before, is their aggression just spread out or are they pretty friendly with each other? 💕
@@starkissedvixen they are all pretty friendly with each other. There is one that sometimes gets a little territorial with his piece of driftwood lol, but most of the time they get on well.
Most definitely! Their personalities are so cute in groups! 😍 I started with 5 in a tank with a female Betta but by the stage the dwarf gourami got this tank (with the pygmy's included!) most of them had passed from old age. This last one has also since passed. But they are an awesome fish and although I probably wouldn't keep them again as they're hard to find in my area, they are a spectacular shoaling fish and I'd recommend keeping them in groups of 5 or more 😊💕
@@starkissedvixen I love mine, I currently have 10 and they spawn constantly. although I never had fry grow to adulthood yet but I also don’t do much for the eggs and I think they eat them haha. Anyways, check around they are more popular then they were and I see them everywhere in my area. Congrats on your tank!
Wow, nice video! I got 9 neon tetras, 3 cory ( albino ), 3 glowlight tetras and a small mystery snail. I got a brand new planted tank ( I'm new to this hobby ) and waited for about 2 weeks for my water to cycle ( I couldn't wait anymore ). Even though my tank is only 60 l ( 60×30×30 ) I think there is still room for more fish and I wanted to ask you: Could I add more fish? If yes, what would you suggest: a male betta or gourami fish ( 1 or 2 ). I like both species the same. Thanks in advance!
You probably could, most of those are pretty small, I would advise to get a dwarf gourami as Bettas sometimes get stressed with neons in my experience. Most other gouramis could be too big. You can use www.aqadvisor.com/ to check your stocking capacity. Also grab a test kit if you don't already have one, as it's a new tank I would test the parameters at least once a week to make sure it has physically cycled and that your fish are safe. Testing would also be a good indication as to whether your tank will be okay for another fish, if water changes don't seem to be removing ammonia and nitrite, and nitrate isn't at an acceptable level, wait a while longer and don't add another fish, either your tank hasn't fully cycled or its struggling to keep up with the current fish. I hope that helps! Good luck! 😊💕
@@starkissedvixen Well, I couldn't find any gouramis.. ended up getting a small juvenile kribensis cichlid. I love it. It really is peaceful ( I know it can be aggressive, but only during breeding .. so I keep only one ). I think it's a good choice as the aquarium is heavily planted ( plenty of hiding spots and decorations ) and so far the fish are getting along. What do you think about it? I know a lot of people would say that these species are unpredictable but mine doesn't seem to have any problem ( having its own territory behind my java black stone ).
@@motof3833 they're such beautiful fish! I've never kept them before but it sounds like it's settling in well. If there's any issues with your other fish you'll probably know within the first month, but I'm sure they'll be fine together. Good luck and thank you for the update! 😊💕
Mine took a long time to come out of his shell. Try to interact with them just before feeding them so that they associate you with food. This should help train them to stop being shy :) xx
This one is an Aqua One Ecostyle 47 and from memory I got it from either Petbarn or Petstock but neither seem to stock it anymore 😔 however they seem to have a few similar alternatives 💕
Are they dwarf Gouramis? I'd be inclined to go a max of 3 dwarves to(1 male, 2 female) in a 20 gallon because they can be aggressive, but if it's working for you and it's not too crowded then don't change it haha, but yeah I always prefer to go a bigger tank size than lower because you get to see so many different behaviours when they have more space ☺️💕
@@starkissedvixen thank you... Well, it is actually 84liters, a 60cm long Eheim pro aquarium and I do indeed want dwarfs...

Mine too! I just got him yesterday and he comes right up to my fingers the boy is fearless! But that's to be expected when he's a cold blooded killer
This is the best care guide for DGs that ive seen on youtube so far, keep up the great work! Also got my first female dwarf guorami today :)
Aww thank you so much!! Omg that's so exciting! I hope you really enjoy keeping her! 😍💕
I saw powder blue dwarf Gourami for the first time the other day and fell in love with them. I have been keeping Bettas so the attitude I am used to. I would also like to try the Honey Gourami but have not see them as yet.
Your comments about the fish expression is awesome and funny 😆
Love the Dwarf Gouramis too. I believe they are are on the hardy side in general but like most living creatures are very unpredictable!
Very true!! 😊💕

I have a powder blue dwarf. He's my heart. He follows me, watches me and poses for the camera. He's quite adorable 😍😍😍😍
Beautiful fish. I have flame and powder blue gouramis in my tank 🩵
Getting powder blue dwarf gouramis for a planted 37g tomorrow. Been cycling a brand new tank for 3 weeks in anticipation for them!
That's so exciting!!! I'm sure you'll love them!
Don't understand why this sweet video don't have more views. Keep up the good work

Thank you, I am thinking about getting one for my 15 gallon, but I didn’t know if they would be good, now I know my tank is just fine for them
I'm glad the video helped! 😊💕
Gouramis’ feelers are covered with taste buds, rather like the barbels and skin of catfish. So they use their feelers to investigate their environment.
Owner of the same breed: striped dwarft gourami from last week and i love him. He is the center piece in my community tank.
I tried to feed him brine shrimp, he is unable to see them before tetras finish them 😂 but anyways I feed hikari micro pallets as well, he eat them well 😊
Thank you! Very informative and straight forward. I think you just sold me a dwarf neon blue gourami 😄🐟
😂 thank you so much! That's certainly a massive compliment! 😊💕

That's awesome to hear! Really depends on the individual fish but that's great to hear that yours isn't timid 💕
That sounds so wonderful! They're such inquisitive little guys, I'm so glad you're enjoying him! 😍💕
Thanks alot just found this but it helped alot I definitely will get one for my empty planted tank👍
Thank you so much! I'm glad it helped! 🥰💕
Do you think they would be good in a 10 gallon with 6 tuxedo guppies?
Nice, this is the kind of video I've been looking for. Thanks.
Thank you so much! I'm glad it helped! 😊💕
Nice Video!
Thank you, setting up my first tank
I wonder if I can put a Dwarf and a Honey Gourami together in a 29 gallon community tank?
And maybe a tiny sparkling gourami too. They all have such funny expressions and personalities.
Dwarf gourami is one of my fav alongside threadfin rainbowfish 😆 they are so cool and beautiful! ~
Yasss! Omg threadfin rainbow fish are absolutely gorgeous! 😍💕
Nice aquascaping. 🙂
Day IV out of treatment
Temp down from 88°F during treatment to 82.6 post treatment.
Good luck! 💕

Thanx
I've noticed they have similar care guides to bettas! Do you think if you had a big enough tank you could keep two docile ones together?
My Dwarf Gourami’s name is blue and he’s the most chill fish ever, he likes to come up to the front of the tank when I’m standing there.😂
I love it!! What a cute name! 😍 Mines either curious or he puts his feelers up and backs away slowly 😂💕
Ay mines is named blue too! Very original am I right
I named mine herbie. Do you hand feed them?
I just got 4 different coloured Dwarf Gourami in my 230L tank :)
50 Rummy nose Tetras
2 Bristlenose Plecos
And a Mystery snail called Stefano. 🤗
Thanks for the info on Dwarf Gourami!
Aww thank you lovely! That sounds so awesome! 😊💕
@@starkissedvixen Its my first large tank! And Gourami are just too cute!
I think all 4 are males of varying ages but the sheer size should keep them behaving 😬😅
In terms of space, would a pair fit in a 16 gallon aquarium?
Good luck! 😊💕
Where did you get your tank? I made the mistake of buying a gourami with my 5 gallon tank and the one you got is so cool.
I'm so sorry for your loss 💕 yeah best to upgrade the tank for a gourami, but that would be a lovely new addition 😊💕
@@starkissedvixen thanks a lot 👌
Would you suggest live plants? What do you use for the base, could it be more rocky or should it be sandy? This video was so so so helpful!
I have 4 in a 29 gallon and they're so friendly!
@@starkissedvixen thanks for taking the tinme to answer me :-) have a good day!! ❤
Sorry to hear about Clyde. Do you know if they will eat platy fry? Will they get along with platy adults?
Thank you lovely. Mine would eat cherry shrimp so I'd say there's a good chance they'll go after the fry but I haven't kept platy before. They can be territorial but I think they'd be okay with platy as they seem to be fine with tetras and other small fish, assuming they don't mistake their tank mates as other gouramis. I hope that helps! 😊💕
Thanks
Should I put one in a 75 g tank with 2 angels fish, a red tailed shark and glow tetras?

So now I have a 20 gallon tank with 6 pepper corys, 8 neon tetras and of course 2 female neon blue gouramis!!! They are so happy 😁
I’m sooo sad to hear about Clyde tho... I hope u and the tetras are ok 🙃
@@lko6453 thank you so much lovely, that sounds like an amazing tank! Congratulations! 😊💕
Do you think that a 30 gallon is big enough for 2 honey gouramis, 9 harlequin rasboras and 3 bristlenose plecos?
Bristlenose plecos get fairly big, eat a lot, produce a lot of waste, and can be territorial, so I'm inclined to say stick to one in a 30 gallon. The others I can't really comment on as I haven't kept them, but there are plenty of forums to check out for answers and www.aqadvisor.com/ is very useful for getting an idea of whether your tank and stocking will work. I hope that helps! 😊💕
Michelle Keane thanks!
Can you just keep them alone or do they have to have a tank mate
They can be kept alone 😊💕
would you recommend me getting 1 male DG or 2 female DG with a couple community fish for. 20 gallon
Yeah that should work depending on the community fish, seems to work better when they're smaller than the dwarf Gouramis but that's just from my observations and should work regardless as long as the other fish are not aggressive 😊💕
so my betta sadly died, and i’m thinking of getting 2 dwarf gouramis for my 10 gallon. ik in the video you don’t recommend that but can i ask why?
I'm sorry to hear that. I mainly don't recommend it because dwarf Gouramis can be territorial and require a decent amount of space to themselves. You might be able to get away with it with two females, but probably not if any males are involved, but of course you can still try. Would you consider doing a single gourami or upgrading to a 20 gallon? Anyway I hope that helps! 😊💕

No, it will not survive in a tank with tiger barbs of any age, even juvenile ones have been known to kill dwarf gouramis

@@starkissedvixen thank you so much🥰
I have two flame gourami males in 55g they are fine. But I’m looking for something else I can put with them
Not sure how many you could fit in a 55g but you could add some females (of different colours too) but you'll probably need to rearrange the tank a little so they don't get territorial, same goes for other similar fish. You can also go for a small schooling fish or some bottom dwellers like Cory's if you're not looking for more centerpiece fish. I hope that helps! 😊💕
Is this the same for honey dwarf gourami? And is it safe to hand feed them?
From memory it is but you might want to double check the tank size requirements. Honey gouramis might be slightly bigger but I don't recall. It is safe to hand feed them but it might take some time to get them comfortable with that. I hope that helps! 😊💕
Thank you very much, sorry about the lost gourami also.
I appreciate all the feedback I can get on this step
Ill see to it if there are areas with low flow.
They seem to prefer having plants but as long as your water quality is good and there's a few hiding spaces they should be good 💕
What substrate do you have?
Bit of an old video so don't quote me on this but I believe it was a 2mm "diamond" black substrate, not sure on the brand, the diamond wording was due to the shine and might help you find it as it was on the packet 💕
Would 3 Dwarf Gouramis (2 female 1 male) be good for a 35gallon tank?
That should work well! Good luck! 😊💕
@@starkissedvixen Thanksss

That's awesome! What genders are they? I find having 3 females or 1 male 2 females would really help in that case. Thanks for sharing! 😊💕
I wonder if there's different subspecies or something 🤔💕
awesome vid, thank you!
Thank you so much! 😊💕
My dwarf gourami sometimes gets chased by my bigger gouramis and idk what to do
Gouramis can be rather aggressive so if you had the means to do so I would move the dwarf gourami to a different tank, but if that's not within your means and you can't give either of the Gouramis a new home then I would add heaps of plants and make sure there's plenty of hiding spaces for the dwarf gourami, but they'll still be stressed and will still get chased, really sorry, it's not a good situation 😣 I hope it all works out though! 💕
Heya michelle, just bought some dwarfs, can I ask you what was that about how they can breath?
Thanks 🙂
Dwarf Gouramis are a labyrinth fish so they can breath from air (using a labyrinth origin) and water. But this doesn't mean they can live out of water, it just means they need access to the water surface to survive. I hope that helps! 😊💕

Can you get multiple gouramis, I have a 60 gallon tank with 12 buenos aires tetras and I'm planning to get a few corydoras.
You can keep multiple dwarf Gouramis together but they can show aggression, particularly the males. A single or a pair of Gouramis is a safe bet, but otherwise keep more females than males and make sure there's plenty of hiding spots! Don't overstock either, they can be pretty territorial. Wonderful video, well done. Can you keep a Gourami with Shrimp?
Thank you so much! It'll probably depend on the individual gourami. I trialed 5 in this tank and only one survived, although that one shrimp did hang around for months after that. Yeah they can be aggressive, particularly with other gouramis or Bettas of similar or smaller sizes. I hope your honey Gouramis are doing well now though! 😊💕
thank you, I will go for them
i have a 15 gallon for 2 is that okay...?
His belly is like twice the size of yours. It does not look healthy.
Good luck! 😊💕
Hi Michelle I'm Andre from Connecticut I have 2 dwarf gouramis m and f with blk skirt tetras 4 I have a 20 gallon
Great content
Thank you so much! 😊💕
I have 7 of these all male, all get on great.
Maybe change the batteries in your fire alarm...I just spent the last half hour trying to figure what's beeping around my house
You should have more than 1 Pygmy Cory. They like groups, hey it’s an excuse to get 3-4 more ☺️ plus you will shed their personality come out more.
Whats better male or female
Depends on the circumstances! Males are typically more colourful, but females are less aggressive 😊💕
I'm gonna get a dwarf gourami a female and a male in a few days!
That's so exciting!!! I hope you enjoy them! 😊💕
I just bought one.
That's so awesome! I hope you enjoy keeping them! 😊💕
Good luck! 😊💕
@@starkissedvixen Thanks a lot for the information ! I appreciate you!
I like your smartwatch, Samsung?
Haha thanks, yes it is! 😊💕
😘😘😘😘😘
😊💕
I ❤ u 😊
mines is so shy why?!
Mine took a long time to come out of his shell. Try to interact with them just before feeding them so that they associate you with food. This should help train them to stop being shy :) xx
@@starkissedvixen Oh okay thank you
Where did you get your tank?
This one is an Aqua One Ecostyle 47 and from memory I got it from either Petbarn or Petstock but neither seem to stock it anymore 😔 however they seem to have a few similar alternatives 💕
I just bought 2 they told me it was a male and female I have them in there with platties
Nice! That should be okay, just monitor all of your fish for stress in case of aggression. Sounds lovely though! 😊💕
Everyone tells me that my 20gallon isn't enough for only 4x Gourami fishes...
But today I saw a few red dwarf Gourami 's as well as Yellow ones and the regular blue/reddish zebra ones at an aquarium store and I can't choose between red or zebra, so want 3x of them, one of each and so, yes mâle ! 😜 Ugh... Going to be a tough pick
